2024 AIG Women's Open (Aug 22 - 25)

My field rating for this event is 84.5%, the same as it was last year.
My breakdown is 82% from the LPGA Priority List and 87% from the Rolex World Rankings.
This is one of the very rare times that the Rolex Ranking is higher than the Priority List. The reason is that the Priority List rating is lowered because there are fewer players from the LPGA teeing it up because they share this event with the LET.
The Rolex Ranking is much higher because there are many top ranked players from other tours teeing it up.
All of the top 30 players in the world will be teeing it up, and 46 of the top 50.

Other Stuff:
Ally Ewing missed the cut last week for the first time this year, putting an end to her cut streak at twenty-two.
Lauren Coughlin becomes the third multi-winner on tour this year. She joins Nelly Korda (6 wins) and Hanna Green (2 wins).
It has been an amazing year for USA players as Coughlin's victory was their eleventh this year. Thailand is second with four victories, no other country has more than two. The LPGA has played twenty-two tournaments this year, and USA players have won half of them. 
Ayaka Furue registered her tenth top ten in Scotland last weekend, no other player has more than eight.
The Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year race has gotten even tighter than last week. Mao saigo has a very narrow lead with 518 points. Gabriela Ruffles finished in sixth place in Scotland raising her second place total to 484 points. Jin Hee Im (452), Nataliya Guseva (279), and So Mi Lee (256), round out the top five.

Rolex Rankings Movement:
Jin Young Ko moves up a spot to Number three this week, as Amy Yang drops a spot to fourth place.
Once again it was Lauren Coughlin who makes the most important move, leaping up from 26 to 14.
Esther Henseleit continues her meteoric rise, vaulting up from 42 to 29.
Gabriela Ruffles jumps from 46 to 41.
Sarah Schmelzel climbs from 71 to 64.
Outside of the top 100, Lucy Li hurdles up from 142 to 122.

In the all-important Race to the CME Globe, where finishing in the top 100 is a must to keep playing regularly next season:
Esther Henseleit wrapped up her 2025 playing card as she hurdles all the way up from 53 to 25.
The following players still have work to be done, but improved their chances:
Caroline Inglis 98 to 91, Mary Liu 97 to 92, Savannah Grewal 100-93, Haeji Kang 102-94.

I don't know how often, if ever, they replace the Old Course Hotel sign on the Road Hole, but one of my buddies put a nice mark on it with his tee shot when we played there the week before they closed the course to complete prep for the '22 Open Championship.   🤣

I didn't realize that KLPGA players face suspension if they tee it up here this week due to there being a KLPGA major this week. They keep a very tight grip on their members.

Won't post the vid you can find it if you must. Think the LPGA might be the only league that could ask their players this question and be confident they would get decent answers. Can't see the PGA doing it and good lord don't ask the NFL!! 😂😅

looking at Thursdays afternoon group and reading backwards from the final pairing looking for someone decent with a 7am Friday tee time … I scrolled past maybe 30 girls until I found what I consider a strong contender (HJ Choi with perhaps apologies to Jiyai a group or two earlier )

 

The betting  market is interesting . Normally we see a couple of girls like Nelly in single figures 7-1 ish. But she and furue are more like 15-1. QueenJIN is now 3rd (smashed in from 21-1 to 17-1 on my local)

 

good sign that this thing is open when the bookies have no clue

Urrrrgh this is pretty gross. I love the Koreans but they can be a hyper nationalistic at times

So the "smart money" looks at tee-times and the wind/weather forecast timings. Makes sense to me!

 

(i'm guessing/betting even the  bookmakers provide a differentiated level of service/ tips i.e. basic info for the freebies / google-search

Ahhh, well I have sampled the local gin in the old course hotel yesterday, some could be making it back with me..   🫢.   Well I've just woken up and it's blowing an absolute hooley! This is gonna be carnage.. 10th tee start is bit annoying, but I get the idea.

@Jonnyuk74 Are you lucky enough to have Iona Stephen on-site at St Andrews this year,

@Argonne69 mentioned the KLPGA suspension ... but didn't realise the extent/ how punitive! (i.e. "10 event suspension"... and maybe additional 100(!!) million KRW penalty <== approx USD 75k).

Can anyone tell me how to watch this in the UK apart from Sky sports?

 

The Scottish Open had good coverage on YouTube but I haven't seen anything come up yet. 

 

The BBC has radio coverage...... radio?????  Worse than checking the LPGA website.

I think Sky Sports is the only way to watch it. I doubt they will put this on the YouTube channel. In terms of women's golf on Sky this is their no.1 event so I doubt they will have it on anywhere for free. Surprised they haven't done featured groups/early coverage and put that on YouTube.

Bummer. I'm not interested in any of the other Sky Sports stuff. There will probably be highlights at the end of the day on Youtube, maybe the BBC but after their "economical" Olympics coverage (almost no field events) don't hold your breath.

Now TV is an option. I think they do short term passes, in the past they've done passes for specific events such as Ryder Cup. I watch a lot of golf (almost everything that is on Sky) so I'm happy to pony up for Sky Sports but I don't like them as an organisation.
