Still can't believe Lyds has won twice in three weeks on courses that punish poor driving. Lydia has the best short game in golf, but she isn't particularly known for her driving accuracy. Lol. At the end of the day she played nearly mistake free golf with only one bogie today, and one yesterday. She kept her cool.

She never hit it left unless she needed to.

The Japanese language has 3 alphabets. One for phonetic, one is kanji and the other it katakana which is phonetic but for non Japanese words.

@Argonne69 On the "Big Pickle" podcast ... Grant Boone mentioned that "In Gee Chun is taking some time off, to re-charge".

(circa timestamp ~34mins i.e. approx 1m30s from end-of-podcast)

... Any insights on this? Presumably InGee didn't qualify for this week's The Open at St Andrews i.e. hard to believe anyone who had qualified would skip this event?

Thanks Jimbo, I'm pleased to confirm to our North American colleagues that the world feed was continuous, ad-free, filler-free with no chipmunk chatter.

Pure bliss.

Surely Christina Kim = half a chipmunk? (albeit toned-down / with a modicum of restraint, in the presence of Dame Laura Davies, Richard Kaufman, et al) ... we did learn some cockney rhyming slang via Christina Kim e.g. "Ruby Murray for a curry".

I am quite impressed with Christina, I find her enjoyable with a nice mix of relevant content and humor; teamed well with the others on the coverage.

The chipmunk (high-pitched, shrill) chatter (word volume) needs to get to a certain level before it becomes uncomfortable for me eg Morgan's there currently.

Christina is well short of that for me, plus the world feed had lots of rotation of the commentators to keep things fresher.

I wonder how much money that last missed putt by Vu cost her. At least $200k, I’d guess

Per a golf.com article it cost Lilia $344,267

Splitting the winnings with three other players proved incredibly costly for Vu. Her new paycheck was worth $594,759. Which means that the final-hole lip-out cost her a whopping $344,267.

To put it in perspective, the amount of money Vu lost was about $25,000 more than the next player on the leaderboard, Ariya Jutanugarn, earned for her solo-sixth finish ($319,336).

won over  6 million  in career earnings,so to her it  obviously means nothing, once she came up short with putt to tie the lead, lost concentration and hit. par putt way to hard.

Good job these players dont live in the real-world where putts missed could  mean you can  feed the kids for a week or not.

Imagine them dealing with that sort of pressure when you look how bad a lot of them performed on the greens yesterday.

Really? Unless you are her personal financial advisor you (or anybody else) have zero idea what that missed putt and money meant to her personally and professionally regardless of her past professional winnings. To claim otherwise is disingenuous and complete speculation on your part.

one thing for sure... it meant Lilia Vu will need to wait until she wins again, before "Walton the cat" gets a new sibling! (if she sticks with her Dad's incentive i.e. "win a major, get a 2nd cat" promise).

explain why she rushed the putt and over-hit it ,wasnt even on the correct line.

6 million in career earnings is she crying because she threw away over 300k doesnt look like it,does it!

Top sports people, dont live in the real-world,about time you realised that!

Alexa Pano’s caddie is her father.  It always looks like he’s about to collapse from the strain of caddying

he was really struggling, almost didn't make it up the 5 foot hill to the 15th tee, then lagged behind all the way up the fairway.

Lydia's body language and demeanor was a step above the rest coming down that back 9. She seemed really comfortable and relaxed whilst still being in the zone. Quite impressive.

she went and peed after 16, they had to wait to her to hit, she was just smiling away not looking flustered at all!

I cannot imagine playing any kind of golf in that weather all week.  Congrats to Lydia for hanging tough & getting the win.  And....I don't think Morgan Pressel could get any more annoying.

its a shock when you get a day with no wind!

Last week was cold and windy this week its warmer and still windy - I am playing Tuesday at 1230.

Good, enjoy the day @scott_Donald ... presumably the silver-lining of this wind forecast =  an opportunity/challenge, for you to experience same/similar playing conditions and a "proper links weather test"  / blowing a hooley.

I play Royal Aberdeen every Tuesday afternoon and for the last 6 weeks its been a 3-4 club wind into on the back nine, I would love no wind or even a cross wind for a change!

FUNNY: Hideki Matsuyama Teaches Tiger, Rory, and Jason Day Japanese

Yes, much of the Japanese golfing vocabulary is English, with a few homegrown expressions thrown in. The weirdest one for me is "Naisu bogii (nice bogey!)" Complimenting someone for dropping a shot is just...odd.

As for "sit", I've heard it used on the course, with the correct accent as well. For Japanese speakers, "si" usually comes out as "shi" so "please, sit down" can come out sounding completely different. Another one I hear occasionally is "bite", again said with the correct accent and not "baito" as it would normally be pronounced in Japanese.

An interesting golfing term here is "Arison bankaa (Alison Bunker)", which comes from C.H. Alison, an English golfer who redesigned or renovated Kasumigaseki's East Course (used for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics).

As far as I can make out, an "Alison Bunker" refers to deep bunker, especially one with a deep, built up face.

Yesssssss LYDIA!!

SHIP DAT MANEY. $ 🤑

Finally caught up with the recorded coverage . What a champion that girl is . Her approach with a hybrid into the road hole on driving rain and wind. So sick

Man… Mondays down under is exhausting trying to avoid results .

-Can’t let the radio in vehicle go on

-can’t read any internet /social media whatsoever

-have to avoid friends /associates / golf lovers

Today was extra challenging. I pop into a shop for a cold drink at lunchtime . Grab it from the fridge and wander up to the counter to pay and realise the shop has the radio playing AND THE FKN SPORTS NEWS IS ON.

Lady behind the counter who is likely expecting a standard casual /polite greeting and eftpos card wave …..instead sees me with my eftpos card in one hand pointing to the radio with the other, looking totally pissed off and yelling LALALALALALALA !!!!

I think she literally stepped back …before perhaps cottoning on to the problem and quickly programming the machine. (Or maybe she just wanted to get me the hell out of her shop)

anyway it was all worth it in the end. From seeing Korda blow up on the par 5 and mutter “I can’t fkn believe it” as she walked off …to Vu making a meal of her second on 18 then leaving it short THEN missing a 2 footer to punt off $300k hahaha so good. Go buy yourself a cat BOOK Lillia

I LOVE anti railing my personal villains (actually I don’t mind Nelly but anyone standing in the way of my hero is technically a villain)

what a great tournament , the DP event was good too. Both blew the fedex cup out of the water for watchability

Road Hole (17th) 2nd shot = "5 wood"? or 3 wood? (Doesn't look like a hybrid... to me).

Hi @pga43 @knudson81 : Any chance of a fresh "WITB" for Lydia Ko?

Albeit still finding your Walmart Arkansas LPGA WITB compilations (circa late-Sept 2023) = a handy resource!

Yeah it looked like a 3 wood to me too but commentary team called it a hybrid . Personally I’m not much interested in what equipment they use , only what I use …I honestly dgaf about WiTB.

I just presumed commentary are WiTB nerds and had it right

Edit. Might of been 16 too. Not sure. I’ll get a rewatch in later

The TV broadcast pundits/ commentary team = also human and make mistakes too!

e.g. i heard that Morgan Pressel (allegedly) mistook Jiyai Shin for Ha Na Jang, w.r.t. the "Beyonce Dance" after winning the HSBC WWC in Singapore...  on this week's NBC broadcast?

(hearsay, i admit... due to me watching via the "World Feed";  and wasn't watching via Peacock/NBC)

I can't believe Nelly said she lost the tournament because she theoretically messed up. Theoretically that could be the excuse for every one of the other 143 players in the field that did not win!

How about just give Lyd's some credit for outplaying her despite her clear advantage on a few holes due to her extra length off the tee!

In all fairness though I imagine she is in no mood to do interviews...probably in much the same headspace as Lilia trying to putt out on 18 after coming up short...

How about leaving the xenophobia at the door?

Her quickie interview was before Lydia had even won the event and right after she walked off the course.  And nothing she said was unreasonable - pretty candid.
