2024 NFL Weekly Picks

Gentlemen it is that time of year again. Time to get the group back together to talk about a new season of Pro Football and try our luck once again at picking a few games each week. 

 

 

There is no money involved in this. All you can win is bragging rights. You have to follow the rules and meet the deadlines. This is a season long commitment. We make Picks in the Playoffs too once the regular season has concluded. 

 

We will be making 3 picks each week

I will post the Vegas line every Monday morning and we will be using that line to make our picks.

You may pick a side or a total. For example if the line is Tampa -7 vs New Orleans and the total points are 54 you may take Tampa -7 or New Orleans +7 or you could pick Under 54 points in the game or Over 54 points. So every game has 4 different picks that you could select from. 

These are the Point Values. 

A correct pick is worth 5 points.

A tie or push is worth +2 points.

There are Zero points for a loss. 

 

The Power Play

You may make a Power Play ONCE EVERY 4 Weeks ONLY. 

Example: A participant sees a pick that he feels strongly about and decides to designate it his Power Play. 

If his Power Play hits he wins +20 points.

If his Power Play pushes/ties he wins +5 points.

Now if his Power Play loses he LOSES -10 points. 

Once again The Power Play can only be used by a participant once every 4 weeks. Additional details to follow. 

The Power Play is optional, you do not have to use a Power Play. 

 

Make it to the Playoffs BONUS PLAY

To start the season and be in the running for a 5 point bonus for each correct pick please predict the 14 teams that will make the Playoffs at the end of the regular season. The Make the Playoffs Bonus Play Picks must be in before the first kickoff of the 2024 Season with the Raven at the Chiefs Thurs. Sept. 5th. 

 

Do your best to get your picks in by Wednesday afternoon so I am not compiling picks all week long. 

Please once the week is over and you have your results post them in a timely fashion so our statistician NJBig Fish has everyone's most current weekly results for the Standings. 

 

 

This contest will run for the entire Regular Season. 

We will start a new contest specifically for the Playoffs. 

We will be crowning a Regular Season Champion, a Playoffs Champion, and an Overall (Regular season and Playoffs combined ) Champion. 

 

 

The new season is only a few weeks away so I wanted to get the thread started early and make sure all the participants understand how the contest works. If you have any questions post them and either myself of NJBig Fish will answer them. 

 

Remember there is no money involved in this contest.

FINDING "WEEKLY" POSTS

 

Every week the gentlemen running this tournament, touch and NJBigFish22 make posts about the lines for the coming weeks, as well as, the results of the previous week (for player to verify) and current standings.

 

Given all the posts on the thread, these posts can be difficult to find.

 

So, in "official" weekly posts such as the week’s lines, results, whatever, Mr. touch and/or Mr. BIGFISH will type within their posts “WEEKX” where “X” is the week number, followed WITHOUT a space, by “LINES”, “RESULTS”, “STANDINGS” or similar.

 

Why, you ask ?

 

This is so all members of the group can easily find any week’s lines, results, or standings using the board’s search function, rather than scrolling through who knows how many pages to find such things.

NOTE: These instructions are for a desktop browser. For a smartphone, you’re on your own. LOL

BEST/EASIEST WAY - It’s likely, when you want to find these posts, you’re already within this seasons's NFL Picking thread. If not, go there.

 

To find any of these posts, simply go to the upper right-hand corner search box, type WEEKX (X being the week # you’re looking for) into the search box, and either hit “ENTER”, or click on the spyglass. More specifically, you can add the above keywords, W/O a space in between (LINE, RESULTS, STANDINGS). If you ADD a space you will get plenty of results you DON'T want.

As additional clarification on the Power Play, if you make a PP pick in week 1, your next opportunity woukd be week 5.  We will be keeping track of when your power play was used.  For those just joining this year, and for those returning there is a strategy to think about in terms of the PP, although optional, there is a way to get an extra PP over the 17 week season.  
 

Weekly picks, you can change a pick prior to kick off, however we will verify that it was done on time based on your post within the thread. 
 

To echo @touch please remember to meet the deadlines each week, as much as we enjoy doing this fun contest, we don’t want to chase people’s picks or results.

POWER PLAY NOTE - (especially) to new players (last year's players already know this)

 

20 Pts for a win vs 10 points for a loss.

 

Remember, there must be at least 4 weeks between PP picks.

 

So, if you make a PP pick in weeks 1 or 2, you can get up to 5 PP picks in the regular season.

 

i.e. PP pick in weeks 1, 5, 9, 13, 17,,,,,, or 2, 6, 10, 14, 18

 

If you do NOT make a PP pick in weeks 1 or 2, you can only get a MAXIMUM of 4 PP picks for the regular season.

 

i.e. PP pick in weeks 3, 7, 11, 15.

Hello, Participants of the 2024 NFL Picks!

I have to say:

My Playoff picks 

AFC.

1. Chiefs are still best in class I am not going to be a wise a** this year and take the Ravens although they were close.  The man Chris Jones is why the Chiefs won it all with all the other stuff added in.

2. Still the Ravens with King Henry

3 Jets Not a Rodgers fan but Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams are nice targets...and that Defense! Breece Hall is MVP this year! 

4 Texans (might regress some but still make playoffs)

5 Bengals. A Super Bowl QB on that team

6 Colts Anthony Richardson Come On Down! Could be the second coming of Cam Newton in his prime

7 Dolphins squeak out the last spot over the Bills, Jags, Browns, Steelers, Chargers

 

NFC

1. San Francisco might have some issues but still the best overall.

2. The Lions play a lot of games indoors this year. Jameson Williams coming out party

3. Green Bay Packers They get Love and he loves those receivers.

4 Dallas. Cee Dee Lamb MVP candidate, a new deal, and he's bulked up.

5 Eagles...I see an improved Jalen Hurts and a threat to Dallas winning that division

6 Bucs win! Bucs win!... that crappy division. If Cousins is not 100% those NFC South QBs have a lot to be desired. Baker has a healthy Godwin playing in the slot

7 Seahawks open up the offense a little more and snag a wild card
