I'll go ahead and say it.  The 49ers will not win another SB as long as they're playing in Santa Clara.  It was bad enough when the grass range was taken away for Top Golf, but when Santa Clara Golf & Tennis (our city "muni") closed when Levi's Stadium was built, that took the cake for me.  Bad karma.

Ok, so SCG&T wasn't a great course, but it was definitely good enough for me.  So many early morning rounds played there.

How long after building a new stadium does it become outdated and demolished?  The Kingdome in Seattle seemingly had a short lifespan.

Thanks for telling us that imk. I had no idea they got rid of a Muni golf course to make way for Levi Stadium. How terrible. I bet Santa Clara golf and tennis was one of the last affordable courses in the area too correct?

I'd say 20 years ago the answer would be after 30 years, but now I'm thinking that they consider it is time for a new one after 20.  I looked up the Kingdome and it was in existence from 1976 to 2000. Your current stadium is 22 years old.

How many Seahawks games have you attended DMM?

Man, I remember when Camden Yards was built, and it was the future of baseball.

That was 33 years ago ... and they're trying to replace it.

Yes indeed tater it was.

@doctoro and I were coworkers and even roommates for a bit in Northern Virginia when Camden Yards first opened. We would drive up to go to games to see Cal and the O's. It really was a special stadium and the Inner Harbor was a fabulous spot to hang out in either pre or post Orioles games.

Nice research there, LP.  Zero is the answer for attending a Seahawk game.  Though I've been in the stadium for a company event.  T-Mobile Park is pretty cool.  I've been there for baseball.  I never went to the Kingdome... just seemed too depressing, because it had a permanent roof.  Baseball and sun go together.

Camden Yards was my field of dreams. I loved the Orioles my entire life.  I still remember going to Memorial Stadium before Camden Yards was built

My Dad caught a foul ball and I was giddy with excitement

They had bat day and we were there.

The program with the lineups and I kept the score.  Esskay Hot Dogs and Natty Boh. When I was older of course.

Speaking of being of age

I remember driving up to Memorial Stadium before they moved to Camden Yards and stopping at a place called the Stadium Lounge

Typical blue-collar city bar.

They had huge ham sandwiches, Natty Bohs, and 3 dollar shots of Grand Marnier

Needless to say, the game was a bit hazy that day.

One of my favorite bartenders, Julie-Anna attended two Seahawk games this year... her boyfriend has season tickets.  She knows nothing about the game.  Her favorite thing was when the refs signaled "first down".  So now, when I walk into her bar I give that signal, along with the utterance, as I walk through the door.  She returns it to me.  If there's anyone in the bar we get weird looks.  "First down!"

Yes sir. We did Camden Yards, RFK Stadium, and the Capital Center for Rod Langway and his NHL Caps action as well as many rock concerts.

Love it and that reminds me of something.

For some of the Redskins games that I attended my friend who often invited me got the same tickets/seats for us from a season ticket holder. In the row directly in front of our seats were the same two older black men for every game. Obviously they had season tickets also. Without fail when the Redskins had the ball and would get a first down the two of them would stand up and shout " Moooooveee da Chains" while gesturing with their hands the direction the 10 yard chains should move. They rarely missed a First Down call except when they left their seats. It was damn funny.

The number of Washington picks is surprising to me. I actually believe Philly will win and cover easily, but just can’t pick them. Kinda like I suspect most Michigan fans picked Notre Dame. But man, Washington knocking Philly out of the Super Bowl would be sublime!

Buffalo vs KC is a much more difficult pick - a coin toss really. If you just go by this season, I think most would pick Buffalo, but Mahomes has been almost unbeatable in the postseason since Brady retired. Can Allen get over the hump? I sure hope so!

Yeah, Jerry wouldn’t tolerate someone who has their own ideas. Word is out that he’s going to hire Brian Schottenheimer, who has bounced around the league for more than 10 years, all in lateral moves. Never been considered as a head coach before and not a single team expressed the least bit of interest in him this year either. As Dallas’ OC, he didn’t even call plays. Effing Jerry.

Yeah, *Jerry wouldn’t tolerate someone who has their own ideas.

Exactly why we knew Dion was never going there!

... Interesting comments from Ben Johnson. Not losing turnovers is no longer a viable goal in the NFL. It is all about QB play. 10 of the top 12 QBs for TD's thrown are in the playoffs. Caleb Williams did not throw an interception in 353 passes and the Bears went 1-10 in that stretch. Johnson wants to take advantage of Williams aggressive nature and take chances, the hope being his good far outweighs his bad. I think that is today's NFL and glad the Bears are finally joining in.

Yeah, but those 10 were also some of the best with TD:Interception ratio. Most were 3:1 or better. I get the desire for aggression, but if you’re throwing interceptions at a rate of even half your TDs, the team will more than likely struggle. Look at the Broncos and Nix. His ratio was around 1:1 until mid-season and the Broncos were a .500 team. He ended up around 2.5:1 and the Broncos were 10-7.

Aggression can take many forms and doesn’t always fall to the QB and making risky throws. Going for 4th and 2 or less, play design, play calls, etc., play as much of a role as asking your QB to force throws.

How long after building a new stadium does it become outdated and demolished?  The Kingdome in Seattle seemingly had a short lifespan.

They opened Levi's in 2014 and I believe they've already "improved" it a couple times.  I've not set foot in there myself.  I think I've mentioned before that I'm extremely happy that I live on the complete opposite side of town from the stadium.

Thanks for telling us that imk. I had no idea they got rid of a Muni golf course to make way for Levi Stadium. How terrible. I bet Santa Clara golf and tennis was one of the last affordable courses in the area too correct?

When Levi's first opened and before a parking structure was built, they actually used a couple of the fairways for overflow parking and, if I'm not mistaken, the course hadn't officially closed yet.  There were all sorts of grand plans to build up retail, as far as I know, none of that has happened.  It's overgrown and dead, but the "course" is basically still there.  Our city council is in the 49er's back pocket - probably more appropriate to say they're in their wallet.

Admittedly, since I don't play solo as a walk-on single anymore, its closure didn't have a huge impact on me.  Particularly since the stuff they said was going to be built hasn't started 10 years later, in retrospect, it just seems like a waste.

... I hear that. There is always a place in sports for playin aggressive but up to a point of diminishing returns. So if you are gonna throw a lot of TD's you are gonna throw some picks. And then there are good picks and bad picks as well as when you throw the picks. Throwing over the middle into double coverage is very different than a CB dropping off his coverage and making a great play on a throw to a different WR. Throwing a pick with a minute left in the half and up by 7 is very different than throwing a pick with 3 minutes left in the game and a tie score. Same for a pick when down by two scores and less than 3 minutes in the game. I am one that think an obvious Hail Mary shouldn't count as a pick because how often did Mahomes have to attempt one compared to a QB on a team with a losing record?

... It's up to the OC and the QB to find that happy place of calculated aggression. Jamis Winston and Caleb Williams are good example of being too far on either extreme.
