I'll be taking auditions/interviews for a new team to root for; Cowboys won't win another SB unless the Jones family sells.  There's absolutely no reason to root for them while the Eagles are young/stacked while Cowboys trot out Dak.  Next three years...DOA.  And after that even if Jerry kicks the bucket or goes looney, guess who takes over?  Stephen Jones.  The only owner worse than Jerry.

 

Contrast that with Lurie and GM Roseman.  Lurie demoted Roseman from GM to give the job to Chip Kelley, then was man enough to admit he was wrong, fired Kelley, and promoted Roseman.  Can you imagine Jerry doing that?!?!  Impossible.

Way back, in 1985, the 49'ers beat the Dolphins, 38-16. Most box pools pay by quarter. Smaller prizes for 1st and 3rd, larger for halftime and larger still for final score.

 

An anomaly in the Fish-49ers game was the halftime, 3rd Q and Final were ALL the same box, AND a terrible combo, 8-6. Niners led at half 28-16, 3Q was 10-0 Niners and there was no scoring in the 4th Q.

 

Didn't know it at the time, but a friend-of-a-friend had played a $100 per box pool, winner-take-all.

 

When he drew 8-6 he kissed his money goodbye. 

 

And when he hit the halftime score he got paid ZERO.  Same thing when he hit the 3Q score.  

 

 But when he won the final, for $10K, needless to say, Happy Days !!!

I remember that game!  Only Super Bowl I've been to and I wasn't even out of high school. Helps when the game is practically in your backyard.  Worse halftime show ever.

 

Can't believe how time flies.  Back in '08 I went to a poker/ super bowl party.  It was poker all day/night while the game was going on.  That was the Tyree helmet catch game spoiling Pats perfect season.  I stopped playing cards to watch 4th quarter and at the end of the game Tyree makes that wild catch.  This guy suddenly yells to everyone "shut the f up, don't talk!".  Someone else said what's up and he yells don't f'n jinx it, shut up.  And I said "jinx?!?  Wtf? Player's can't hear us dummy!". And he still comes back with STFU!  It was intense.  Thought there would be a fight.

 

Giants get TD and win and the guy and his wife are jumping up and down celebrating, she's shouting we're going to Hawaii.  So I'm thinking ok, I get it, he put big money on the Giants, good for him, ballsy bet.  Turns out he won $50K with the 7-4 final score on a squares pool.  I'm like $50K?!?!  How much were the squares?!  He tells me $1,000 a square and he bought one square.  Unreal...

 

Mind you, I'm not in a room full of dotcom millionaries, it's a bunch of derelict gamblers.  Oh sure, good guys, good jobs, whatever, but degenerates.  I kept thinking what kind of wacko driving a 4 runner drops $1,000 on a square?!?!

Shaping to be a busy upcoming golf month for me.  I'm playing on March 2, 16, 23, and 27-30 - the last 4 days are the Bandon trip.  The round on the 16th is at Poppy Hills and I always look forward to playing there.

Anyone up for some Draft talk?

 

Gonna be interesting as the QB class is weak and there is no clear consensus for the first five picks. Think Jets going QB might be safest bet and anything else is still up in the air.

When was the last time we had a QB with as much upside ... and downside ... as Shadeur Sanders. He put up amazing numbers, but didn't play the best opposition. It's not like Jayden Daniels tearing up the SEC. I think Cam Ward is a safer bet, but less upside.

 

And Travis Hunter is a complete wildcard.

So the Cowboys’ Zack Martin announced his retirement. Saw this stat and the more i thought about it, the more amazed I was. Zero holding penalties in pass protection - over his entire 11 year career. Only 6 false starts.

This changes daily but Pats now have $130 Mil. in salary cap. LT for sure will be signed. Seven are FA. Trent Williams coming in and playing RG also being banter about a bit. Pretty sure he will resign with Chiefs unless he's sick of going to the SB.

Currently looking for someone to come up with a new NFL weekly Picks Contest and guide us during the 2025-26 NFL season starting this fall.

 

 

After 7 years of doing this I need a break from the control desk.

It's been a great time for a bunch of us.

Many in the mix have participated for a good number of years and I appreciate you guys mucho.

I sure don't want the Pick's Contest's enjoyable energy that I started years ago to die off just because I am stepping down.
