... Are You Ready For Some Football!?! I have my playing pards and wives coming over for the Super Bowl on Sunday. Third year in a row since I have a large great room and an 83" TV so plenty f room for 3 couples (and a single guy that may or may not attend this year). I will be making Taco's using my homemade seasoning with grass fed, free range beef, organic lettuce/tomato/chedder cheese/ medium heat pico de gillo and avocado on corn tortillas. Someone is bringing chips, someone is bringing sweet and sour meat balls and someone is bringing multiple deserts she is baking for the party.

... It all seems to go very well with a Chiefs and the Over Win. 🥳

Being that the Cowboys were shockingly knocked out of the playoffs, guess I'll have to stick with my Mahomies and over pick.

 

This extra week before SB has to go.  Too bad for the Eagles.  They had some pretty good momentum.  That's gone now.

Momentum shamentum. It's all coming down to if Hurts can through the ball accurately. Possibly with an extra week with extra rest he will be more on point in the big game. I also say the extra week will only help the Eagles standout defenders.

Hurts can throw the ball accurately, as can 95% of QBs in NFL, IF they have time to throw.  It's the Philly OL that is key to this game.  Everyone talks about how all KC has to do is stop Saquon; the old Bellicheat quote "make them beat you with their left hand".  This won't be much of a problem for KC, they have never given up 100 yards to a single rusher in 18 playoff games.  And it's not whether or not Saquon gets over 100 or not, it is about not letting him break off a 40 yard TD run.  So will Hurts get time to throw, and a lot of time, enough time to let receivers break free because the KC defense is elite.

 

Like just about every other playoff game, it comes down to turnovers (including turning the ball over on downs), and in this game, whomever has the ball last wins.  How do you bet against Mahomes in that scenario?

Bills' Allen wins MVP   ⭐

 

Even though Allen trailed Jackson in nearly every major statistical category, the prevailing narrative was the Bills QB accomplished more with less. After losing his top two wide receivers -- Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis -- Allen led the Bills to the AFC East title and the second-best record in the AFC (13-4).

Random thoughts as I flip a coin for my SB pick…in no particular order.

 

Chiefs have the better QB and coach (including OC and DC).

 

Eagles have better OL and DL, as well as more weapons.

 

Eagles CBs are outstanding, but both are rookies. SB lights are bright.

Expect Chiefs to blitz, putting DBs in man coverage. AJ Brown is the best WR in NFL vs man coverage.

 

Hurts as a runner is an added challenge, but KC prepped for Allen, so it’s not new for them.

 

KC will not be able to run the ball effectively against Philly. Expect lots of short passes, much like what Washington did in their first drive of the NFC Championship.

 

Eagles played KC to the wire 2 years ago and probably would have won if not for the Hurts’ fumble. Their D is better and they’ve added Barkley.

Pressure on KC is not unlike the pressure that was on the Pats when pursuing 19-0.

 

If Philly is to win, they need to win big. KC just doesn’t lose close games.

 

I hate Philadelphia.

 

Everything tells me that Philly is the overall better team, but coaching matters, no more so than in the SB. Reid will have something special on offense and Spagnola will do something to cause a key turnover. Ultimately, QB play will be the difference.

 

Give me the Chiefs, Over, 31-30 (that’s 61 for the mathematically challenged).

A couple of Cliff Clavin factoids from the above graphic:

 

The only shared MVP was when Harvey Martin and Randy White throttled the Broncos offense.

 

Of the 4 MVP LBs, one of that group remains the only MVP from the losing team - Chuck Howley of the Cowboys when Baltimore won. That remains one of my earliest NFL memories - my uncle leaving our house still complaining about the refs. Some things never change.
