I have a similar take on the Cowboys, although for different reasons. CeeDee Lamb is their only real offensive threat. Dak’s passer rating is something like 130 when targeting Lamb. When targeting any other receiver, it’s below 90. Scrap heap running game. Best OL is a rookie. Defenses will double Lamb and Dallas will struggle to score.

 

Defense was overrated last year and has gotten worse. Lost a number of DL rotational players and starters. Last year’s #1 draft pick, Mazi Smith, is already being tagged as a bust. Stephon Gilmore is gone. Trevon Diggs never had great speed, gives up huge plays, and is coming off a significant injury.

 

Dallas finishing 3rd in the NFC East wouldn’t shock me.

Correct. At this point in time I refuse to PAY for NFL on TV.

 

I'll likely not change anytime soon since, because of antiquated "territory" rules, I can't get NY NFL or MLB games here in SoFLA.

 

I even have YES Network in my TV package but can't get ANY Yankee games on it because I'm <50 miles from the Marlins. Fortunately, it's within a "digital" package where there are other stations I watch with some frequency - so I guess I'm not (really) paying anything extra for "YES".

 

Other than my NY teams, I seldom watch sports unless there's a) "Nothing" on, or b) it's a highlight game (like last night Chiefs-Ravens).

 

And even last night, I watched the first half, then turned on an old (& shorter) movie, and then saw the last 6 minutes of the game.

 

Basketball and hockey are less important to me right now and the playoffs in ALL the sports are all on basic TV right now.

 

So basically, since the regular season in pretty much every sport, means so little, the PLAYOFFS are the only events I'll make time to watch if my teams aren't in them.

@NJBigFish22 is taking that same stand I believe as well as a few others. 

 

I am fortunate that I have been gifted subscriptions to ESPN+ and Peacock. I also know how to get any NFL game stream for free through Reddit. I can't miss the big games. I have been a NFL fan since 1970. It's a long time addiction jack. 🏈

Great matchup. It will be interesting to see if the trends from last season continue, with the Pack surging and the Eagles collapsing.

 

Like NSX, I’ll also miss the game. The Peacock stream is another reminder of why I’m souring on the NFL.

You had it dandy for quite awhile new England, now it's some other team in the division's turn. 

Yeah it was a beep of a run, 20 years or so. If they could get that OL settled, big if, they could be very competative week to week.

... This is the interesting thing about week one when you don't have a bad team. While there is carry over of most personnel, every season takes on its own rhythm. (If you aren't KC)  We all remember when the Vikings put together an 11-0 record in one-possession games in 2022, an NFL record. They pulled off an incredible nine comeback victories in games they were trailing in the second half.  The next season they lost most every close game and they haven't been the same ever since.

... It's the NFL and the margin for victory or defeat is paper thin. Just the very tip of a toe last night. 😱  As my son always said, good teams find a way to win and bad teams find a way to lose. That has a lot to do with momentum, team chemistry as well as coaching, because when things start going sideways a good coaching staff can right the ship and a bad coaching staff can make things worse. 

... So tonite is a toss up and I think we will get a glimpse of whether these two teams are gonna find ways to win or ways to lose.  And you all know which Green Team I will be rooting for!

I got them winning it and the o/u for them is 11.5 wins followed by a first round loss. That division is awful and the eagles get 4 wins handed to them on a platter. NYG/Commanders are horribly run franchises and they always split a game with the Boys. They’ve got a decently soft schedule, but the team is seriously flawed. Hurts is a turnover machine and can’t read defenses to save his life

Agree, game in Brasil is nonsensical.  I like how the NFL just schedules these things when not one player could be bothered with it.  I suppose the "reward" is both teams get the next game at home against relatively soft teams.

 

Is this considered Love's sophomore year?  And perhaps a sophomore jinx?  I am not sold on him...yet.  He plays within the "system" though and has studied it forever.  Like almost every other team, his success depends on the OL success.  And GB's OL is middle of the pack (no pun intended).

 

If this was the Eagles of old who had a crazy defense and put bounties on QBs, the Packers would get worked tonight.  But they just don't seem to have that same defensive mindset.  It's all about trying to score 40.  

 

The other guy not totally sold on is Kellen Moore.  Eagles are stacked on offense, so if they do not score at will, then there is something seriously wrong with Sirianni and Moore.  They have to get it right because they won't be winning on the backs of the defense.

 

I put Philly as my PP this week based on they are going to score a lot, they only have to stop one guy - Love, and he may just show up too hyped and stop himself.  34-17 Philly.

... I have always loved Moore since watching him play for Boise St and listening to stories about how as a young kid he was always around his Dad when he coached. He basically ran the offense his senior year. HC at Boise said he will be a great coach in the NFL if he chooses to do so. Obviously none of that means he will be successful with the Eagles, but I love his pedigree and will always be pulling for him.

Both those organizations couldn't put a division winner together if they really tried and had a bunch of luck on their side to boot. 

During the first part of my career I lived in Northern Virginia (15 years) during the Jack Kent Cook ownership and Joe Gibbs head coach Redskins era. I went to 3-4 home games every year. Great team and great times. I even played golf fairly regularly with a few Redskins on Mondays as I lived close to the Skins headquarters in No Va and a few players would show up at two of the public tracks I played near Herndon, Va with some regularity, and since I was a single asked me to join up. Man did we Washington Redskins fans have it good for a number of years. 4 SB's with W's in 3 of them.

It was a damn good time back then to attend a game at old RFK Stadium. 

 

The Washington team turned into such gosh awful cruddy nonsense that I had to give up being a fan completely over 5 years ago.

The only thing either owner cares about is maximizing valuation which is not hard to do considering how large both markets are. Both teams have a flukey season once every 5 years where they get to the playoffs off a 9-8 record
