Saw two very important NFL lessons that most fans don't understand.

First, is how the Chiefs are lucky and the Patriots were lucky, but it had nothing to do with them.  Pickens embodied this.  The pick that Russ threw was because Pickens did not run his route since the ball was not coming to him - safety saw this and went to the middle and got a pick.  When Pickens did try/run, then the safety knew that he was one of the options on the play and got over to him quick, which is why he had two dudes around him most of the day.  You would never see this sort of selfish, stupid effort on the Patriors, Painting Manning led Broncos/Colts or this KC team.  You can sometimes just do everything right and wait for the other team to step on their own Johnsons and sometimes if you need it, you can crank it up a bit at the end.  Most see this as luck.

Next, remember when Stroud was Mahomes, Jr. last year?  When the league has a year to prepare and get ready for you, it can look a lot like this year in Houston.  Warning to Daniels, Nix and even if Darnold stays in Minneapolis.

Seems that most fanbases want the OC/DC or HC fired and don't understand how the game works.  How is Russ ever going to be good with a hole at WR who only plays when he wants to?  Texans staff is pretty smart and probably has run out of stuff to call and use that the league has not seen - now they need to wait until Stroud matures or gets better.  Either way, hardly DC or OC fault - if you want to blame Steelers HC for culture that allows Pickens to act like that, then it is totally fair.

I love it when people blame the refs and luck and stuff.  Just yesterday, probably half the viewing audience thought that KC got lucky or had the refs on their side, but KC had 9 for 90 yards and Pitt had 4 for 25 yards.  Love all of the talk about one score games and stuff, but KC had 8 games where they took a knee inside of FG range and could have went up 2 scores if they wanted to - and Kareem Hunt slid two weeks ago at the 10 to ice the clock instead of going up 15.

10 teams played the same schedule that the 4 teams on Christmas day did.  Monday=>Sunday=>Thursday is the same as Sunday=>Saturday=>Wednesday.  Can people stop crying that these four teams got hosed.  The whole things sucks, but they were not alone.  Only KC and Baltimore came out of their 3 games in 10 days stretch undefeated.

Another thrilling game! 3 quarters down and we have a riveting 6-3 contest. I say if the Seahawks can’t beat the Bears by 10+, it should go down as a loss for them! 😂

Actually like Caleb’s game and he’s been playing better lately. Had a helluva game (but a L) last week. And my gawd his OL is bad. Ugh

Comedy of errors in the Denver and Cincy game yesterday.  Guess this is why they teams had yet to beat a winning team.  It was super fun, though.

There sure are some bad stand-alone games this year.  Has it always been like this, or does this seem worse?

Seems worse to me j.

Anybody know how people in the Vikings building view McCarthy?  What to do with Darnold and McCarthy is going to be fascinating.  In KC, national people thought that it was stupid to move on from Alex Smith who had one of his best years and over 4000 yards... but everybody in the building and even every player was like "uh, the kid has to play" and the rest was history.  Tried to google, but cannot really find anything.

Many are like "you cannot let Darnold walk," but it is not that easy if JJ looked awesome and they all believe in him.

I wasn’t blown away with JJ at Michigan and he was injured way too soon to really see anything. Def don’t envy the Vikings having to make that decision.

*Just Googled JJ and the first story was an article saying they think the 9ers will trade for him to replace Brock

Darnold doesn't turn 28 until June 5, so it's not like the Vikings have to worry about his age if they want to give him a long-term deal. He has thrown for 4,153 yards, 35 touchdowns and a 68.1 completion percentage in 16 starts this season.

Shopping McCarthy would also allow the Vikings to recoup some of the assets they gave up last year as part of their maneuvering to select him. They currently have just three picks in the 2025 draft, with their first-round selection being their only pick in the first four rounds.

That's because BP is a huge drain on the niner's salary cap. He's costing them tens of dollars per game.

It's unsustainable really.

Been a Vikes fan since I knew what football was, 2025 is 50 years of pain and suffering.

I don’t know the answer on QB1, but was looking forward to the cap relief from a rookie QB. I just want them to win and have to trust the GM. The 3 LB’s he signed in the offseason were all home runs, couldn’t have done better there, so have to trust they make the right call. If they would just win it all, wouldn’t care about future, could die in peace.

It is too bad that McCarthy would not bring much now.  Injured and one year of his rookie deal gone.  Best hope would be if Jim needed a QB, but he is not likely to move on from Herbert.  Jerry Jones give a first for him... everybody else a 3rd and a 4th for a 5th, or something.

Darnold might take a step back next year once teams have an offseason to plan and even get some defensive guys in the division to go against his strengths.  However, he is pretty good and KOC is a a really good coach, so the falloff might not be too big.  Having JJ certainly does not hurt anything.

I usually am never looking forward to week 18, but it aways ends up being entertaining.  Somebody will go down to a backup/nobody QB and the playoffs won't end up like we thought.

Thinking KC and Minny in the Superbowl.  Both know how to win games - I don't want to hear any garbage about luck when both KOC and Reid based teams consistently win games that are close... this is a skill and is sustainable when you are well coached and have talent.  Feel Bills and Lions are peaking too early on offense and you need some kind of D to win in the playoffs.  Eagles are interesting to me and I have not seen enough of them to know what to expect - they are experienced and have some grit.  Ravens are a regular season team - Phil Rivers Chargers or Marino Dolphins (save for that one year).  Packers look like a team who beats bad teams but then go to sleep for long stretches against good teams.  Don't think that the 4-7 seeds in the AFC can do much outside somebody having to win the 4/5 game.

All of this said, seems that somebody wins wildcard weekend that we don't expect ala Packers crushing Dallas last year.  Chargers (if Pitt beats Cincy) over Ravens might be one... or maybe Bucs scoring and outlasting whichever 14 win team will get the 5 seed in some 48-45 game.
