Bandon Tips and Tricks

Going to Bandon next week!

Besides the obvious rain gear, any tips/tricks?
I hear to bring lots of shoes and change shoes/socks between rounds, prepare for all kinds of weather, etc

 

Please share your experience!!!

I was there 2 weeks ago and as you said just be prepared for any weather.  I only brought 1 pair of shoes and did not feel the need to change socks but we have nice weather all 5 days.  I was playing the card if it rained i was just going to buy some shoes while there.

Go to the NW subforum in courses and memberships, and start reading the hundreds of pages of Bandon threads.  Tons of advice in there.  

 

2 pairs of broken in, waterproof shoes.  lots of socks and footcare stuff, depending on how used to walking you are.   Good rainsuit, goretex or equivalent.   You might be dry, you might need it.

I was there in August, we played 36 4 days in a row and added on a Shortys 19 on day 1.  We walked about 75 miles in 4 days.  I suggest the following

 

- 2 pairs of broken in golf shoes

- quality socks (I wear Balega)

- tape your big toe to prevent blisters 

- the protein balls are great in round snacks 

- bring extra $$ for merch 

- the 2 best lunch spots in between rounds are Sheep Ranch and Shortys 

- Dinner at McKees is the way to go most nights, we did dinner at the OM steakhouse and it was good also. 

 

It’s the best golf experience on earth, have fun

Not gear related but get a burrito from Wilson's Marketplace if you go into town, those are absolutely fire. My dad and I went there 7 times in the 6 days we were there lol (their breakfast burritos are great as well). But don't get the super spicy sauce if you can't handle heat!

Look I have played Bandon over 50 different times. No matter what rain gear you purchase if iit rains you are getting wet period. Take 3 pairs of shoes and plenty of socks. Make sure you have a great wind umbrella and take plenty of towels. You will also need plenty of gloves and a ski hat. My ears always get cold lol... Have fun tip well and get the meatloaf...

Get the BBQ at the driving range for breakfast/lunch. Best food on property in my opinion. Steakhouse was very solid as well, but Im not spending $100+/meal every night. 

 

I would NEVER wear footboy packards again at Bandon. Wore them my first round out and my feet/legs were busted up sore by the time we finished. Had I started in my Gfore shoes my entire trip would have been much more comfortable. Lots of hills and very firm turf. 

 

Even low wind days are going to be more than you expect. 20mph wind is on the low side. You need a wind cheater shot you can hit reliably.

Beware of the crows, they will steal food.  (The side pocket zipper of my bag was 1/3 open and a crow went in and stole my sandwich.) 

 

2nd for Wilson's Market burritos.

search for the Bandon Short Loops thread, great suggestion to squeeze in a few extra holes.
