X Wave shaft. Lots of buzz on this soon to be released shaft.

So a new company is coming out with a new shaft called X Wave.  Looks amazing in person.  Lots of buzz from some who have tested it already and CC is already signed off on a video review.  I was lucky to get one and will test later this week.  It has a beautiful weave pattern in the carbon fiber and each flex/weight come in a different color.

here is their website.  http://www.xwave.co.kr. And on Instagram XWave.shaft.

Stock photo of the colors but it doesn’t do them justice as they are amazing in person.

would love to hear any reviews if anyone knows about them.

X Wave?

Went to their site and this really caught my eye, never seen a shaft made this way with the braiding

This is worth checking out

Graphic wise - it has some pop to them 👍

I love my Proxima 5X, one of the best driver shafts I've ever played with but it lacks pop in appearance but I'll play it all day long, its my gamer

Need to check them out on Instagram.... very intriguing, thanks for the tip 🍻

This, I don't know how other shafts are made but this seems pretty unique to me. Also agree with you 1000% on the cosmetics of the shaft.

I've been playing the Autoflex 505 since they came out. So far the best shaft overall that I've ever hit.

I also have a Proxima and it is pretty close to the AF. A tad shorter but so darn straight, especially in the wind. I will swap it out with the AF a couple times a month. Especially if I'm playing a course with really tight fairways.

I'm going to test out the X-Wave in a 5S later this week and see how it compares. Really curious to see the results. Hands down a winner in the appearance dept. for sure.

This process is essentially just filament winding and has been done for a long time.  Another instance of nothing new in the golf industry. Ironically back in the mid to late 90s, filament wound shafts were considered to be the "cheap" shafts even though they were insanely consistent and eliminated having a spine. I remember Mercury had a shaft called the Savage that was built this way and punched way above it price point.  Even True Temper had filament wound graphite versions of the Dynamic Gold.

For some more recent examples, check out the Paderson kinetixx shafts as well as the Mitsubishi OTi shafts.

Accra and Mitsubishi also have putter shafts made this way.

As a curiosity I asked the OEM about this and their response was that they were not certain if any other OEM’s were using the braiding technology before the X Wave, but X Wave patented the braiding technology a few years ago and no one else worldwide had done so before.

They didn't do much research then and maybe no one in Korea was doing it but this process has been around forever.

The Mitsubishi OT shafts describe the process as braiding in their description:

"Mitsubishi Rayon has given us a new technology, braiding. it starts with a new form of prepreg they call Tow. The carbon fibers are arranged in bundles, the way a steel cable is made. The bundles are impregnated with resin and then woven into a braid. That braid bundle is then woven onto the mandrel."

The process of filament winding is literally braiding filament around a mandrel, just like making a piece of rope.

Maybe the patent they have is in Korea only or maybe their braid has a unique style to it that is slightly different than others 🤷

After I demoed the 6X in this shaft, the tip is very stable and stout and that holds true throughout the entire bend profile.  It still launches the ball mid/high and with very little spin, but not a knuckle ball.  It is a super straight medium ball flight.  Really liked the feel as well.

BS. Mitsubishi made their OTi iron/hybrid shafts using braiding. It's probably some small technical detail in the patent that they say nobody did it before.

I don't think they're the same. I have a Paderson shaft and OT and they do not look the same. Paderson (similar to Xtorsion) just looks like they have sheets laid and wrapped in that patter. OTi shaft has these strands that are braided and it "almost" looks 3d...

So I was able to go to the range after work today.  Coming off a week of being sick and just wanted to get outside and swing a few and sweat out some of the bug that’s left.  Warmed up pretty quickly and then hit a few drivers.  I brought the X Wave and Ventus TR Black 6X.  I hit about 25-30 drivers in total.  I was able to turn the Ventus over like I normally do.  I play draw but at times I can over draw it.  Very surprising as the X Wave shots were dead straight.  I think if I had a tracer on the shots, it might be a single overlapping line.  They didn’t seem to have any movement.  What was also surprising was both shafts shots landed in the same area.  No roll as they have let the grass grow a bit so after the ball landed it was difficult to see the total distance.  I swapped out the shafts and played them both in my Callaway Ai Smoke TD 10.5 head.  X Wave felt really smooth.  Very point and shoot.

So I got the X-WAVE in a 5S, as I stated earlier this is one of the best looking shafts I've seen.

Here are a couple of pics, love the maroon / black metallic look.

We played 36 this morning. I played the first 9 of each 18 with my Autoflex and the second 9 with the X-Wave. I was hitting Driver really good today as well. As mentioned above the XW is silly straight. Not quite as long as the AF but for me nothing has been. Shaft has some flex to it, not like the AF but you can definitely feel the lag. You could hit this thing into a 1-lane tunnel. That's how straight it is. I also have Ventus Velocor and for me it was definitely straighter than that.

Going to play another 36 tomorrow and will probably play the X-Wave the whole time. Will report back tomorrow with another update.

Gorgeous, dead gorgeous. So what's more straighter, Proxima or XWave, based on your experience and what you are seeing?

Finally got my 6X out for some extensive play this weekend. First of all it can’t be stated enough how good looking this shaft is. The baby blue stands out in a crowd but not in an obnoxious way. The X Wave logo also has a nice, almost hologram effect to it when the sun hits.

As far as performance goes it took me about 30 swings to get my swing synced up with the shaft but once you do…oh man this thing flat out performs. I’m playing it in a mini driver because I no longer bag a traditional driver and the combo of the Brnr head and this shaft is so addicting. It feels so good you want to just go to the range and hit ball after ball. My go to shafts have always been a more stout shaft like Ventus Black or Hzrdus Green with a very late, aggressive transition. I’ve been working on tempo a bunch this year and have found THE shaft in the X Wave. It’s pretty amazing how you can hit 3/4 drives as well as giving it your all and the results don’t deviate.

Any questions feel free to ask away. I’ll be getting another 27 in today and can’t wait to hit it again! I’ll get some better pics up soon as well.

Okay, played all 36 today with the X-Wave and I can say the XW is as straight as the Proxima. Now that's a political answer right. But I do think they are equally as straight.

Where the Proxima shines for me is on windy days, especially into the wind. We haven't had any windy days since I've had the XW.

The XW does feel a bit firmer TO ME than the Proxima. One of the guys in our group was absolutely killing the XW with the BO's Tour-1 head. Dead straight as well and normally he has a consistent 10 yard fade. His swing speed is closer to 100 and mine hovers around 95.

My club is closed tomorrow but I am going to play another 27 - 36 on Tuesday and use the XW the entire time.

I need more dedicated time with the X-Wave to figure it out. Was planning to take it out for a round today, and just couldn't get comfortable with it at the range. To me, it felt stout. Stouter than the Ventus Red and Blue, maybe more like a Ventus Black level of stout.  Because I couldn't get comfortable with it, I chose to play my Aretera Alpha Blue during my round.

You GET A POP too 😂

I have a Ventus Black and also I was fitted for a Hzrdus Green 70 as well with the old SIM head, know them both well. Be interesting to see what the distance and dispersion pattern is like and if this XWave follows a similar launch conditions to the big boy shafts you mentioned

Keep us updated, LOVELY start 🍻

Excellent 👍

One of the things with all this straight talk, often the balls ends up  in the tree line itself. I know with the traditional shaft, I seem to put enough side spin to cover to the other fairway so I'm always at the whim of the Day's Golfing God that's on duty. Sometimes good, sometimes ugly.

My Proxima is currently paired with a ST-230 Max head, does not get any straighter than that combo and it proved itself when I played Rancho Park in West Hollywood, CA for the first time. Mature tree lined course, famous for it's history as a US Open venue and Arnie's "adventurous" 18th. I can say the Proxima has never ever disappointed me and I would rank it as my top shaft I've played but XWave is intriguing....

Keep us up to date. Lets see what happens with this shaft on truly bad shots as well

ps I wonder with Proxima, XWave, are we seeing a new wave, trend of new Korean shaft makers? Autoflex blew the doors open but it's good see to see what looks to be like top end shafts coming onshore to fight the traditional big boys. Hmmmh

So I took out the X Wave for a full on course test this afternoon.  Also took out the Ventus Blue+ 5X and the Proxima 6X.

I was so impressed with the first couple of holes that I only hit the X Wave the rest of the round.  I did get tired near the end as we had to wait a while but so far I’m pleasantly surprised with the X Wave.  Completely takes out the left side of the fairway for me.  I can hit a baby draw pretty easy with the Proxima and either the Ventus TR black 5X or 6X or even the TR Blue 7X or 8X (fairway woods) but today I could not really turn the X Wave over.  Dead straight but no draw.  Even when tired I had a tiny fade to it.  Such a nice feeling to know I can aim down the left side of the fairway and know it’s not going left.  Feels very smooth and I didn’t feel like I really had to go after it.  I did hit couple that went past the 300 mark and one was just a beast.  I will take out my Mevo and I have a Garmin R10 coming this week so I can give data numbers on all 3 shafts.
