So I took out the X Wave for a full on course test this afternoon.  Also took out the Ventus Blue+ 5X and the Proxima 6X.

I was so impressed with the first couple of holes that I only hit the X Wave the rest of the round.  I did get tired near the end as we had to wait a while but so far I’m pleasantly surprised with the X Wave.  Completely takes out the left side of the fairway for me.  I can hit a baby draw pretty easy with the Proxima and either the Ventus TR black 5X or 6X or even the TR Blue 7X or 8X (fairway woods) but today I could not really turn the X Wave over.  Dead straight but no draw.  Even when tired I had a tiny fade to it.  Such a nice feeling to know I can aim down the left side of the fairway and know it’s not going left.  Feels very smooth and I didn’t feel like I really had to go after it.  I did hit couple that went past the 300 mark and one was just a beast.  I will take out my Mevo and I have a Garmin R10 coming this week so I can give data numbers on all 3 shafts.

yeah, thats the ultimate, left side out but the extra distance is nice, TD seems to suit you well and...

ps I wonder with Proxima, XWave, are we seeing a new wave, trend of new Korean shaft makers? Autoflex blew the doors open but it's good see to see what looks to be like top end shafts coming onshore to fight the traditional big boys. Hmmmh

Yeh this for sure. Fujikura definitely has something with the Ventus line up. But for me and my swing they aren't close to these Korean shafts.

Like you stated the Autoflex was the first and came out with a bang and still going. There are so many threads on "Autoflex like" shafts.

For me so far the Autoflex is the best overall shaft I have ever played. Still my everyday gamer, the Proxima and now X-Wave are ALMOST there. I could easily play either one of them for the rest of my life and be completely happy with the results.

There are a few really tight courses in the Houston area. If I were to play one of them tomorrow I would game the X-Wave for sure. Good swings just go straight and the times I don't stay down and go through the ball the miss isn't nearly as bad.

I’ve been able to get out for another 54 holes and was able to do side by side testing with TPT Power 16 lo, Aldila Tour Green 6X (was my gamer) and Tensei 1K White 70TX. I think it’s pretty fair to say that (for me) the X Wave is a step above any other premium shaft I’ve tried as a whole. Looks, feel and dispersion are as good as any of the above mentioned on an individual basis but as a whole it’s not even close. I was skeptical at first because it took me a bit to get used to the profile but once I got acclimated it was an absolute game changer.

No one loves seeing shafts retail so high but the tech is in this shaft. I am 100% sold!

Building my 5S X Wave last night Fantastic looking shaft, compares to the Ventus Velore TR Red in the REF finish that I have. May be a slight edge to X for tthe carbon braid look, especially in the sun light where it POPS 😂

Here's the prepped tip:

20241001_121719.jpg.5d4caea05b065f2bca0a03ac8263b1e3.jpg

Clearly see the fine braiding all the way to the end. Tip looks like any quality shaft, pristine nicely finished.  Clear coat was somewhat easy to remove & light sanding to clean up

Was thinking of tipping to a 5X but not recommended by OEM so I left it as is. Based on Instagram posts these shafts handle way more speed than published

Braiding is OUTSTANDING:

I starred in the evening so did not have time to finish build. Tonight I'll complete it

Looking forward to mat h this shaft to my ST230 Max or even my Stealth 2+ head

Okay, played all 36 today with the X-Wave and I can say the XW is as straight as the Proxima. Now that's a political answer right. But I do think they are equally as straight.

Where the Proxima shines for me is on windy days, especially into the wind. We haven't had any windy days since I've had the XW.

The XW does feel a bit firmer TO ME than the Proxima. One of the guys in our group was absolutely killing the XW with the BO's Tour-1 head. Dead straight as well and normally he has a consistent 10 yard fade. His swing speed is closer to 100 and mine hovers around 95.

My club is closed tomorrow but I am going to play another 27 - 36 on Tuesday and use the XW the entire time.

I don't know whats going on with me and this shaft but the more I hit it, the better I hit it. I played 27 today and used the X-Wave the entire round. Had a few drives that were right out there with where I hit my Autoflex. Again no wind today but the shaft just goes straight, straight and more straight. Today was the first time I got the same distance I do with the AF.

Did put a couple bad swings (coming out) on it but was not as heavily penalized as I am with the AF. X-Wave just continues to impress, very stable.

So I took out the X Wave today to get a full range session in.   Got pretty warmed up but also quickly tired out as I only had coffee in the morning and nothing else.  As soon as I got off work, I went to the range to hit balls.  Brought out my Mevo and my son came out to watch.  He knows I fear the left and can turn a few over at times.  He said he was really impressed as every shot was dead straight or had a baby fade.  Very consistent on every shot.    If playing, every shot would either in the fairway or just in the first cut.  Here are my numbers with the range balls.  Not completely worn out but not the newest range balls either.  I haven’t had the Mevo out in a while so I didn’t set it up properly to show the spin.  If I would click on each drive, it would show the spin.  They all were around 2600-2900.  I have a Garmin R10 coming next week and hoping it will be a little better than the Mevo.  I’ll test both the X Wave and Ventus TR Black with the Garmin. IMG_0114.png.94fd82b0b88b8bb5e5745e9ba81007e9.png

Superb M2D, very nice north-south numbers there

So today I was working on my irons at Hansen Dam and I had my Full Swing LM out. When I was done, there was a guy (Javier) next to me working on his driver which I noticed was a Qi10 LS. We started talking and he was telling me he had a number of shafts but they we so loose and he ended up being fitted to a Ventus Black 7X. Since this is WRX, I confirmed it was a non-Velocore 🤣

Anyway, I invited him to measure his driver swing on the Full Swing. His few swings was around 263 carry and his next few went 265, 270. I didn't have my Full Swing app so this was all memory. His drives were all hard right fades. Looking at his swing I saw his setup was way open to the left. I pulled out a alignment stick and show him that and he did not even know he was doing that.

I showed me a draw stance and BOOM he was hitting straighter shots with a draw with his Qi10/Ventus and it jumped up 283 carry as well.

At the end, I asked if he wanted to try my driver, Mizuno ST230-Max 9.5 with the X Wave 5S. First drive, 293 carry.

He totally LOVED the combo. All his shots had barely any sidespin and where he launched it is where it went straight. I said this was a 5S, around mid 55 grams and way less than his 7X. He went wow. He said the usual waggle, he thought it was going to be loose like his earlier shafts before the 7X but the more he hit the XWave the more he appreciated how stable and accurate it was

Anyway, I love this - where its good to share a Launch Monitor and also throw in a nice combo for a you ng guy to drive. Javier could certainly drive it and I wished I brought my iPad to record some of his drives.

Anyway, he knows me and I know him so we'll play again with the LM

Yeah, he was EASILY 110+ swing speed with a 293+ carry and the 5S easily took his swing on <click>.

IMPRESSIVE X-Wave

🍻

Nice.  Maybe I need a 5S.  😜

Just got my hands on a 6X that I installed an tip and am going to test in my GT3 driver tomorrow. It looks spectacular. Cant wait to see it in the sun.

The weave texture is so cool and like another poster mentioned, when prepping the tip you can really see it.

I’ll do some extensive testing using trackman vs my two gamer shafts, Graphite Design UB 6X and VA Composites Drago 65 Five

Took my 6X out today with my GT3.  I will really surprised at how well I controlled the ball with the X-Wave 6X.  I’d built it this weekend and didn’t know exactly what to expect as normally I need a heavy shaft for control.  With the X-Wave, I actually hit a draw, a fade, and a nearly straight shot when I decided to hit those shots.  I’m not sure I am good enough to say I hit them on command every time, so needless to say it put a smile on my face.  Don’t have a monitor, so cannot say club head speed or actual carry distance… but this thing is long mated to my GT3.  I have to get this thing out on the course!

So I've had a chance now to play the X-Wave multiple rounds now. One thing that remains consistent with this shaft is tight dispersion. Bad swings aren't penalized as much as you think they will be. And good swings are rewarded with straight as you can point shots.

Isn't short on distance either. Not quite Autoflex long but close enough to make it a tough battle !!!!!

I want to add that I agree with @SEP1006…my less than perfect strikes flew nearly as far as my punished strikes.  I’m going to have a decision to make…. Come back to 6X in the X-Wave or stay at 7X in my current gamer.  Undecided as I post this!

I think i have been the only one who hasn’t been able to get comfortable with the x wave. Feels too stout for me (6S). And my aretera blue has been lots out.

I have a proposition. I want someone else to have a shot at testing it out and providing a review. If anyone is gaming a Ping head, i will ship it to you, just pay the cost of shipping. Only stipulation is that you should test it out and add your review here.

I've had two testing sessions with my X Wave so far. I took it out on the range yesterday for some head to head with my gamer shafts, no data, just went for feel. Today I got a brief range session in with it. Here's my thoughts so far:

Finish is unbelievable, it looks so cool in the sunlight. I opted for the 6X. I'm 110-112mph with driver and have been working on some speed training lately and can touch upper teens/120 if I'm feel good and going after it. I like to draw it off the tee and typically like a shaft that's stable but has some kick. I can make either Stiff or X work for the most part.

I built my X Wave up at 45" in my GT3 10*, STD Weight.

It's very hard to turn this shaft over for me. It does not want to draw. It's very stable, bordering on too stiff for me. Maybe I should have gone 5S, but this is WRX, it's and X and it looks cool! 😂 Definitely feels a lot like Ventus Black. At 69g it's heavier than most shafts I've gotten along with, but I did put a lighter weight in the head and it felt more comfortable.

I played 9 holes with it and if I commit to the fact that it wants to stay straight or cut, I could hit it really well.

Definitely going to need some more time with it, but it's a quality shaft so far!

I have been a long time lurker here but never really posted. I recently got the X-Wave 5S in my hands and threw a Taylormade tip on and plugged it in my Qi10 9* core head set 1 notch lower. I hit it about 30 times in a simulator but I just couldn't figure out the timing and was hitting it all over the face. Hit it again for a few days in the simulator and really started to figure it out with the X-Wave. With trackman, I have hit some of my best drives ever with the X-Wave along with my fastest ball speeds. I was able to hit my typical left to right fade without worrying about missing it left too much. I have definitely been impressed.

It's interesting that some have said it feels stout but I initially thought it felt very soft in the 5S. It seemed much softer than my gamer which is the Diamana GT 40X. My driver SS is around 95-98mph so the GT feels a bit boardy at times so the "softer" X-Wave is nice change while still being stable.

Some were saying they may need the 5S. I was thinking I may need the 6S lol. I am definitely excited to take it on the course, hopefully in the near future!

Been crazy busy but I took my POPPING RED 5S out for the 1st round last Saturday paired with my ST-230 Max 9* (standard setting) Played Encino GC in Los Angeles

What a START - piped a straight one #1, left with an easy 98 yard pitch and let me LAB Mezz Broomy roll for an easy Bird

Between 2 and 8 it was DAMN STRAIGHT, straighter than my Proxima which is very familiar on this course. Then came #9 hit a super low drive, almost topped it but this crazy combo still put the ball out there to about 220. Hit a simple hybrid, left with a 15 footer which Mezz rolled in for another bird

#10 I pulled it slightly but the crazy driver went well over the clump of mature trees on the left. Those who play this course, know this area well, between the #1  and #10 hole. Oh, it flew everything and I was left with a 185 yards to the green. Pushed that choked hybrid shot, simple chip and a 6 footer for another Broomy Bird.

2024-10-0522_12_33.jpg.5ad46a8570458f93f80d06e179c6996b.jpg

Last Bird was #13, not the greatest driver, a high fade but still got out there with a 95 yard pitch. Hit it pin high but a touch pulled and it rolled in.

All up, 4 birds for the day, offset by bogey. One of my better rounds this summer and honestly, based on coming back from a long vacation, sick, and lack of practice, I thought it would have been lucky to shoot mid 70s. I did leave a handful of birds out there as well...

In the end, it was no fluke, XWave is straighter than Proxima but distance wise, may be "just" a tad more to XWave. I have to admit It was not my best driving day. I know I have hit it better but somehow the X Wave always kept my ball in play and the rest of my short game & CRAZY broomy putting seem to finish the job that day.

Or perhaps it was the crazy HUMID heat with no breeze and walking. Ran out of beer mid back 9 and then I ran out of water around the 16th 🙄

So back to the shaft - as for stoutness, my "initial" experience is that the XWave 5S that I have is not as stout as my Proxima 6X. Same length, in the same head with the same grip. The XWave had a better feedback than the Proxima as well...but I think its in my honeymoon phase.

I need more time and I definitely need an 8* head as well (GT2 head on the way). My miss that day is a high push literally to the tree line. No hooks, but I think that the Mizuno Max head is IMPOSSIBLE to hook. Unlike my Stealth 2+ which can be crazy fadey or can get hooky, this Mizuno just wants to go straight with little sidespin - just have to start the ball on the correct path

Ah. its FUN with the X Wave

❤ it

Great round and write up! Honestly, the more I play this shaft and the more familiar I get with it I’m continually impressed. I haven’t hit a Proxima yet but enough top tier shafts to know this is as long as anything I’ve hit, albeit in the Mini Brnr. Putting them out 300+ with this combo makes you never need a standard driver. Couldn’t be happier with this setup

My exact experience. Played it again yesterday and it's just a great shaft. I have a Proxima also and it's every bit as straight and distance is equal. We really haven't had a windy day in the last few weeks. But when we do I'm anxious to put this in play.

I can tell just by my flight window that there will be no issue with the wind or at least no different than any low/low shaft (for me). I’ve yet to balloon a ball with it.

I’m glad so many are having similar experiences with this shaft.

  • 2 weeks later...

So far 3 rounds with the X Wave 5S with the ST230 Max 9.5* head and just last Saturday, my GT2 8* head. I ordered the 8* to stop some of my driver shots that tend to fly too high ala crazy pitching wedge high)

I played Encino, Woodley with the Max head and last Saturday, played Balboa with the GT2 head. The numbers below are from my T9 GPS watch for the Top 9 drives from the round. Srixon XV ball used in all rounds

10-27-202411-58-48PM.jpg.dff4ced27700c756b5449c65e0390614.jpg

To me the GT2 round was the most consistent, Aside from the top and lowest, I like the consistency, around the 260 mark. Balboa is mature tree lined but it's not very long but there are some holes with OB so not really going flat out either.

Also I still need to tune the GT2 head, it feels a tad light at C7 with my STR8 Tour grip (83gm grip) but I have a heavier GT2 rear weight on the way to bring it back to D0. My concern is the launch window, more weight = more tilt at impact, higher spin. We will see, it could be lead tape time also - ugh on a beautiful GT2 head 😂

What it doesn't show is how straight the GT/XW combo is compared to the Max/XW. It's pretty subjective, depending on the hole but seems more straighter than many other occasions. I know these courses well and what the XV will do if I fly that tree top etc so far GT2 carries everything pretty darn straight when the Max/Stealth2+ would have bled the ball left or right onto the tree lines/cart path below

Also its the first round with the GT2. Hope to get more comfortable with the head/weight to squeeze more distance out of it. Its there but not showing its face as much as I prefer.

All up, still loving the X Wave, I think it will be a really nice combination with the GT2. My Proxima is going back to the Stealth2+. That combination is still the longest at 283 average (last year though). Whoever said Stealth2+ is slow is definitely wrong

I let my son who is 37 and has a really smooth swing play the XW last week. He's been playing a GD shaft (can't remember which one) in a PXG Gen 5 head at 10*. His normal ball flight is low trajectory with a baby cut, hits it all day long. He probably averages around 275 off the tee.

From the first tee to the last tee he was consistently 10 yards longer and still hitting the baby cut. But even better for him his ball flight went from low to a really nice mid-trajectory flight.

Don't think I'll be getting this back from him.

Ive been playing the TPT Nitro 16 LO and absolutely love it but now im intrigued by this shaft

Like some of the other comments I've been a ventus black or diamana whiteboard guy. The TPT Nitro is excellent at a little lighter weight which sounds similar to this X Wave.

I thought i really liked the raw carbon finished of the TPT but seeing all these pics makes me want a new shaft

Another round with the X Wave 5S 👍

Played Encino GC this Saturday. Weather was cold for Angelinos, some sprinkling of rain and occasional 8 mph breeze with the weather front moving over the top of us

It's been such a crazy work week and I did not pick up a club until this morning at the range. This would be a real test to see how the swing will hold up.

This week I also received my 9gm rear weight for my GT2 8* head. Now the swing weight is D1 (previously it was C8 with the 3gm weight). I am using the JumboMax STR8 Tour grip that weights a hefty 83gm. I just like the feel of the heavier grip but I also just need a tad more weight on the head.

As I said, I didn't lift any clubs till this Saturday morning and I slapped on the weight late last night and just take it into play this morning - no testing, no nothing...but I trust my gut instinct this is what I really needed...

And it was 👍

Put on 7 more yards than last week playing at Balboa.

11-2-202410-36-52PM.jpg.e71b7f5fc8b8488590a8460755d2c0d6.jpg

Last week was also WAY warmer than today and accounting for the temperature difference, it would have been more yards if the temps were the same. But alas, it is what it is

This is also my second round with the GT2 head. At 8*, it is perfect as I no longer see any more high pitching wedge height drives. Really brought those out-of-sequence drives to a more manageable level.

GT2 head is INSANELY forgiving. More so than my Mizuno ST-230 Max. While some may consider the GT2 a Max-ish head, it just plain crazy forgiving.

Now match it to a one of the BEST LOOKING shafts and I have a lethal combo that I have been searching for all year...

2024-11-0213_05.29small.jpg.2df6ab8344a3f19456bb906004e180c8.jpg

However, as good as this combo is, it is still well below my Stealth2+ & Proxima 5X combo - I had a 282 average drives with that driver. Granted it was also probably in higher temps of June 2023. I think if I keep this GT2/XWave combo to June 2025, it will match or exceed it (HO note - doubtful as I'll probably pick up 2025 Callaway TDS based on what I have heard 😁)

2024-11-0220_07_08.jpg.21f25ef35a2ea546458c883f4413bc1c.jpg

That 11th hole Par 4 296 drive was such a joy to hit and watch. The GT2 launched perfectly and carries the left mature pines, flew the bunkers with a baby draw. Probably one of my best drive on that hole EVER. I would really have to research that one. It's such a LONG A** Par 4 hole as well

To finish off, this was such a really nice rainbow as seen from the 14th hole tee box...

Another round with my GT2 8* head and the X Wave 5S. Again, lack of practice this week so I was only able to hit some balls this morning on the range and jumped into the round. Not much expectation from the round due to the lack of practice but it's a SOLID test to see how my basic swing will hold up against the guys in my 4some

The weather was super nice this time of the year. Hardly any wind and a nice 70+ Bluebird day. Today we played Woodley Lakes GC

#1 1st drive was piped. Not super, super long but up there

#2 Almost drove the green

#4 Did not even see the ball but past the trees on the left

and that was my day, drives were up there or longer and usual. #9 was probably the best, left with a nice mid iron into the green where normally I am in my longer hybrid

The real bad news was that I was also testing the VoiceCaddie T11 Pro watch I just got. It failed to detect and record ANY shots.

I think it may be its me messing with the setting or something but it failed to pick up ANY shot at all. So all the data I would normally get from my GPS was not recorded at all. In hindsight I should have used my trusty T9 but ALAS... I need to figure out WHY. The T11 has a lot more options so I may have screwed something up there with the shot detection. I'm going to email Customer Service tomorrow

Sigh

Anyway, in my mind my stats on this round would have blown away last weeks 270 average. It felt more consistent and longer. The GT2 head is the real deal, not once did I ever get a shot that ballooned on me and I KNOW I did not middle it every time - and today, it was not in the tree lines this time and still OUT THERE. Incredibly stable whether you swing 70% or 100%, no looseness and so delicious at impact. I really like the Titleist sound as well. Classy and not obnoxious, loud or aluminum tin can like some driver. Well done Titleist

Even my buddy asked if I took any drugs before the round 🤦‍♂️no, no I did not...🤣

2024-11-0914_46.18small.jpg.4377ed4d215c5f2595e0a3344a519fba.jpg

Took the photo and MAN, it looked like a Red Lightsaber in the Sun. That RED Pops...😂

2024-11-0915_36.31small.jpg.d1bccd50c01ba0e44287b212c35b09dc.jpg

We had a guy with an Autoflex 505X and a Darkspeed 8* head. Similar swing to mine but the GT2/X Wave was way past him. He was a hitting some really low cruise missiles today with his combo. My 8* was still had more apex height than him. Very different, it was fascinating to watch him and him watching me...

Can't wait till next week

Went out and played today.  Haven’t touched my clubs in over a month, not even a range session.  Took out the Ai Smoke TD Max 9* head with the X Wave.  Only missed 1 fairway today.  I cannot say enough bout this shaft as it’s a fairway finder.  I wish my putting was as good but thats for another day.  XWave is squarely in the bag!
