I’ve tested it with a Ping G440 LST 9* brand new.  I was testing all the new heads vs each other.  I only hit about 15 balls so I’ll probably list it on the BST soon.  I know people love Ping and I wanted to as well, but it wasn’t about the X Wave, I just didn’t like the sound or feel of the ball coming off the face.  As for weight, launch, etc. everything else was normal, it’s just a preference for me.  XW had no issues being paired with the Ping.

Thats good to hear. I’m married to this Ping, I hit it well but finding working shafts is a bit challenging without changing head weights to keep the SW in check.

Which Xwave were you hitting and did you need to do anything to manage the SW?

Some YouTube from FBT Golf X-Wave:

Showing the braiding process. Very, very cool

Yeah, per M2D these shafts are "regular" in terms of weighting/balance - nothing special needs to be done (unlike Autoflex that needs a lighter head weight etc)

Don't even tip the shaft

Very interesting - any one tried this with Ping heads? Might be looking to test with my 440 LST 9*

SS - 108 average, top out at 115 on good days. Leaning towards 6S

I've tried with my 440 max. Had to reduce the head weight to keep swingweight in check. Insane straight combination.

I am using All-fit adapters, so maybe that caused the head weight issue, but originally it was like D7. I had a g430 17g weight at home and stuck that in it.

Finally got some meaningful time with the 5S. Playing at a 46 after playing a OG ventus blue at 44.5. Playing at a D5 with the Arccos sensors installed.

This has the same good feel as the ventus but is much more stable. Launches high but still very low spin.

I turn the blue over pretty easy and this stayed very straight. I could still shape the ball and the shots were very tight. On one hole I faded the ball and it unfortunately the fade was tighter than I expected and too far so I ended up in a bunker I usually don’t reach.

According to arccos, I gained 18 yards on average on tee shots on par 4 and 5’s and gained 0.7 shots as opposed to losing 1.7 (on average) over the last two rounds compared to a single handicap player. My score was hovering around mid to high 80’s the last handful of rounds and I ended up shooting an even 80 today. If I didn’t three Jack the first hole I would have broken 80 for the first time since coming back to the game about 2-3 years ago.

I started speed training again with stack system this week so I’m excited what results I’ll end up with after the next couple months!

Receiving a 6s to build soon. Want to pair it with a ping g430 10k. A few comments suggesting I can put the head right in and a few saying I need to put a lighter weight in. Any comments from members who have played this combo would be helpful.

I’m playing G440 LST head at 45.5” and needed to drop down to a 21g head weight at D3.

The 10K max head weighs about 6 grams heavier if I remember right so you’ll need a lighter the back head weight.

It was spinning too high for me. Closer to 3k with the 440max. The larger issue was my inability to square it up - just doesn't work with my release and resulted in spinny high rights

I was spinning both 6S & 6X at 24-2600. Lowered my loft to 8* and it tightened everything up.

Played Bali Hai in Las Vegas yesterday with the Xwave 6S. Fun little resort course  with a few holes that you can really get after from the tee.

Had one of my best driving days in a long time. Hit a couple of bombs and just about every fairway.

What I noticed on course was I could tell where the face was on every swing giving me confidence to hit shots over the Palms and move the long ball around the course.

It’s staying in the bag for sure.

I haven't shared any actual GPS data from my rounds in a while, so here's an update.

Setup: Titleist GT2 8° paired with the X-Wave 5S shaft and a JumboMax STR8 Tour grip.

Today, I matched my best driving stat (Average 285 driving distance) from January 4, 2025, achieved at Encino Golf Course, Los Angeles. This time, I played its sister course, Balboa Golf Course, also in Los Angeles.

Conditions: The weather was a perfect 85°F with calm winds, and the sun graced us all day long. The course was in good shape, although, true to form, the LA City grounds crew had overwatered parts of the fairways.

Now, here’s the twist: I had taken a two-week break from golf to go snowboarding at Mammoth. I hadn’t touched a golf club until this Saturday morning, when I warmed up with a modest 20 or so balls. With the rust, I delivered a few toe-driven shots—a helpful reminder to work on my face position moving forward and it paid DIVIDENDS, not a single toe shot 🤙

4-19-202511-10-29PM.jpg.4ddb48f8f819e51a15fb43933c368081.jpg

It felt fantastic to have precise control over the ball. This was my T9 GPS reading, with the ball visible in the background. The initial 312 ended up being 314, as confirmed by the VC app—and I’ll gladly take that result! 👍

Hole #8 always calls for a fade, but this time, my drive was impressively straight. It didn’t feel particularly long when I struck it, but the ball contact was incredible. The GT2 produces such a satisfying sound when middled, and today, it was absolutely singing.

Hole #16. This shot was a pure joy to hit. The hole is a slight dogleg right from the tee box, framed by mature trees and a bunker. For bombers, the setup begs for a fade shot. But it’s a delicate balance—you can easily overcook the fade and end up in the rough. A safe bailout is to hook or pull left instead.

For this attempt, I aimed directly at the bunker, pulled the trigger, and watched the ball barely clear the treetops. Sometimes, I forget that my 8° driver is cranked down to 7.25° loft. Watching it take off and fade beautifully.

It was a joy, like the first sip of a cold beer on a blazing hot day! 😁

If this is how the Summer of Golf begins, it's shaping up to be an unforgettable driving season!

The way the ball is launching off my GT2 8° head paired with the X-Wave shaft is unlike anything I've ever experienced with any shaft I’ve used, sold, or owned. This combination is so exceptional that I’m not even considering another driver. Believe me, the temptation is real with options like the 2025 offering -  Elyte 3D, Ping 440, Qi35 LS or Cobra Adapt.

But I genuinely don’t think I’ll find a better driver head when it comes to distance, forgiveness, or dispersion.

And this isn’t about launch monitor stats—this is real, on-course performance, with the ball in play during an actual round.

Hats off to X-Wave 5S and Titleist

Thanks mate. Oh, I totally get it. I had some weird rib muscle pull or something under my right ribs where the follow through, it would scream "HELLO". I think its healed but not quite 100%. Never had this injury before but I think - you know this, the SPS swing is a GOD SEND without hitting the Aleve or Ibuprofen after the round. Yeah, I am really enjoying this.

As I’ve said before, I’ve never owned a Titleist driver—until the GT2. And oh. my. goodness. What a revelation! This gem boasts the forgiveness of a Ping, the ultra-low spin of an LST, and when you pair it with the X-Wave shaft? Perfection.

Absolute, unmatchable, SUPERB - a true 🦄 for me

Had a few back/forth PM's with @My2Dogs and he was telling me how you and him were killin the G2. About 2-3 weeks ago my club had a Titleist Demo day and I signed up for a driver fitting. Went through multiple shaft combos and the the fitter actually had an Autoflex (SF 505X) to try with the head. Didn't come close to beating out the AF / Black Ops Tour-1 I've been gaming. Just works for me.

I've not tried the Black Ops Tour-1, heard so much good things about it &  it was tempting. I wanted to do that $100 challenge with it but they never had a location close by. Lol, I booked a testing accidentally at Scottsdale instead of Simi but PXG was gr8 to cancel it last minute 🙃

I didn't get fit either for my GT2 as I knew the spec I needed. But I was very surprised by how good it was even at the current 7.25* setting, how easy it was to launch & the utterly ridiculous forgiveness that such a low lofted driver has proven.

At the end of the day, go with what works. I think M2D is still on his Elyte 3D but he's probably more enamored with Elyte. By the way I've not hit the Elyte eventhough my good buddy Riley is a Callaway staffer. One say. May be.

I can't wait to see what Titleist will do after GT line. Wow, never thought I would ever write that 🤯

I just got done playing today.  Only have 1 week before my last NCGA qualification.  Went skiing yesterday so starting out I was so rusty and sore.  Took me 4 holes before I felt somewhat normal.  I ended the day with a record 6 birdies at Haggin Oaks Alister MacKenzie.  Wasn’t long but we played right behind a NJGA boys tourney so the course was tough and greens were rolling.

I ended up going back to my Cally TD with X Wave, just because I’m a bit fearful of one bad driver messing up the tourney.  The GT2 8* is really forgiving but not as forgiving as an 10.5 head.  I Absolutely pound a bunch of drives today but did hit one horrible hook.  The best luck was that it was the hardest hole on the back 9 😭.  The longest par 5 (Was 545 today), I smoked a driver to a few yards short of the 200 marker.  We had a small tail wind.  I then hit my 4I driving iron over the green.  One of the best pure contact days with all my clubs.  Hit such pure shots all day, except my chipping- I’ve got stone hands right now.

I absolutely love my X Wave.  Funny as 2 of the guys I played with were young men (yes I’m old) about mid 20’s.  They were asking what shafts I play and everything is X Flex except driver.  They couldn’t believe I’m hitting a 5S but once they saw the drives, they were asking where to buy one of these shafts.

But I was very surprised by how good it was even at the current 7.25* setting, how easy it was to launch & the utterly ridiculous forgiveness that such a low lofted driver has proven.

Yeh I typically play the BO Tour-1 at 8*, sometimes will play it at 6.5*. And like you

very surprised at the forgiveness.

I've been casually watching for an X-Wave 5SR to try out of curiosity. Added that as a trade option in my Autoflex ad.

And age, relative for sure. AT 68 years old both you and @SwingBlues are young men to me, LOL.

I'll throw this in here. Matt with the new LA Golf driver head paired with the X-Wave 6X versus his gamer, the GT2

Gotta agree with Matt, the GT2 has been sensational but like he said, he toes it and so do I (so severely at times), the LA Golf head looks extremely good.

Check out his last 2 deliberate toe shots - literally identical at 8mm toe a piece -- the LA Golf just pips it due to slightly less spin

Truly Amazing shoot out done by Matt 👍

ENJOY

I don't know why he would say the XWave 6X is "limited" though?

anyone have issues hitting the 5S very high? 140ft on the Trackman and much higher than normal on course. SS is 109 MPH average, Maybe a 6S or 6X would be a better fit. I am also having spin issues, anywhere from 1900-4000. I dont have spin issues with my Aretera Alpha One so it is not a swing issue.

I might end up selling my  5S on BST

Have you tried lofting down? I played my Smoke TD at 9 with the Alpha one, and had to go down to 8 with the X-Wave to get numbers that beat out the Aretera.

Kind of in the same boat, having great sucess with the AF 505x and would love the try the Xwave but not sure where I should fall flex wise. I really think a AF505 straight in might give me more distance so I would lean to the 5 SR in the X wave but the 5s also seems like a closer match the 505x and I hate to loose what accuracy I have for a few more yards and $600
