X Wave shaft. Lots of buzz on this soon to be released shaft.

As I stated earlier in this thread I let my son use my X-Wave a couple weeks ago. He flushed his drives all day long with a baby cut and probably 10 yards further that his previous shaft, which he was fit for.

Got a chance to play with him again yesterday. Nothing has changed. He's like a kid at Xmas on the tee box now. More confidence that he has ever had before.

Yeah, I'd like to see the comparison as well, hopefully a WRXer here has one

So I played last Saturday @ Encino, a little on the cold side but with a mild 4mph wind total sun.

It was a totally WILD round for me. Rolled off 3 birds in a row, something I have not done in a while now. Hole #4 is a Par 5 and I hit a 299 drive. OH MY GOD, just 1 yard shy of the 300 🤦‍♂️

2024-11-1820_40_49.jpg.325ab6f949f1b1eba47ec0df76ba60bc.jpg

Hit a beautiful 3 wood ended up a tad short so I rolled the Broomstick Texas Wedge and a tap in Bird. Next hole #5, hit a 285 drive but didn't even get a chance to see or enjoy it. 2nd shot was meh, but I did curl about an 18 footer for another bird.

That day I pipped the last round there with my GT2/XWave average by a single yard:

11-18-20248-37-20PM.jpg.1a6f11d432db03d83b11ffb7286e1a01.jpg

I would say there was a little temp difference between the 2 days but it was pretty close

Reviewing my drives, I think I have 2 modes. I just got to work harder to swing it faster. This last round the overall numbers are higher but the prior round had 2 more 280+ drives that boosted up the numbers

However, I think this round was much, much better in terms of keeping it on the fairway and getting the distance

I continue to be impressed with the GT2 8* and how SILLY FORGIVING this head is for a low lofted head and me not being a super speed SS. The XWave 5S  just continues to impress when paired with this head. Given this is not the season or conditions condusive to longer drives, this pairing continues to give me confidence and shoot lower scores

Still ❤ing it 🍻

  • 2 weeks later...

So I have not been able to play a lot lately.  Lots going on with family and work but got out yesterday.  Im not as fast as I was earlier in the year due to not having time to workout and play as much, also getting older.  I took out the X Wave to Woodcreek GC in Roseville CA.  Weather was good, sunny with a little wind (5-10mph) but we started off cold.  Teed off at 10:30am at 44-45*.  Warmed up to 55* later in the round.  I put the X Wave 5S into my normal Ai Smoke TD 10.5 head and it’s giving me some of the same characteristics of the Autoflex.  I was in places Im at in the summer or when it either warmer or dry with roll.  Yesterday was very damp and we were not getting any roll.  I was consistently getting around 270-275 carry and on my longest I did get one 290-295.  I didn't mean to but i couldn’t see the group in front as they were past a little hill and thats 270 out.  So I hit and when we came up to the ball, they actually put it on a tee.  I immediately drove up to say sorry and apologized but they laughed as they said it was a great shot and flew over their heads.  I know its the shaft as I had to constantly hit up one iron and on one short par 4, I used my mini driver with a Ventus TR Blue 7TX and I landed where my 5 wood would normally be.  The thing is, even with the whip like action, its still dead straight.  I can draw it a bit but not nearly like I can the Autoflex and I'm not having those right blocks when I don't time the Autoflex up correctly.  If you want an Autoflex that doesn’t spin up as much or that you don’t have to time up the head, or get crazy with the head weights, i would recommend going down one flex with the X Wave.  Great shaft, beautiful graphics and can give you some extra distance but still keep it in play.

I was playing with my dad this past Friday and was SURE my drive on our 9th hole was OB left...but once again, like a couple of weeks ago when playing that hole with my wife, the ball was right there in the left rough leaving me a tough, but playable shot into the long par 4 under / around a tree.  This time, I actually got up and down for par, which is far better than a maybe double bogey if I actually "parred out" after going OB with drive #1 and hitting a 2nd drive well.  On 10, I was thinking about that drive and almost manifested a drive OB on one of the widest fairways in the world, but again, the GT2 kept it in play somehow.  Left the approach from the deep rough short and couldn't get up and down, so I ended up w/ a bogey, but on those 2 holes alone, that was AT LEAST 3 strokes saved by the GT2's forgiveness.

To be clear, I'm still using my Tour AD-VF 6S shaft, and will be interested in seeing if anyone has any comparisons between the Xwave and this shaft in the GT2 in particular.

YES 👍

I think, for me, this is about the best combo I've ever had in my hands. Superforgiving and the 8* is giving me the lower launch that I need - traditionally I always played a 9* head. I put in a 9gm weight in the back and I know it's effecting dynamic loft with a slightly higher flight than the stock 3gm weight it came in but I'll toy with this later next year

Last Saturday, I played Wilson GC here in Griffith Park, Los Angeles

It's a hard to get on course so our group rarely plays it. Classic old course, with mature trees and some really GNARLY elevated greens and speed is much faster than the regular munis along with the 6 to 10 ft breaks on some holes.

First time round with the GT2/XWave at Wilson. Weather was overcast and cooler, around 65*, no wind but it was damp due to the offshore flow that rolls in from the Pacific. At least it was clam with almost no breeze

This was the ballsy-iest drive for me. I had no intention to make it so but it is what it is... 😁

The 5th hole is a Par 4 to an elevated green. Hole is OB and tree lined on the right. There are TALL mature trees in front of green and protecting it. You cannot see the green from the tee box. In the past anytime I tried to reach this green (it's not a super long hole about 280-290ish) the ball always crashed in the tall pines and have to chip out.

This time, the GT2 and XWave was money. Probably one of my best drives ever on this hole. Hit the drive, felt hot and good and the ball just flew those trees and landed a good 15 yards past it. Leaving an easy chip onto a very, very, diabolical and tricky green...

That's what I call SATISFACTION 🍻

2024-11-3018_25.32small.jpg.bc7d53cf32f6b03940f40d0a438f2a29.jpg

It's funny the GPS images always makes every thing look nice and wide but reality, it's not

I did catch some tree lined drives but it's nothing at all "in the woods" on this course.

The 12th hole Par 4 was a beauty too, the drive was slight push right but flew the right sided tree lines. Over the top. Again. Normally, I remember those drives would fade inside the tree lines and I would get snookered. Not this time - ball was on the fairway, open shot to the green, thanks to the extra length 👍

Yeah, the stat average drive was only 267 but the feel was that it was longer than the number shows. For me. On a course like this, its pretty darn good considering the accuracy that is required on some of these holes as well.

Yeah, it's a sweet combo = Titliest GT2 8* with the XWave 5S shaft

🍻

I need to find one more X Wave 5S and pair it with the GT2 8* head I have.  With the forgiveness of the GT2 but in that low loft and the forgiveness/distance of the X Wave- could be a unicorn.

Bit the bullet and ordered an X Wave 5S. Let's see if it can kick the Ventus Blue TR out of the bag.

What is your normal swing speed?  I think you will really like it.  If you are going with the same flex that you normally use, you will see a major improvement in consistency and just being straight.  If you are looking for being consistent, straight and more distance, I would recommend going down one flex.

I played yesterday and my back was really tight.  No practice swings on the tee boxes like I would normally do and i was swinging around 80%.  I only missed 1 fairway and my distances were the same as where I am with the Ventus TR.   I was using the 5S and it’s dead straight but with a kick to give you more distance like with the Autoflex but again no crazy swing weight requirements.  I normally use an X flex shaft but Im currently loving the X Wave 5S.

Guys playing this shaft, does the "braiding" look anything similar to this? This is what Aretera calls Powergrid on their Alpha One.

Hard to get a good pic, but just curious because as discussed before, I know "braiding" has been used before.

Somewhat.  Ive got both Aretera (gray and blue) and neither could knock the X Wave out.  Another one of my buddies has an X Wave and he went down a flex and we havent talk since he purchased it.  Ran into him on Wed at GG and he was saying that he is getting 4-5 more mph swing speed and ball speed like the Autoflex but without all the head weight and tempo issues that Autoflex brings.  That’s the same thing im seeing with my 5S.

My buddies wanted me to play in this weird format tourney today and I agreed but should have stayed home.  Horrible weather.  Coming down in buckets and wind was 20-30mph constant with gusts up to 40. I dont even know why they had the tourney as we had lakes and rivers in every fairway.

Anyway, I was hitting my irons and wedges great but driver was not good.  I had on 4 layers of clothes and couldn’t get a good feel for the swing.  After the 7th hole, rain stopped and we just had to deal with the wind.  Around hole 14 the wind subsided to around 10-15mph.  I took off 3 layers and just had my long sleeve UA base layer and a polo.  Once I was able to swing freely, I started hitting driver well.

last hole is 520 yard par 5.  It’s downwind and previously over the summer with the same driver head but my SF505XX Autoflex (Also had about the same wind but it was 95* and getting roll) I hit my longest drive there.  341.  Today was 52* and as previously stated, cold, wet, no roll.  The X Wave provided me AF type numbers but I hit one 353.  It was unbelievable as I had 167 left to a middle pin.  The X Wave 5S is squarely in the bag and nothing has come close, except the Proxima 6X.  If you are looking at an Autoflex or the new Dream, I would recommend going down a flex and down a weight and get the X Wave.  Similar characteristic’s but without all the hassle of changing swing weights, getting the tempo just right, etc.  I can go crazy in the transition and it’s dead straight but with extra distance.

Don’t get me wrong.  I love the Autoflex.  When my tempo is bad on the driver, i do take it out to assist me.  It does give me more swing and ball speed and more distance.  It’s rough into or having a side wind.  The issue is you really have to work to tweak the swing weight. Some play better a little lighter, where others have to go really light on the head weight.  Some heads are difficult to change the swing weight and some OEM’s are just too heavy for AF.  Also your tempo has to be on, otherwise I get those right blocks.

Now the X Wave in the X flex was really stout but dead straight.  Not any longer than my Proxima 6X but I couldn’t draw the X Wave.  Took out the left side completely.  Not even a draw, at least for me, as I’m around the 110-112mph swing speed range.  Just on the edge for the X Wave X flex.  I went down a flex and weight and now it’s giving me all the advantages of the Autoflex but without all the negatives.  I dont have to tinker with the swing weigh at all. It was plug and play.  Also into the wind, it flights really well.  The Autoflex balloons up for me.  Best shaft in the wind is Proxima but the X Wave is close.  First hole we had yesterday was dead into.  I mean howling into.  25mph with big gusts.  There was a literal river  through the fairway and it had a lake in the low spot, so obviously no roll.  I hit one about 240-245.  The other 3 guys were 70 or more behind me.   Did really well on the first 2 holes as both were dead into.  I can also elevate the X Wave or keep it lower.  The Autoflex always wanted to be a higher ball flight.  The X Wave just fits my swing easier and I think people who want the Autoflex might want to look at the X Wave.  It’s a little less expensive and doesn’t have some of the other issues.  Again, just my 2 cents after testing, playing a bunch of the Asian shafts and Ventus/GD models.   Im getting faster swing and ball speed and added distance and keeping it in play.  Only missed 2 fairways yesterday and that really good with the conditions we had.

Thank you for the detailed response, I have been following along since the start and was just too stubborn to get off the wallet and try one.

I doubt on my best day I hit 100 mph but can feel the 505 xx load (somewhat anyway) and today hit it 15 or more yards than the GD AD VF 6s on a course I know well so there is something there to get.

I am seriously thinking of the X Wave 5s or AF 505 or 505 x to really get some speed out of it.

Bit the bullet and ordered an X Wave 5S. Let's see if it can kick the Ventus Blue TR out of the bag.

Thanks. Older and not a bomber. High 90s to low 100s on a good day. Also putting in an AI Smoke TD 10.5. 🤞

That's right in my range as well, the 5S is perfect but mine is paired with the GT2 8*, to me this head is what the Ping Max drivers should have been. Fast and forgiveness thats OFF THE CHARTS when paired with the Xwave 5S. As I gather more stats (abliet its finicky with a less than reliable T11 GPS watch. Ugh) each round I play is just backing up my thoughts that this is really, really GR8 combo for my swing

The numbers are all within the cool weather of a Los Angeles winter so this would SIZZLE & FIRE in the Summer of 25 🔥

I also observed my miss is a high push right, can't seem to hook this beast. And whether you go at it at 100 SS or decide to go up a few gears, the XWave is not sloppy at it, it will take it and dump the ball in the middle of the fairway. Its a real surprise for my 4some to get the distance this time of the year

Be interested to see how you do with the TD...although someone here will also be testing a GT2 8* in the 5S 😁

I may hook my 6X up to a G430 LST.  Great results with X Wave for me no matter what it has been in, and I am hoping the forgiveness of the G430 with the pop of the X Wave will set me up for 2025.  I love the look of my GT3 and out of the middle it is a monster, but it is winter here so maybe I will tinker a little.

It looks like I am going to dive into the rabbit hole, I see there is now a X Wave  "Diamond X" can't seem to find anything about it or is it just the same shaft with a different name? Their website does not mention it, a Seller on the bay is calling it a new release.

I am thinking of ordering a 5 SR since I feel the 505XX I have is at least a flex or more too much, but it still works as well as my GD AD VF 6s.

I have been messaging the dealer and he says a 5S would fit me, but if M2D's is hitting a 5s with his speed I am leary of it for me. I am a big lug but still only hit 100 mph on the best of the best swings and that is just a guess I have not been on a LM in years, so 95+/- is probably more accurate if I am being honest by my typical distances with normal Driver shafts.
