see what he says about maybe going 1 more flex.  It also depends on whats most important.  If you are concerned about hitting it straight, no movement i would stay with the same flex you normally play.  If you want a little more distance but still straight (I can draw the 5S, I cannot draw the 6X) I would maybe go down one.

I have been talking with a gentleman from PCH Golf, which may be the same dealer your referenced. Very nice person and answered a lot of questions. After determining that more than likely my average SS is around 95 mph with jumps to close to 100 when the stars align he suggested a 5 SR.

 

Which seems right, I would like to add some distance and the AF 505XX has opened my eyes to what could be and I was leaning to a AF 505X but I like what I am reading about the X wave being less touchy.

 

I hate to take a flyer of this level but of course there is no way to demo one, so once Santa Claus does his thing I may have to try it.

Well if the APEX CB heads sell tomorrow it will be ordered Sat. since that is mad money anyway.

I decided on the 5 SR and when I tried to order it the guy tried to put the screws to me so I bought a AF 505X for $100 less off a dealer on the bay, it will be here right after xmas. At least I have a bit of a starting point with the AF, the XX has actually been working well but I can see where less stiff should be better.

 

If it does not perform as I hope I will find another dealer to buy the X Wave. I can now see that this could be a deep rabbit hole, if the driver shaft does turn out to be game changer I could see the FW's being next.

Did you talk with the dealer i gave or the one you were dealing with?

Sorry as I didn't post this right after my round last Friday.  It was cold, terrible weather and i ended up catching a major cold from it.  
 

We played a scramble and it started off around 42* with fog and overcast.  Fog never lifted and the high was 46* with about 5-10mph winds but t felt colder. I also had on 4 layers and i hate to play with that many as i feel like I’m locked into a straight jacket.   I took out the XW 5S and the GT2 8*.  For being 8* it’s surprisingly forgiving.  Distance was hard to determine as all my shots plugged for the most part.  One guy I play with is usually with me or close on good shots.  I was past him all day and on a few, I was 30-40 past.  I wish the weather was better to get some accurate numbers but I do like the combo of the GT2 8* and XW.  Ball flight is def lower but again hard to determine how much was the 8* loft or the weather.  More rounds to come but so far I really like this combo.

Yes. Told ya this low lofted GT2 8* should NOT be this crazy good & forgiving, X Wave is like nitro into the engine....🚀💥

OK, I was a little skeptical, but I wanted to believe. Now I do. Put the 5S into my AI Smoke TD and hit a bucket of balls with it on the range today. Like the man above me here in the thread says, nothing but frozen ropes. After a while, I started swinging out of my shoes and trying to miss one badly but, nah. Even contacts where you immediately think “oh that’s going to suck” were just slightly weaker pushes or pulls. Nothing peeling away. This is going to be an absolute cheat stick on the course — will take it out tomorrow.

My 6X is fantastic.  Really looking at replacing the adapter on it with a new Cobra adapter and laying into the DS Adapt LS. Have to imagine it is will be a perfect combination.

Finally hit my Personal Best average distance drive today = 285 yards on course GPS measured with the VoiceCaddie T9

 

 

The previous best, back in May last year, was 282 with my Taylormade Stealth 2+ 9* head turned down a notch with the Proxima 5X (which is a DAMN GOOD shaft by the way)

 

I had a feeling the GT2 and XWave was gonna beat it but not expecting it until the summer this year. However, today, the GT2/XWave combo did it and even knocked a couple post 300+

 

 

OH, WHAT A WASTE. This hole calls for a Draw but Silly Ole Me hit a straight push. Turned out to be longest but I snookered myself. Time to pay up and chip out for a 2 putt Bogey

 

Next one is one of my favorite Par 5, been Birdie-ing this hole in the last 2 consecutive rounds but not this time. Damn volcano around the hole robbed the Bird today...thanks Mr.Greenskeeper 🤦‍♂️

Thanks. I thought I was going to have a crappy round yesterday. Its been so crazy at work, no time to hit the range or even to roll a single putt during the week. No gym work either in the last 3 weeks now due to work, 1/2 work days etc

 

And the Saturday morning itself was, I hit like 20 balls going thru the bag and then chatted with my Callaway staffer buddy working that morning. I was more looking forward to the drinks after the round with my buddies than the round itself...lol

 

As I stood on the first tee box, at the back of my mind, I kept the Inner Game of Golf principals and it was like magic.

 

I found a little more extension in my full swing irons and that helped a lot. No range meant a complete review of my core basics. Putting has always been gr8 since my Mezz broomstick (posted on the LAB Mafia broomstick thread) so the day was all about a nice long drive, "feeling out" the 2nd chip shot to the green and let the putter finish the job. 3 birds is pretty solid.

 

Encino is not that hard but it can get potentially ugly as there is a stretch of fairways like #4 & #5 and #16 is OB left but the XWave was just so straight and freakish long that day.

 

Been playing the XWave for a few months now and I can concur it has way less bend than the Proxima 5X. Other shafts, based my experience, it would have been OB or middle of next fairway/road, not even in the same class as the Proxima/XWave

 

Also that day, I decided to tee the ball just a tad higher than normal. Perhaps that helped a bit but it was middled in so many drives...hmmh

 

Anyway, I'm gonna take a break from golf and go ride some mountains on my board. Come back refreshed

Well so much for my vacation 🙄  I cut it short due to the fires ripping thru Los Angeles. My house was at risk due to the Hurst & Eaton fires

 

Anyway, everything is good at the moment, it was much calmer today

 

I did play 9 holes today. Paid for 18 but just uneasy with the Palisades fire visible from the course. I packed it up after 9 but finished with a massive drive 309 & a bird

 

 

Afterwards I drove to visit my buddy staying in a hotel. His family was evacuated last night from Encino

 

He's safe & we had some beers 🍻

 

Crazy how life can change just like that... Oh ❤️ my GT2 XWave... amazing, amazing 👏 🤩

Phew, everything is safe, we are coming to the end of the current Santa Ana winds for now. My buddy got Evac & he's still out of house... biggest worry are the looters but there are National Guards deployed in the burnt areas but still 40 Silly Billies are charged... back to the XWave

 

I was thinking this XWave is super stable and smooth. I cannot fault the feel at all. For the actual numbers I am getting on course, the 5S is a perfect fit. Not boardy at all and I've played some good 2×4 in the past ala PM702s

 

Also my miss continues to be a high push (even on a 8* head, believe it or not) or pull, not hooked anything which is INSANE & my courses. Hooks on some fairways is auto OB... not this XWave 5S

 

Yeah, a lot of serious positives and it's really showing on my course winter play

 

I may throw back the Proxima and see how that gels with my GT2... stay tuned

 

Ps those with the Baby Blue 6X I envy you, coolest color of all 👍

Still very happy with my 5S, too. With confidence in the shaft, I'm squeezing more juice out of my driver swing. My cruising speed has always been high-90s club, mid-140s ball and today in the sim (snowed here in Atlanta a few days ago) I was averaging 105 and 154. My spin has come down too, to the point I might have to change out of the AI Smoke TD head -- averaging 2100 - 2200, where I'd prefer to see 2400 - 2500 given my lowish launch. Could be a convenient excuse to try out a Qi35. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been in the 6X as well but just received a 6S to compare against it. Being built right now and I’ll be able to get some thorough testing done on my GC3 later in the week. 6X works perfect for me but like you I was really curious based on others results

After reading this thread, I picked up a 5S and gets delivered today!

 

Swing speed is usually around 100 and might go up to 100 and change when I'm loosened up mid-round. After being away from the game for around 12 years, I currently play off a 12 handi but I lose 3 shots per round via my drives according to Arccos when comparing to a single digit handicap player. Driver is the weakest part of my game. Typically hit a fade with my miss going way right. Currently gaming an OG Ventus Blue 6S at 44.5. I think I'm gonna game this at 46 inches and go from there.

 

A LAB DF3 putter changed my putting completely 6 months ago and I dropped 5 shots off my handicap just from that switch. If the xwave gives me any fraction of that result, I'll be really happy!

Well, due to head weight of the g440 max it swingweighted at D7 which just isn’t very playable for me. I just got a reduced weight in it and plan to try tomorrow playing a few holes with my son. Will report back tomorrow or Thursday!

Looking forward to the results.  Yeah Ping always seem to come in much heavier than other drivers but this years 440 is really good.  I have the 440 LST but only hit 10 balls at most.  Just really like the Elyte TD , Qi35 LS and surprise pick the Adapt LS.  I hit some absolute rockets a few weekends ago with the Qi35 LS and X Wave.  I need to get a new Cobra adapter so I can test the XWave with it.  Cobra changed the adapter this year, which left me stuck for a while.

I did try with the qi35 LS that I have and it was just too low spin for me. I’m admittedly on the low end of the spectrum baseline - so that’s not a good pairing for me. Hoping the 440 max nails it

I think you should be good with the Max.  I tested a GT3 with the X Wave and it was borderline low for me but then hit the GT2 and it was in the sweet spot.  Just haven’t gone back as I haven’t played much and I had all the other heads to test.  The GT2 with XWave is def one of the top contenders.
