Kind of in the same boat, having great sucess with the AF 505x and would love the try the Xwave but not sure where I should fall flex wise. I really think a AF505 straight in might give me more distance so I would lean to the 5 SR in the X wave but the 5s also seems like a closer match the 505x and I hate to loose what accuracy I have for a few more yards and $600

I would say 5S should be fine.  A lot depends on your transition but with you already playing the AF, I would assume your transition is smooth.  I wouldn’t worry about dispersion, the X Wave is the best shaft I’ve hit for dispersion.

I’ve got a 6S in the X Wave and I’ve been really impressed with it so far. Considering the comparisons with Autoflex, I love how the X Wave just feels tighter.

I’m going to put it through a few heads tomorrow(Ping G440 Max, GT2, QI35) to see if I can find a better combo than the Elyte Core and X Wave.

Been keeping an eye out for a 5s but not much on the secondary market. Just not a lotnof them in the wild yet for people to tinker with.

Been loving the 6S. Going to test in a GT2 head soon and see how it compares to my 440 LST.

Per many of the above, I had to loft down to 8* from 9* to control spin. Going 1* flat also took the entire left side and miss out. Buy a pack of head weights too to really dial it in.

Also have a 5S on the way. Play the 6S & 6X just fine but curious to see how the lighter shaft feels.

I've been debating trying one in a fairway for a while now. I may have to pick another one up to try it.

I was told if you have the same tip that will work in a fairway, just choke down and try it with no tipping in a 3 wood. 5 or 7 wood, I'm thinking it will need a little tipping.

Well looks like I’m the guinea pig.

The LAGP shaft I’ve been using has very similar specs to the Xwave.

Am going to test tipping the 6S to 3 wood specs for my GT280. Going to tip trim 0.5” and leave it 0.5” long in case it needs more.

For the people who want to know about tipping for a driver and especially tipping for a fairway wood shaft.  The OEM does not recommend tipping on the driver but since the shaft is parallel on the tip section, you can tip up to 1/2 inch on the driver without having to go up a flex.  That then gives you the stiffness of going up a flex but still keeping the weight down to be able to swing a little faster.

For a fairway wood, the OEM has seen people with slower swing speeds use the same flex and weight as their driver and just butt cut down to length and tip 1/2 inch.  If your a stronger player and have faster swing speeds, they have seen people go up a flex, butt cut and tip 1/2 inch for best results.

I’m a bit nervous to put this into a fairway, as then I’d have to buy a bunch more X Waves as I know how good the driver shaft is.  😂. Seriously, I’ve not had much time to play or practice lately with work and my short game and irons show the results.  However my driver is still the best part of my game.  Does get me upset that I’m 280-290 down the middle and then I can’t hit the green with a short iron or wedge. 🤦‍♂️

really love the look of the 4X and would love to test it out but so far, nothing is beating my 5S.

X-Wave 6S Driver at 45.25" - Still playing and testing. AF is in the bag currently as I just switched heads from Ping to Titleist.

New Tests with Titleist GT280 & GT2:

X-Wave 6S trimmed 0.5" for 2w/3w at 43" = Will try in my GT280 13* and GT2 13.5*

X-Wave 6X trimmed 0.5" for 5w/7w at 42" = Will try in my GT2 18* & 21*

Comparing both of the above (for my swing at least) to:

  • Autoflex SF505XX
  • LAGP Black Tie 60x/70x & Trono 65x/75x
  • Ventus Blue 6x & 7x
  • Mitsubishi 1K Black & Blue 65/75
  • HZRDUS 6.0 & 6.5 60/70g

Will give em a rip tomorrow and the next few days.

Ok, couldn’t wait.

Hit them tonight, and then made a tee time for tomorrow morning.

GT280 with the Xwave 6S is incredible. I can hit other shafts the same distance but the extra stability allows me to control flight and yardage much better.

It’s a bomber now when I need it or high softy. It’s much more repeatable.

For the Xwave 6X, taking the 18* GT2. Same story. High flight and really long.

The bonus part is that due to the weight balance of the shaft, I was able to increase head weight in both clubs for a little more speed and forgiveness. Added 2-4g per club to D1 which felt like the sweet spot. Less weight brings in pulls, more increases steepness.

Each adapters are set to A1. No other changes needed just a few head weights to get flight dialed in.

Both spots in my bag have had my gamer LAGP shafts that I’m very familiar with for the past few years.

If you haven’t hit the GT280 or GT2 woods, don’t pay attention to stated loft. I can get the GT280 at 13* up to 110’ with 41* descent. All the weight is down low and these can get as high as you want.

Quick Follow Up:

Played Newcastle - China Creek yesterday. Plenty of opportunities to hit both the GT280 and GT2 18*.

Hit the GT280/6S off the tee on #4, #12, #14, and into the green on #1. Smoked it all day. Long and straight. I may have two or three buddies picking up this exact setup now to replace their 3Ws.

Used the GT2/6X off the tee on #3 and into the green on #8. The shot into #8 was 245, came down soft into the green and rolled up to 10'. One of those unforgettable shots, the best fairway wood shots I've ever hit. Missed the eagle putt lol.

These are staying in the bag - get your length and SW right and let the club do all the work.

Another TWIN sighting in the wild...

2025-06-2113_18.21small.jpg.545a3b60646937a1391cf5e7f9f6311c.jpg

Top driver: my Titleist GT2 8° paired with the X-Wave 5S

Bottom driver: @My2Dogs Elyte 3D 10.5°, also rocking the X-Wave 5S

YES — we both played a full 18 at Balboa GC right here in Los Angeles.

It was fascinating to see two very different driver strategies in action. I’ve got the lower-lofted GT2, and M2D’s swinging the higher-lofted Elyte 3D — and let me tell you, the difference was crystal clear. I started decent, played the front 9 better than the back (brain f*rts were in full bloom).

One thing was undeniable — M2D is LONG & consistent at it.

2025-06-2216_05_13.jpg.321915e80883fcc062d26b265eb74d51.jpg

So above is my short tracker for the Par 5 3rd hole. Mine was a slight push right, at 307. M2D landed center, just past the bunker under my shot on the screen and I estimate at 317

Both of our drives were solid, but his gave him a premium angle for the second shot, even with trees protecting the green. I had to work a fade with a 7-iron to get in position.

M2D was a model of consistency. I started well and then mid round, had my usual swipey low hooks and two toe-shot brain farts — my Achilles' heel when the focus drifts. Would have been a disaster if not for the 2nd shot saving me from the fire and eeking out the Par from a looming Double. Or worse.

At the end, I think both of us walked away with 2 birds each. M2D could have easily added 4 more to that tally

Still, it was an ABSOLUTE BLAST playing together, drink some beers and watching each other’s games up close. Also M2D has not slept for 36 hours, he was high on the coffee & Gatorades and still a model of consistency. Not bad. Not bad at all 🍦

No doubt—if M2D’s in town and can carve out the time, we’ll be teeing it up again.

Always a blast, and awesome to finally meet a fellow WRXer in person. 👍

🍻

Another TWIN sighting in the wild...

🍻

Loved playing with my brother from another mother.  You are def a monster on the course and especially on the greens.  X wave can handle many type of swings and speeds!  Can’t wait to play another round with you again.

I def ran out of gas today as I only got 5hrs of sleep in 3 days and played again this morning at a beautiful course in Yorba Linda (Orange County) called Black Gold Golf Course.  Up and down the hills, multiple level changes and blind dog legs.  Driver and X Wave def helped me a ton today.  Just got back from a work dinner and now going to take a 10hr nap.  Lol

I think i have been the only one who hasn’t been able to get comfortable with the x wave. Feels too stout for me (6S). And my aretera blue has been lots out.

I have a proposition. I want someone else to have a shot at testing it out and providing a review. If anyone is gaming a Ping head, i will ship it to you, just pay the cost of shipping. Only stipulation is that you should test it out and add your review here.

Do you still have this shaft? 👀 I’d love to give it a run in my Ping G440 Max.
