Titleist surefit adapter broken/no longer clicking into shaft

Hit a drive yesterday off the heel and noticed the adapter all of a sudden felt loose in the head. Didn’t hit it again, but now when I try to screw it all the way in, it just turns; there is no click to indicate the shaft is secure.

 

Saw some other posts about the the thread in the adapter breaking, but had never heard of it happening while hitting a shot. 
 

i assume I’m screwed (no pun intended) unless I buy a new adapter and replace the current one? Club head (tsr2) goes on my other shafts fine.

Are you referring to the screw spinning?  Possible that the screw threads are stripped.  I’ve seen this happen many a time in the Titleist fitting cart when someone didn’t know what they were doing and cross-threaded the screw when tightening the shaft into the head.  If you can get out the screw and it’s the culprit, you can get replacement screws.  If it’s the female part of the adapter that is stripped, then you’ll need to get a new tip installed.

Is there any resistance when  you try to tighten the screw?    Is turning the wrench actually turning the screw?   If it's getting tighter but not hearing a click - the problem could be with the wrench is broken.  Or for that matter - if the part of the wrench that goes into the screw is not turning when you turn the handle.   Never hurts to try a different wrench.

 

Have you taken the shaft out of the head and actually inspected the adapter?

 

But if the screw keeps turning and it doesn't get tighter it's most likely either:

1) threads are stripped

2) adapter is broken

3) the screw is broken.

 

If it happened due to impact, I'd more likely suspect #2 or #3.   And only #3 might avoid the need to replace the adapter.  

 

But regardless you have to separate the shaft from the head, and the screw from the head, and then inspect the adapter and screw.   Then if there is no obvious damage to the adapter or screw, test the screw in the adapter by hand without the head in the way.   If you're not sure what to look for, take pictures and post those here.

Hopefully it's as simple as the wrench is broken.  I have had several Titleist wrenches fail over the years.  But if not, Stuart as laid it all out above.

It’s definitely the adapter on the shaft. Head works fine on other surefit shafts I have around.

Reviving this thread...a friend has a GT3 driver and it rather consistently comes "loose" - head doesn't fly off, but it certainly isn't locked on to the shaft any longer. I have a GT3 as well and swapping the shafts out, mine never has an issue. Additionally, the questionable head has more resistance when trying to swap shafts. It had done this before so we swapped out the set screw and it is continuing to do the same.

 

Is there anyway in which there is something going on in the head to cause this problem? I would think it would have to be an adapter or set screw issue - but when it happens with every shaft and those same shafts work fine in my head I am at a loss.

 

I'll call Titleist on Monday, but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on it. Thanks!
