Opinions on St. George courses

Planning our second trip to Mesquite / St. George area.  Last time there we played Wolf Creek twice (loved it), Sand Hollow (loved it), Copper Rock (liked it) and Oasis Canyons (meh).  We were staying in Mesquite on that trip.

 

This time around we'll be staying in St. George.  We'll play Wolf Creek on the way up from Vegas and likely play Paiute Wolf on the way out.  That leaves us 4 rounds in St. George.

Sand Hollow is a definite for us.  Black Desert is very likely a definite (we'll be going in April, after the must-stay-there-to-play-it goes into effect - so as long as the lodging price isn't super high, we'll stay there and play).

 

With the help of packager suggestions, I'm thinking our two 36-hole days will be:
Sand Hollow and Sky Mountain 

Black Desert and Ledges

 

I don't know too much about Sky Mountain and Ledges, so I'm curious about people's opinions on those two tracks and Sky Mountain, in particular, doesn't seem to have generated many comments on this forum.

I've lived in St George for just over a year now. Of the courses I've played in the area, I would rank them as follows:

• 1 - Black Desert - I'm playing here again next weekend. It's worth every penny. 
• 2 - Wolf Creek - Played it four times now. Silly, but worth the hype. 
• 3 - Coral Canyon - I know people will say that I'm insane for rating this higher than Sand Hollow, but I just really love this course. 
• 4 - Sand Hollow - Obviously high on any list. 
• 5 - Copper Rock - I've only played it once, but I liked it so much. I might even move it up the list after I play it again. I do think it's a bit overpriced. 
• 6 - Legdes - I love this course. If I had to call any of these my "home course", this would be it. 
• 7 - Oasis (Palmer) - Just played here today! Really fun track, but can't help comparing it to Wolf Creek, which it can't hold a candle to. 
• 8 - SunRiver - I like this course more than I should, but I'm also biased cause I shot one of my best rounds ever here! 
• 9 - Sky Mountain - Fun, but overhyped by locals.
• 10- Southgate - Good muni, but meh. 
• 11 - Sunbrook (Blackrock/Pointe) - Also kinda meh. 

Obviously, I still have a bunch of courses left to play and this just reflects my personal preferences, but there you go! I could also do a Vegas list, but it would just be tons of praise for Reflection Bay, which still stands as my all-time favorite course, followed by all the regular courses that people like there.

We're going out in August and are playing the main ones: Black Desert, Sand Hollow and Copper Rock in St George, and Wolf Creek and Conestoga in Mesquite.

 

However I need help on which course to pick for our last 2 rounds (one in each town)

 

For St George, seems like our next best options are: Ledges, Green Spring, or Coral Canyon. I could try Entrada but don't know how receptive they would be to 8 guys (we would not stay on property). It would be a weekday which could help, and I could have a guy have his local club pro call. Or we could play Sand Hollow or Black Desert again.

 

For Mesquite, I think we are between Oasis Palmer or Falcon Ridge.

 

Anyone have any thoughts on either of these questions?

I've been to Mesquite/St George 7 times I think, both guys trips and with the gf.  Lots of fun options in both spots.  I really enjoy Coral Canyon, good desert layout with some elevation changes.  Not as dramatic as the back 9 at Ledges but more consistently an interesting layout.  A few quirky holes like most courses in the area.  Sky Mountain is a solid muni with a great backdrop, again some funky blind shots due to the terrain.  Typically play both of these plus Sand Hollow and one other upper tier course while I'm there.

In Mesquite, after Wolf Creek the Conestoga course has grown on me after 4 rounds there.  They know it, it's gotten pretty pricey almost $200 when I was there in 2023.  Coyote Spring back toward Vegas is another very solid track.  These two are better than Falcon Ridge or the Oasis courses imo, although I don't avoid any of them.
