Imo, SAS is a merely a shock jock like TV’s Wally George in the 80’s who works hard to get sound bites & then screams to get attention. He was a mediocre athlete at best & is not qualified to comment on most sports, let alone golf. Therefore, in a contract year, he’s just trying to say controversial things to maintain relevance/ratings, so I’ve been turning the channel whenever he’s on 😂

I used to feel this way about him until I actually started listening to him at length and listening to some in depth interviews with him.  He’s actually a really smart, thoughtful guy with a very interesting back story.  His on camera persona is a bit brash, but behind it is an intelligent guy.

 

BTW, the clickbait here is that article, not his take quoted in it, which isn’t even a hot take.  He stated the obvious and actually understated it a bit.

SAS was clearly not a math major or his spreadsheet was broken for calculating ROI. 
 

Trying to make it in football or basketball is statistically impossible, especially if not given the genetic advantages of being tall, huge, and athletic. Yet, one can be 130 lb, slow, and not good any other sports & still be a top junior or college golfer. Add to that all the underrated curry advantages & great programs like first tee, and it seems to me there’s a better path in golf than other sports. 
 

But I digress - bottom line is SAS is all about self promotion & figuring out “sound bites” to create more attention to himself. Smart people know that his opinion on most topics is no more valid than the next person.
