New Ping Moonlander Stand Bag Sighting! With pics

Recommended Posts

My navy/red/white Moonlander finally was delivered.  Came direct from PING and took awhile.  Weighs 4 lb 6.75 oz, so pretty much 4.5 lbs as advertised.  It's definitely more minimal than the Rover Stand which is what I'm looking for.  The top diameter is smaller, and the bag is much slimmer looking.  However, there is way more white than I was expecting, I think it's the white webbing that isn't visible in the stock photos that makes it more white.  So not a fan of the color and will be returning.  Might go with the black, or just stick with the Rover Stand.  The search continues.

Man….looks great with the rest of your set-up. Do bags come from Ping via Fed-ex? I think they use fed-ex exclusively right?

Yes, FedEx Home Delivery.  Shipping transit was fast, just didn't ship from PING until 7 calendar days after ordering.

I am leaning green/navy but that does look sharp!

If you pull the trigger, post a few photos with it loaded up. I’m not generally a fan of green, but actually think it looks great how it goes with the navy. I’m super picky so I was surprised that combo caught my eye.

I can confirm that the rain hood is NOT in the hip pad. There is no hip pad in this bag.

This bag feels like a modern version of the L8+ that they released about 8 years ago. It looks and feels similar to that bag, and if I didn’t know any better, I’d say it was built on the same chassis.

It does balance incredibly well, and is very comfortable on. It also looks very sharp.

I would say that the top anecdotally feels a little smaller than the top on the CEL. That said, it feels like every other Ping bag I’ve ever owned—well built and durable.

Love the setup. I think I’m going to pick one of these up. I have a jones trouper, but I’d like to have a more minimalistic stand bag since I walk 90% of the time. What brand is that range finder case? Looks slick.

Thanks! It's from a brand called Sentinel Golf. Pretty expensive for what it is, but I've burned through so many Bushnell cases I just went for it.

It reminds me a lot of EDC carry from alpaka. They actually have an X pac pouch I thought about trying to use.

If not too much trouble can you please share how it compares to a Sun Mountain 2.5 — basically which one would you use if you had to pick one?  I currently carry 11 clubs and hoping to get down to 9. I ordered this in black over a week ago and it still hasn’t shipped. Currently using a GFORE lightweight stand bag which I love. It’s made by Sun Mountain and it’s a cross between a 2.5 and a 3.5 (essentially a 2.5 with good straps). Wondering if I should just keep using that and cancel my Moonlander order before it ships. Thanks!

Every single color in the moonlander has a “yeah, but…” Even the black has a yeah, but it’s all black.  It’s really unbelievable.

They haven't arrived up here in Canada just yet but will do!

Leaning between the navy/green and black/red.  100% buying one though!

Will rattle off some thoughts

-2.5 is about 1.5 lbs lighter (3 lb vs 4.5 lb)

-2.5 has full length dividers, Moonlander about 3/4 length dividers

-Moonlander straps are better and require minimal adjusting

-2.5 has more traditional pockets

-2.5 has zero tangle, Moonlander will tangle for sure

-Moonlander has a sleeker look, which may appeal to a minimalist approach

-Moonlander material is similar to the 2.5+, but a bit thicker.  It's not the typical PING polyester that I was used to from the 2022 Hoofer Lite.

Functionality wise it's the 2.5+ hands down.  Looks wise, I could see going either way.

Agree - thanks for this response. I have 2.5 and do love it - but its almost overkill for the 9 clubs I'm carrying this winter. But after trying the Jones Rover carry - I'm going back to the 2.5 for now.

It was on the PING site and could be added to the cart.  Other sites indicate March 2025.  Sounds like PING fixed the glitch.

Agree on overkill, feel the same for my 7 club setup.  Would love to see a shrinked down 2.5.  Same pockets and 4 dividers, but just scaled down like 20%.

Looks like an updated L8 to me. My L8 weighs 4.8-5 lbs (w/rain hood), and was very comfortable to carry with ten or so clubs (driver, 7w, 5i-pw, sw, p).  Eventually the L8 wore through the fabric in a couple of places where a hip pad should have been; looks like that may be an issue on this new bag as well. I eventually replaced the L8 with a Titleist Premium carry (but didn't like the fold-down legs) and I'm currently using the (recently discontinued) Moonlite.  Unfortunately, the new 2025 Moonlite has been downsized significantly, probably won't accommodate more than 8 or 9 clubs, and is single strap (which I can't use due to shoulder issues). I thought the old version was perfect.

I guess I just don't see the marketing rationale for the Moonlander.  It's not that different weight-wise from the Hoofer Lite and the discontinued (due to durability issues?) Craz-E Lite was a much lighter bag.

Same reasons you mentioned.

Bit disappointed with Moonlander and its weight. Been using a SM2.5 and had no complaints.

However, saw a Moonlite over on Classifieds and picked it up for $50 on a whim.
Used it this past weekend and it was really good.

Believe it or not, my excitement faded once I got the bag and loaded it up. I thought it was minimally less heavy than my hoofer - let alone a hoofer lite. Plus it has way less storage. I just couldn't justify keeping. I will most likely invest in a SM 2.5+ as it truly has a noticeable weight difference from my hoofer and also has a full length pocket.

Putter: Ping PLD SE Answer 30, 33 in

I picked up a Moonlander in all black.  It's exactly the type of bag I've been looking for, but a pretty niche market and I'll be surprised if it sells really well.  I wanted a really compact, double strap stand bag with a range finder and water bottle pocket but minimal pockets otherwise and didn't care if it weighed the same as my Hoofer Lite.  I also like the smaller top as I find my clubs don't bang around as much when I'm walking.  I think I'm in the minority on all of that.  Most people will think the bag isn't light enough or that it doesn't have enough storage for how much it weighs and that the clubs are hard to get in and out, even by Ping standards.  It's a winner for me but I don't think it will check enough boxes for most others.

Just ordered a Flextech Carry to try as a bag for my 7 club setup.  Seems like a similar size to the Moonlander, but with a more practical pocket setup.  Will report back and compare to Moonlander.

Honestly, your description is pretty spot on to what I am looking for. I have a Jones trouper, but was looking to have a smaller (less bulky) 2nd bag. I walk 90% of the time, and really don’t keep a whole lot of items packed in my bag. I pulled the trigger last week, and should receive it shortly!

Flextech Carry Premium? I think the Premium comes with double & single straps, but the "non" comes with just double. I was seriously considering the Premium but it was $$$ for just a range / par3 bag I was looking for.

No, the 'regular' version with double strap.  Not a fan of the pleather material used on these 'premium' bags of late.
