New Ping Moonlander Stand Bag Sighting! With pics

Recommended Posts

Where they missed on this bag is not having a stow-away rain hood like they do on all their other carry bags.  I know no one else does either but as a minimalist, I hate having to shove a rain hood in a pocket that ends up taking a lot of usable real estate.

This is the first iteration of this bag and hopefully they'll make some improvements in the next few years.  Rover Stand seems like a better move or a Stitch from Costco for $69.97.

Totally agree with this. Not sure why they didnt just add a pocket/hip pad like on the hoofer model. The new pioneer (cart bag) even has a pocket for the rain hood.

They look the same, but can anyone confirm that the straps are the same as on the hoofer lite? Also no concerns issues with lack of pad for back?

I picked up a Moonlander in all black.  It's exactly the type of bag I've been looking for, but a pretty niche market and I'll be surprised if it sells really well.  I wanted a really compact, double strap stand bag with a range finder and water bottle pocket but minimal pockets otherwise and didn't care if it weighed the same as my Hoofer Lite.  I also like the smaller top as I find my clubs don't bang around as much when I'm walking.  I think I'm in the minority on all of that.  Most people will think the bag isn't light enough or that it doesn't have enough storage for how much it weighs and that the clubs are hard to get in and out, even by Ping standards.  It's a winner for me but I don't think it will check enough boxes for most others.

I’ve never understood the need for “storage” in a carry bag. What are people carrying?

Haha, good question.  I have more than enough storage space in my Moonlander.  I could even stuff a rain suit in one of the pockets if needed.  I probably use 1/3 of the storage space in my Hoofer Lite and never feel like I've left something behind.

They seem to be the same straps, however they have different connection points on the bag so the balance feels different.  Not bad, just different.  With the Hoofer Lite, the moment I put the straps on it feels perfect.  With the Moonlander I felt the need to shimmy things a bit to get comfortable.

I received the TM Flextech carry 3 way bag (non premium) today.  It's exactly what I've been looking for as my primary bag for my 7 club setup.  It's sleeker and smaller than the Moonlander and the pockets make way more sense for my needs.  Straps and balance are perfect.  Just wish it was a PING bag as I don't carry any TM clubs and I'm a PING bag mark.

It could, but I don't think I'd use it for 14 routinely.  Most rounds I'll be carrying 7.  If I carry all my clubs then I have 11.  Great size for my needs.

I still like my Stitch bags. But this Moonlander best feature to me is the hard plastic handle at the top and I have  experienced zero club tangle.  I always liked this white model of ping bag. But it’s beat and they are hard to find now. The Moonlander is a great update to this bag.

Do these pictures include all 14 clubs. Doesn’t look overly crowded in the bag. Thanks for posting.

Decisions, decisions.  I walk a lot at my home club and I’ve got two bags. I’ve got a hoofer lite that is all black no logos and a vessel vls. Vessel is a warranty replacement from my first one. Durability isn’t the best if you walk a lot but it’s a great bag from a pocket/design. I will say though the Vessel team is very helpful though.

I basically found the logoless hoofer lite on eBay and being a ping guy I snatched it up so now I alternate between the two to save wear and tear.

My only gripe about both bags is the damn water bottle holders. I’m old school and prefer the Gatorade bottles. Ping used to make water bottle holder on top of the ball pocket. Which is now where range finders go (which is also a feature I like)

However the moonlander has a way better water bottle holder. All that to say for those that have bought the moonlander are you going back to hanging the range finder of the side of the bag?

I feel like it’s a decision between looking sleek and hiding range finder or going thirsty lol

If you feel like getting rid of one of those I’m definitely a buyer. Love all black and I just returned my vessel Sunday looking for one size up.

I really do enjoy the Moonlander.
I still have my L8’s.  Great bags just get club tangle sometimes. Somehow I’ve kept the legs straight on these.

Totally agree.  Some people seem to pack like they’re going away for the weekend.  I always laugh when I see someone with a super light carry bag and then they’ve got five pounds of bag tags, towels, range finders, club brushes, etc. clipped onto their bags.  And then like a dozen balls in the ball pocket.

If I’m using my Players 4 Carbon bag, I’ve got max three balls in it.  If I lose three balls, I’m quitting the round anyway.  And no way do I ever throw the rangefinder in when I’m using that bag, or bring my phone with me.  I’ll either use my Garmin watch for yardages or just read the sprinklers/yardage markers as I walk past them.

That’s an option! But at my club if you aren’t done in 3.5 hours or less it’s a b1tch fest! So searching for a sprinkler head to pace off would be a challenge  Lol. Kinda kidding on pace but not really.

I just recieved this bag.  It is PERFECT.  And I have no idea why Ping is saying 4.5 lbs.  Somebody screwed up in marketing.

it's 3 - 3.5 tops.  Waaay lighter than Hoofer Lite.  I did not weigh it, but that is my perception comparing to Titleist Carbon etc.. (which I own).

Doesn’t surprise me.  My 2022 Players 4 Carbon weighs 3.5 lbs with the strap on and the rain hood in the bag.  And this bag does not look heavier than that bag.

Clip an Approach G12 to your bag and you can really move fast...

I have the Flex Tech Lite, looks very similar to yours. Its a great bag. As to the logos, mine was a club order overrun and it only has the country club logo on the ball pocket.  If I find another like it, will buy and keep as a spare.
