Sun Mountain 2.5+ weighs right at 3 lbs with the straps and rainhood.  PING provides the most honest weights, Titleist is the worst at this in my experience.

Kind of baffling to me they didn't include a hip pad, yet the retail sites selling this do list a rain hood...

I'd like to get my hands on one in-store before I make my choice between this or finding a CEL.  (I'm coming from an older 4Series; still think the Hoofer Lite is the perfect size, but the current colors leave a lot to be desired)

Nooooo not the CEL! I really like that bag and I’ve been shocked by the durability. Maybe I can pick up a non neon color for cheap before they’re all gone. 
 

@gkmunch agreed on the current colors. I like the old branding that just said ping better without the “hoofer light” listed below it.

Navy Moonlander on order for me

My moonlander is supposed to be delivered today. I saw them a few days ago at Golf Galaxy, and I have to say I'm a little on the fence about the zippers. They're the very chunky, plasticky zippers. We'll see how they go. After a quick inspection, though, I do like the pocket layout.

So the spine pocket is only water bottle, correct.  Side pockets are balls and clothes.  Where is the rangefinder pocket mentioned in the features?

That's right. I think that the rangefinder pocket is also the valuables pocket? If you remember the valuable pocket that the old Hoofer 2 used to have, it's in the same location—sort of on top of the right side pocket (if you look at the bag so that the spine is facing you).

My guess is the rainhood is still in the hip pad area and will serve as the padding.  PING's description lists a rainhood and on the stock pics you can see the snap locations and hook that holds the elastic from the rainhood.

I can confirm that the rain hood is NOT in the hip pad. There is no hip pad in this bag. 
 

This bag feels like a modern version of the L8+ that they released about 8 years ago. It looks and feels similar to that bag, and if I didn’t know any better, I’d say it was built on the same chassis.

 

It does balance incredibly well, and is very comfortable on. It also looks very sharp. 

I would say that the top anecdotally feels a little smaller than the top on the CEL. That said, it feels like every other Ping bag I’ve ever owned—well built and durable.

Looks like the Ping version of the Jones Rover Stand - looks good.  Interesting how these minimalist bags are becoming more popular encouraging walking.

 

Where is the rainhood?  In one of the pockets?  Anything on the "rangefinder pocket"?

I order one from a Sugarloaf Social drop last year. Fore Ewe made those.

While really nice, mine is already starting to split and get holes as the yarn will wear over time.

The rain hood was loose in one of the bigger pockets, so you can certainly move it around if you like. 

 

Ping doesn't explicitly call out a pocket as the 'rangefinder' pocket, but the valuables pocket (the one in the photo I have open) is certainly deep enough to fit there. There's also a slit pocket on the left side that's sort of part of the ball pocket, that's about the same size as the all-mesh pocket that the most recent MoonLite had. You could fit a laser in there, but it could be tight.

The moonlander has me very interested. I have a winter 9 club setup and have been working to confirm the correct bag for it. I have a SM 2.5, but don't like having 4 dividers for 9 clubs. I took a chance on a Jones Rover - and its a decent bag - but not sure its for me. I've interested in the moonlander and the TM FlexTech Carry Stand that only has three dividers. I love that three divider setup for 9 clubs.

I am also looking for a small set bag (7 clubs).  Down to the Moonlander and Flextech Carry as well.  Neither in stores near me so went with Moonlander based on known PING reliability and online images.  Currently using a Rover Stand and it's just ok.

I just bought a regular Rover in the blind sale - and it’s a solid bag but not sure it’s quite right for me. I wanna give it some play on the course before I make a final judgement. Excited to see reviews come in for the Moonlander as I feel like that is likely a better fit.

I agree. I had a Mr. Ping Hoofer Lite that looked pretty dirty by midseason so I’m leaning toward getting the black one.

I was in the same boat. The white is great in the dead heat of summer, but it can definitely be a bear to keep clean in the shoulder seasons.

Of those two, I would choose Moonlander.  If you're to open to suggestions, you should also take a look at Sunday Golf's Loma XL if you're strict to 7 clubs or their El Camino model if you want to occasionally carry more.

I'm also gaming a Rover Stand.  My experience has been overall pretty good.  Love the styling, balance and carry are great, and I really like the 3 way top.  The pocket layout is just weird and the stand could deploy faster. 

 

If I was in the market now, I'd take a look at the Moonlander but the styling of the Rover Stand still puts it over the top for me.

Order in for a black moonlander. Couldnt get myself to order any other color, but excited for the bag!
