When playing with a group of friends, no matter where they are on the hole, when they're lining up for the par shot (i.e. 4th shot on a par 4, even if they're 200 yards away), we whisper like a commentator, "this, for par".

Not really sayings but quotes/sounds that are golf related.

 

"Get there!" - From the movie swingers when he leaves his 15 ft putt 5 feet short.

 

"Goodbye!" and "Thats in the sand".  - From the old video game Links386.  Lots of great sounds from that game

 

My buddy and I still use Nintendo NES Golf sounds.  "Beep beep beep" for a birdie and "buzz buzz buzz" for a bogey.

When playing with an elderly chap at my old club in the UK,  I pushed a really well-struck drive right and the ball ended up behind a tree.

 

He called it an Arthur Scargill: good strike, poor result.

I was lucky enough to play Pebble Beach a little over 10 years ago.  I was playing with three other gentlemen that I had never met and we were having a grand time and our caddie was quite entertaining and he kept up a fun banter with us.  The weather was less than great but it was Pebble, so life was grand.

 

One of the gentlemen had been struggling most of the day but his chin was up, and he was getting on with it, and smiling his way through it.

 

Standing on the par 3, 12th  he asked our caddie if could get home with a 5 iron.  Our caddie looked at him with this serious face and said "eventually".

 

I laughed at that the rest of the day.

I had a couple of stone cold chip shots from gnarly and thick greenside rough that ended up less than a foot away from the hole during my AM Tour golf league tournament that allowed me to save Bogeys on the Par 4 - first and Par 3 - fifth from the front nine at Eisenhower Park - Red course last June 8, 2025.

 

I leaned on my Dolphin Running Wedge (39 degree loft) again to bail me out and enabled me to cruise to a 4 stroke win for my 4th win of the season.
