These are bad angles, didn't look at them until after the range.


I'm stuck and my ball striking is getting worse and worse. I don't have one swing thought or feel I can fall back on, there's too much going through my head.


I had a lesson about a month ago or so and I tried to recreate the drill/feeling I was given and I just can't.

I went through a couple years fighting that problem. Other than swinging very easy, nothing really helped until… I went to lighter shafts. I’m still a little toe side but now very playable. I still pull it when I swing hard but again, very playable.

Unfortunately, I don't think new shafts will fix all the issues with my swing.

Have you tried? If drills aren’t working, you may need something else. I know I did.

I don't think it's so much that drills aren't working. I have no idea what to even work on or what drills I should be doing. The last lesson the pro laid an alignment stick out in front and had me try and get my club head going down a straight line at and through impact to combat whatever OTT move I was doing. It went great at the lesson, no joke, the best strikes I've ever had. I can't do it anymore. It's just gone.

So, this literally just happened using one of the clubs I had reshafted last week from KBS tour 120s to MMT 105s. First shot after warm up and gapping my 7w & a couple 5h’s. 
 

 

Just my one off experience after struggling for several years hitting almost everything off the toe and getting super wipey cuts. I’m incredibly optimistic about my future ball striking potential. Never hit the ball so straight in my life.

Just by looking, it doesn't appear you are loading the lower body enough. You should feel the power load in your right buttock. That load needs to be released and left leg straightened way earlier, before impact not after. It's a timing issue. Your lower body isn't getting through quick enough.

 

The lower body should be strong and drive the swing. The only reason your arms should be swinging is because of that powerful lower body movement.

 

Research ground forces. Three areas need to be loaded. The hips as mentioned and the inside of your right foot on the backswing and the outside edge of the left foot on the downswing. You are pushing down on the Earth to create a powerful lower body movement.

 

I've been spending the last couple months working on my swing and l have very few swing thoughts now. I have a position at the top I'm getting into, but it's all lower body driving the arm movement. I would start with researching the ground forces. Good luck!

I am unbearably hard on myself. I'm a stubborn bastxxx. I won't let myself believe I'm anywhere near good enough at golf that equipment is my problem. But, I'm 40 now,work a desk job, have kids, back and knee injuries. My set of irons I had before my current set had Nippon 850s which are 88 grams. I played those because that's what was in them when I bought them. I ended up loving them. I bought a hybrid later on that had the Nippon 950s (95 grams) in them and it was my favorite club for a very long time. My current set of irons, which I was fit for, have KBS C taper lites which are 110 grams and honestly have always been a dud in feel for me. This is the first time that I really want to be experiment with weight and see if there's an improvement. Might be time I realized that I might not be strong enough anymore to sling those heavier weights around.

I have been down the ground force rabbit hole before and I never really got it. One of, if not my biggest issue, is that I have never been able to consistently get onto my lead side.

 

Here's currently how my 'weight shifts'

Start by loading into my right heel. I try to get all my weight onto ball of my lead foot then try to drive down and pull my trail side through the ball.

 

I have read so many times 'good players don't push off their tail foot' that I try to keep the right side of my body out of the swing except for shortly on the take away.

Hey I get all that. When I was your age I was able to many athletic things. 20 years later the wheels didn’t fall off but they got very rusty. 
 

I have read and received some great advice on this site from StuartG. He stopped me more than once from digging deep into a few rabbit holes. One of his best lessons for me was shaft weight. It’s real. The correct weight changes as we age. 
 

I’m not qualified to know why swings work like they do. I do know the feel of what’s in my hands absolutely affects how I swing it. That’s been a constant since I was a little kid with a baseball bat.
