What is your temp cutoff for golf ?

I don't really have a temp cutoff for golf. I'm Canadian...I'm used to the cold.

It's rain that ruins it for me...so that's what'll turn me away from a casual round.

In upstate NY, if the course is open, I’ll play. Nothing better than starting out bundled up and slowly stripping layers as you play and the day warms up. Feeling the sunshine on your face in high 30s or low 40s in March or late November is the best

It will not be long and the "Cutoff" will be going in the other direction for me. Now the heat and humidity will be a factor. For me anything above 95 in humidity becomes a real sweat fest, especially if there is no breeze. I would rather not.

I don’t really have a cut off. Though I should because summer here can be absolutely brutal. I’ve walked some rounds in close to 100F and roughly 9 billion % humidity. Talk about sweaty gloves. I’m still here though and I’ll still gonna be walking. I’ll probably die on the golf course.

 

the only time the temp truly bothers me is when it is COLD and windy. Our winters are cold and wet so the wind really burns through your clothes.

Temperature wise I think the coldest I've played was 25 and windy. Probably wouldn't go below that. I've played in 100 and 90+% humidity, as long as I have some nice cold water it's fine.

I have played in snow and 115 degree heat. Both were probably about my max.

It's not just the temp, it's the temp + wind speed + sky conditions.  A temp of 30 with no wind and a sunny sky is delightful whereas a temp of 55 on a cloudy day with a 25-mph wind is a no-go.

Honestly, the heat is only part of the equation, at least for me.  Humidity is also a major factor. I can play out here in SoCal when it is in the 90s because the air is dry, but go play a round with my BIL in KY with their summer humidity? 80 degrees tops.

... Growing up in the south then living 42 years in Chicago I played in some chilly but not cold conditions, but 50* was my limit. I moved to Phoenix for the heat and now I won't play below 60*. Thankfully we don't have too many days below that. My heat limit is 113*/114* depending on when I last played and how many future days it will be over that. Seems kinda arbitrary but 115* and above can be a little dangerous and my last time playing at 116* a few years ago I came close to heat exhaustion. I join a course in the summer with a ton of shade, hydrate and ride in a cart after walking fall/winter/spring.

39* at the moment and I'm leaving in 30 for 18 at the course. Hope the winds are down from yesterday. 😉 Thinsulate upper layer, jeans and a quarterzip over the top. Backup chemical hand warmers in the bag.

I played yesterday with the possibility of wind and rain. We were able to finish before it hit but there were lots of players teeing off and on the range waiting to start. I live next to the course and a couple of hours later we had wind, sideways rain, hail and flash flood warnings. I wonder how many die hards tried to keep playing. I’m assuming the course shut down because of lightning 5 miles away but some people are pretty stubborn.

I used to play down to low 40s, but not anymore.  I’m 59 and one of the benefits of retirement is that I don’t have to play in crappy weather anymore.  Plenty of nice days to play golf, and plenty of other things to do during the cold, wind, and/or rain.

It's the rain/damp that my body struggles with rather than the cold. I work on a golf range and have no problem hitting on there when it's down to -3c.

25-95F and that 95 had better not be humid or I'm dropping it 5-7 degrees on the cutoff.

From the upper Midwest, so it’s cold half the year. I tend to shy away once it gets below the high 30s due to fear of cracking my woods. In the upper end, I tend not to play fun rounds once it hits 100, but we don’t get too many of those.

Gotcha beat.🤣 I’ve played in snow and sleet when it was below 30° and one round here in Phoenix when it was 122°.

played one day in West Palm and it was 92 with real feel of 103. My friend and I lasted until hole 16 and looked at each other with the same thought, "do you feel okay". Pretty sure we were extremely dehydrated and still managed to finish 18 but last two holes we played as quick as possible because we were just too hot!

90+ temperature today ... heat index well into triple digits ... enjoyed a nice, empty course.

Came to the realization that there's a top limit for me now.  It's been near or above the 90* and 90% humidity level and my body is not coping well.  I've decided that there's a temp and humidity range that will fit my ideals and that AIN'T it.  😂. I fell apart yesterday after six holes. 7-9 were a disaster and the only reason was heat.  I was lethargic/dehydrated even finishing two bottles of Gatorade in that time.

Played yesterday with a local feels like temp of 116.

Have played in the 20's when the ground is completely frozen, cups full of frozen water and greens that bounce like a parking lot.

Did NOT play today in Southern New Jersey, real temp of 98, with a feels like of 105-106, too old to cope with this anymore, pushing 79 in 3 months, still big & strong, still play the white tees but by the 14th hole I am washed. My every Tuesday group has starting times of 11:00, usually around 20-24 players, probably half that today.
