This is a done deal.

Whenever the “PAC” on tour propose these things it’s not exactly a voting process. It’s a process of saying this is what we’re doing, tough sh*t

LOL! .......If true, totally unbelievable! 2023 was a banner year for the PGAT, now they want to change their product so the top half gets more money. The players have a short memory.... IMO 🤣🤣 Contraction is not the answer.

I wish them well.....

Nothing against the man personally or his career - but he's been hanging around the Tour by a thread for a long time. Perhaps someone who would benefit from decreased competition for Tour status.

But, then again, I may be a moron. You make the call! 🙂

I mean he’s managed to keep at least conditional status for 5 of the last 10 years.

Totally agree. Let's just wait and see if the players are stupid enough to vote for taking away job opportunities.

Ryan Lavner is the biggest advocate for shrinking the PGAT......the players should advocate the reduction of the talking heads on Golf Channel.🤣

I agree. Golf channel would run smoother without his useless takes

I suppose that's what I mean by "hanging around the Tour by a thread."

So whether it's Villegas or others, I think increased competition for Tour status would be good for the game - if not necessarily all of the current PGA pros.

The key is to have a high enough potential turnover rate for guys to get pushed out of elevated event qualification for not performing…so guys who are performing can move up and into qualifying

Otherwise it’s a closed shop and that’s lame.

Gotta give enough “points” or whatever they will use to guys who perform at non-elevated events. And punish guys who don’t perform in the elevated events

I mean there’s basically 2 tours right now. The signature events +the majors, players, playoffs and everything else. Also 19 new players got into the sig events next year so the churn was their (top 50 in fec). I hope the tour expands the fields in sig events to give opportunities to the top 5 kft guys from the previous season

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of 10 WGCs/year.

I prefer the structure of the Tour ~10 years ago, but with the current Fedex Cup format.

Well he’s a past champ so always going to get into the 4/5 opposite field events every year

I’ve spent a little time around Camilo, amazing guy. His game wasn’t in a good spot when he was playing KFT from 2021-2022. He didn’t keep his playing status out there in 2023. All of a sudden he get into Bermuda on his past champ status and wins. The very same event that he wouldn’t get into with these changes.

Funny how things work out….

anyone else finding it interesting that field size is being blamed for the daylight savings cuts on saturday when we've been complaining about slow play being the cause ;}.

It is an issue but players are never going to change up their routines. What’s the next easiest thing to do if you won’t fine players? Reduce the number of players, and that’s what the tour has done

And that's why you don't reduce the players' playing opportunities.....

On the PGAT....... It only takes one week.

The tour’s never gonna do anything about pace of play. It’s just an opportunity for an extended broadcast and increased ad revenue

Sure but Rahm brings corporate interest as well. Sponsors/the tour also want to entertain clients. Would you drive 10 mins to watch Lee Hodges 😂

To be clear my laugh emoji was the first part….Rahmbo certainly hasn’t brought the corporate interest over to LIV has he?

As far as Lee Hodges is concerned he’s part of the “cutting the fat” you referred to? 90th in the world ranking and 52nd for a personal high is the fat on tour?

It seems funny to me folks think that way.  I just read a pice on espn with the NBA top 💯 and the obvious point was these are the best of the best…the stars.

And yet here you are essentially saying they are the fat that needs to be cut if they’re not in the top 50.🤣

Nor was there ever any talk of eliminating the mandatory participation rules.

The Commissioner has kept his job, but at the cost of no longer being a Commissioner. The role seems now largely 'ceremonial' -- he serves at the pleasure of, and as a figurehead for, a very select group of top players-stars.

100%. And each have their own agenda.

To me they need too put stroke penalties in place for slow play.. sorry Patrick you are killing the sport.

Also I believe a lot of them are scared of the young players - Look at an amateur winning while in college.

They have the total package distance and touch!! - these guys don't want them out there so lets implement communism -- the player heading it came from a country that implements it.

It’s funny how many of the changes made by the LIV tour (of which I am decidedly not a fan) which the PGA mucky mucks, players and some media types held up as reasons to dislike - are now the same ones for the new PGAT.

Are we going to see the Formula 1 style “leaderboard” on TV next?

Honestly, what are we talking about? Cutting the number of Tour cards a few places? Not that many Korn Ferry Graduates? An increased number of premier events? Tightening the Tour to make it more attractive? Yes! I think this move is OK.  If a player finishes in the Top 5 of two second tier events and makes 10 cuts out of 25 in the other ones he secures playing privileges for the next year and has over 1 million in prize money. What's the percentage of Korn Ferry graduates managing to keep their cards the following year? There still are enough opportunities to play and make good money for the so-called journeymen. Chucky Three Sticks or Pat Perez have kept their card for over 20 years without winning notable tournaments. And the really good players will find a way to get in the Top tier events and do well there. Compare it to tennis: The 100th ranked ATP player makes around 300.000 dollars in prize money, and he has to travel around the world for it. That's less than the number 10 of the Korn Ferry Tour. The PGA player doesn't even have to leave the USA. Ben Silverman was 110th in FedEx Cup Race 2024. He had one single Top Ten, a halfway healthy cut ratio. He earned 1.2 million dollars. This man has around 35 opportunities to play a game with a ball and a stick for purses over 7 millon dollars. Maybe he breaks through next year, maybe not.  Please don't tell me the PGA Tour is too restrictive in the ways to get there. Yes, it's hard. Yes, you have to sacrifice many things. Any athlete does it. And the PGA Tour provides more than enough opportunities to earn money playing golf. No other individual sport puts out those amounts of money and places to play.

There are thousands of pro tennis players. The top players make millions, and the rest make peanuts. That's the system that the PGAT wants to apply.

Less players won't enhance my viewing enjoyment but more players will give the fans a greater opportunity to see the young start ups. Rory making more bank is of no interest to me. Does anyone really think that by dropping 10-20 players will speed up play on the PGAT? The time slot is booked to 6PM est. anyway.

PS/ Lack of daylight is a scheduling problem. Golf is played outside. Who hasn't had a frost delay or a rain delay at their local course? Dropping players won't stop that.

Just my opinion.
