2025 Golf Trip Help

Considering coming to Arizona in July 2025 for an 8 man golf trip. I know it’ll be very hot but is it too hot to enjoy a round in the morning?

Scottsdale seems like a popular spot with nice courses. What would be some of the must play courses? 

If not Scottsdale then where?

There are a some issues coming in July. It’s very hot. You can play in the morning but have to drink a lot of water and protect yourself from the sun.  Second, you have to be strategic about course conditions. Greens are aerated in the summer. Most courses do it twice and they can take 1-4 weeks to fully heal. A lot of courses do annual maintenance in the summer as well.   There a lots of courses to chose from like Grayhawk, We-Ko-Pa, Troon, etc. Personally, I would not come to Phoenix/Scottsdale for a summer golf trip. You will get better pricing on the golf, lodging and restaurants are slower.

I appreciate the insight. What time of year would be a good mix of decent weather but not peak season prices?

I think the best two times for golf in Arizona are May and September.  Prices will be much better in September, but it will also be a lot hotter.  Prices tend to come down on May 1 from high peak winter prices.

Agree, the best summer season turf conditions are from mid-August thru September.  It's still hot as heck.  Early morning tee times, ride a cart, drink plenty of water, save the alcohol until after the round.

 

It used to be that the trade off for playing in the hot summer was the bargain green fees.  Unfortunately, after the last two summers, the rates have increased to levels that start to tip that balance.

Agree. You’ll pay ~50% of peak winter but high end courses are still $200ish. There are better options for discount cards in the summer for places like Grayhawk and Camelback but often require shorter advanced booking which would make them hard to use for a golf trip unless you are very flexible.

Keep in mind playing early mornings in summer will be very humid (Florida humid) as water will be evaporating from the course.  I much prefer summer afternoon play but I am used to the heat.

The weather will be brutal. Early morning will be humid and hot, afternoon will be life endangering hot. 

 

Arizona golf is good, but the draw to travel there is it is warm when other places are cold. Beyond that there is not allot of draw to be there in the summer. If you are looking for comparable July golf trip for low cost, you have have so many other options in the US.

I’m open to suggestion. Looking for 4 different courses to play in the middle of July. We’ve already been to Nevada, and Michigan. What state next

Not sure where you are coming from... but Canada? you will get $1.40 for $1USD this would bring out some crazy great value places to play and July is the prefect time to visit most parts of the Country. Given you were looking Arizona, I would go west coast then, and you can play in British Columbia, great options around Kelowna and Kamloops or on Vancouver Island. Kamloops would be very cheap. You are going to be able to get a package with a hotel and round per day for around $200 a day CANADIAN, so under $150USD. You would get to play some excellent courses - Sagebrush, Predator Ridge, Tobiano would be good places to check out. If you want to mix in some more average places you can bring down the price. A little more pricey to visit Whistler, but with the exchange rate you are still doing good. If you want the bigger city vibe, Vancouver is great to visit with some pretty nice courses in the area.

N Nevada/CA in the Tahoe area has some great options and weather in the summer.
