2025 July Golf Trip Help

Hello,

I’m looking into a golf trip for 8 guys in July and was thinking of Montana. 
We would love somewhere with 3 courses in the area but could settle for 2. 
One spot would be Montana Wilderness Club with Indian Springs course nearby. Does anyone have any experience staying at the Wilderness Club or golfing there in July. 
Would love any other suggestions.

Yes, there is a pretty extensive thread here on the Wilderness Club and other parts of northwest Montana.

 

I have spent a total of nearly three weeks staying on site and playing 18++ every day and highly recommend it, especially because next summer (2025) is the last year before it goes private. The course is really, really good, and the weather in July is pretty much guaranteed to be perfect. It's also light until about 10:30.

 

I also think the course is compelling enough that you won't get sick of playing it multiple times. Can also add in a round at Whitefish (play the south course) on the front or back end.

The cabins are great and modern. The food service has generally left something to be desired--we usually cook our own dinners. But maybe it is different now that Escalante is pumping a bunch of money into it.

The course is really good and worth a visit. I played while on a family trip so a little different but I think a group of eight might get a bit restless there as there isn't much in the area or much to do other than the golf.

 

I might look at having Whitefish as your home base and then determine if you want to drive the hour and play Wilderness Club for the day, maybe stay the night, play again the next day, etc. That might be the better way to go. And given how remote it is, I think it's worth a couple of rounds minimum. I think I played my rounds mid-week and it wasn't very busy.

 

We stayed in a suite, right across a small service road from the dining, pro-shop, range, practice green, 1st tee, etc. Quite nice to walk right out to it all.

 

There's not much for dining and I don't think the hours go late but we found the food to be quite good. Overall the service was good with everyone we interacted with.

 

There are plans to build out the community but not sure how far along they are. (My visit was two summers ago).

@WigglI am probably late here, but I wouldn't stay on site.  The cabins look nice enough, but not much happening for 8 guys in Eureka unless you are there during the Eureka quilt fair.

 

I would settle into Whitefish instead.  I would definitely play Wilderness because it really is a great course as the photos above show. 9 is a little hinky, but other than that one hole, it is a very good golf course.

 

In Whitefish you can try to get onto one of their munis (or both).  The South course is more difficult and longer, the North is more the classic tree lined course, small greens, etc.

 

Northen Pines is a good course, it really is the tale of two nines with the first being pretty open and the back being more tree lined and quite a few of the holes run along the valley bottom.  For the price I think this is going to be your best option.

 

Buffalo Hills? Played it once 25 years ago and haven't been back.  Kind of a hokey set up, and the same could be said for the course in CFalls.  It was such a bummer I don't even remember the name of it.

 

But if you settle into Eureka, you won't get the opportunity to play these others.  Whitefish has a pretty good nightlife since it is a tourist attraction there will be lots of folks out and about. Lots of fern bars, fancy eateries, bars, etc.  My friends always want to do one fancy meal and they like the Boathouse at Whitefish Lake Lodge.  There is also a nice seafood place on the way up to Eureka you could hit on the way back to Whitefish if you finish around dinner time (reservation will be required I suspect).  And don't sleep on the restaurant at the Whitefish Golf course.  They lease the restaurant to an outside entity and many locals will tell you it is the best food at the best price.

 

July weather will be great.  Maybe highs in the 80's and we get very little rain after July 4th.
