After 14 rounds I’m finally out. The ZX Utility is too chunky and has a touch too much offset for my tastes. I couldn’t keep the ball low into the wind when I needed to pierce it and the sole was too chunky when I needed to loft a shot into a par 5. Trying the Mizuno 245 in their place instead with my long irons.

earlier before the year i said my bag was set. since then I've changed between many shafts. to humble brag a bit i went VF6tx, VF6x, VF5x, ventus black 5x, diamana WB 63tx, Ventus blue +, repurchased a VF 5x, now i'm in a TR blue 6x. 

 

O, I also changed 3wood shafts from TP 7x, Tensei 1kpro blue 70TX, and now DI 7x.

 

worst part is i feel i haven't tried enough to find the perfect match.

Changed my entire setup, multiple times, this offseason and the past few weeks.

 

The below reads like a complete degenerate, golf nut, but I'm slowly emptying the garage and narrowing it down.

Titleist T100 - Love and hate. Great rounds, terrible rounds. reshafted from AMT X100 to AMT S300. Gave up. Sold.

Miura Baby Blades - Love. Great to look at, great to flush, would never game them. Sold.

Miura MB 101 - Love. Not good enough to play them but just beautiful when you pure them. Sold.

Miura KM-700 - reshafted from Oban 115 to MMT 125S to MMT 105TX to MMT 105S to PX 6.0 LZ. Gave up. Sold.

Mizuno JPX 925 Forged - liked but never loved. reshafted from DG Mid 115 to MMT 105TX. Gave up. Sold.

Mizuno 245 - liked but never loved. reshafted from DG S300 to DG Mid 115 to MMT 105TX. Gave up. Sold.

Cobra 3DP - like a lot, still working on testing.

Titleist T150s - love.

 

Wedges:

Taylormade MG4s - They're good.

Mizuno T1 - They're also good.

Titleist Vokey SM10 - They're very good. Vokey needs to figure out how the hell to put a proper coating or sell us Raw finishes for less.

I'm not exactly sure what "scruples" are in the context of the BISC, but it warms my heart to see that so many of us lack scruples and really don't have a realistic shot of gaining scruples. We are definitely each other's tribe.

I don't post here much, but here we go, I suppose.  12 rounds in, nothing has changed since last year.  Only one club changed since 2024.

@Dan Drake I thinnk I need a ruling. Are we still in if we remove a club from our declared BISC? I rarely hit my 9w and don't hit it particularly well so I am going to pull the shaft and put the head up for sale. I won't be getting anything to replace it.

@Dan Drake can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you are still in as long as you don't replace that club in your bag with another club.

Yep, this is one of those rare instances where the committee has a little bit of kindness on our poor souls.  You are allowed to remove a club as long as you don’t replace it with anything other than itself.
 

Technically Your bag is not set, so I don’t know why this is allowed, but hey, I don’t make the rules!

I was one club (driver) away from really being set, I really could've made it this year. 

 

The weird part is that I'm considering making a couple of changes just to see what sticks. Right now I'm using a Ping G25 driver and a Taylormade SLDR mini driver, which are both 2014 models. Both are performing well, but I feel like I need to give some other clubs a chance to kick them out of the bag before the end of the year so I won't have the itch to try stuff next year. With the new crop of mini drivers this year, it seems like the perfect time to audition a few.

I thought I was pretty set too, but I've made so many changes. Now, in my defense the bag will mostly stay the same, but I've probably made close to double digit changes. In my defense, a lot of that is swapping a club out, or going out with a backup bag, or trying a minimalist setup, then going back to my main bag. It's kind of annoying feeling like your bag is pretty much set, yet there's those one or two spots that stick in your mind.

What is at risk:

Just had to replace the driver head (TSi-3 face cracked in August) so this is probably safe, but a TSR2 swap might be in the cards.

4W: Probably safe, although if I hit a GT2 I might get swayed.

7W: Probably most in danger - been searching for a shaft and if I get a hold of a GD-DI this is the most likely to sink me.

4H: Oldest club in the bag but with the GD-DI it keeps producing.

Irons: Safe except might go to the 125 in the PW and maybe the 9i.

Wedges: Always in danger but I doubt I will actually find anything better for me.

Putter: The Scotty has earned a permanent place in the bag, probably the safest club this year.

 

I might actually get some of the mentioned changes done before an actual 2025 round, so hard to predict an actual failure date.

Put my daughter's old Srixon irons into play (lie/loft adjusted back to stock). Also changed the driver shaft. So now I am playing

No, but I think my goal this year is to "set" my bag around Thanksgiving and give myself December to address any issues. The last 2 years I made untested changes late in December that took me out, so I need to make sure I don't repeat that pattern for next year.

It’s definitely worth having a few spots locked in early, there is always something to test or could be better. It should be easy!

I just spent money for no reason on the part of my bag that I use the least - the hybrid/wood area. I dropped a hybrid in favor of a 7 wood and went with a longer shaft (for me) in my 5 wood.

I highly doubt that I’ll change my irons, wedges, or putter this year. The highest possibilities for me are replacing my 5 wood with a 3 wood or changing my driver to a G430. That being said, I tested the LST last year and did not see an improvement, and I think the G430 Max (from what I’ve read) is spinnier than what I need.

 

Prediction: I’ll make it until August 

 

I'm now pretty confident that I'll make it through the season with this setup. My driver has gone from a liability to the best part of my game, so I would be pretty stupid to make a change there. I had thoughts of putting a 12 degree driver head in my 5 wood shaft and getting rid of the 5 wood, but my fairway finder driver swing has been working just fine.

13 of my 14 clubs have survived this year pretty comfortably. My driver and mini-driver are the only clubs that I am considering changing, I just need to make sure that I don't wait until Christmas to  decide on something.

Thought I'd check back in to see how everyone is doing, and I'd rate this as "meets expectations".

 

On a positive note, I am well underway to succeeding in the 2026 BISC challenge.  

 

For the first time ever, I have been very deliberate in purchasing clubs, and have invested the time in getting them adjusted to my specs.  This investment in the right clubs for me (versus a specific brand or deal) has been revelatory, and I'm hitting levels of consistency I haven't had in years. Am genuinely putting together a bag I can play for quite some time and be happy.

 

If I can get my putter figured out, 2026 will be a win even before it starts, LOL.
