What driver combo you ending the year with?

I know some of us change drivers a lot.  What combo head and shaft ended up in the bag this year?  

 

Guess I should say what I have.  

 

Titleist GT2 10* with a ventus blue plus velcore 6s. Have a two way miss and it's killing me. Might get a gt3 10* head instead? 

 

Ping g430 10k 9* tour black stiff.  Was going to sell to a friend, but debating keeping and changing shafts. 

 

What are you most looking forward to next year or are you not changing?  

 

Interested in the gt3 head, new g440 and srixon zxi driver for next year.

Ending year with smoke triple diamond max 10.5 set to -1. Ventus black 6x.

 

But I bought a qi10 9* and have a ventus black 6x in it too. 

 

Have had the smoke since callaway released it. Very, very good driver. But qi10 is faster. Need to see what it has.

Ending with two that get swapped in/out alternately…

 

TSR3 10 (in D1) with a 44.5” Aldila Rogue Silver 130, 60g, tipped 1”

 

BRNR 13.5 (down to 11.5) with a 43” Aldila Rogue Silver 130, 70g, tipped 1”

 

Didn’t start the year that way but am pretty happy with both. The only thing I’m hoping to change is the user error.

Swapping back and forth between Blue TR 6X and Diamana WB 63TX. Each day one shaft works better than the other, and it's never the same 2 days in a row!!

 

 

I'm looking forward to getting a GT3 for this next season...ball speed and dispersion have been what they claimed to be, and I've tested it twice now LOL. Not sure why I won't let myself buy one yet.

Ended the season playing a Cobra Aerojet with a Fujikura Atmos Blue Tour Spec. I'm cheap and hit it pretty good so I don't expect that I'll be changing it for next year.

I've swapped it in and out. Somehow I get some left pulls with that combo. Might just be the adapter setting needs adjusting.

Ping G430 10K 9.0 turned down to 7.5 with Ventus Black+ 7X....will certainly dabble in the new G440 lineup and the new Srixon stuff always piques my interest though

Ending with what I started with for the first time in a long time: TSR3 with Ventus Black 6x.  The only change this year was moving to a midsize grip with a couple extra wraps.  

 

As well as I drove the ball this year I should stay with this set up but I did swing a buddies ventus blue velo+ and really liked the feel, so I may dabble.

Ping G425 with Hzrdus Blue 6.5 75g shaft.  I've had the driver head since mid-2022 but I made a shaft change in early-2024 to go with something heavier, which lines up well with playing my driver at 43.75 inches.  My average driving distance went up 10 yards this year, my dispersion is more centered, and my penalties went from 14% to 6%.

 

I don't plan on making any changes in 2025 as I think that the spin profile and forgiveness is right where I need it.  I took the G430 LST to the range and there were no changes in ball speed vs my G425 Max.  It seems like spin is somewhere between where G430 LST and Max sits, and I think that's a good spot for me.

Ping g430 max 10.5 with ping tour black 2.0 65x. This has been by far the most consistent set up for me on course. Even swings where I feel like I pulled it off the earth left its just 10 yards left of fairway.

Given all the X flex shafts in the posts to date, I wasn't going to post, but what the hell. G400 Max 10.5 with Alta CB 65 R flex played at 44", no tipping. I have a Ping Distanza shaft (senior flex) I am going to play at 44" over the winter, but need to buy some heavier head weights to bring the swing weight back up.

The shorter length has improved dispersion and a bit of length given the ball goes straighter.

9° G430 LST turned down to 8°. Rear weight I'm currently tinkering with the position. TPT Nitro 15Hi Shaft. 

 

It's not the fastest, I'm sure if I get a TSR4/GT4, Smoke TD or Black Ops Tour-1, I could probably see a few MPH more club and ball speed. But it controls my spin so well, my low ones don't fall out of the sky and my spinny ones are not outrageous.

A lot of those X flex's can't keep it on the planet. Your G400 Max with the Alta is still the gold standard.

G430 Max 12* with an old Miyazaki Kusala Black 61X ... all year long.

 

Late in the season I bought a Ping 10K in 12* and 10.5*,  and also ordered new GT2 11*  ( all now tested and sold off )

Sticking with my G430 Max 12* ..... its long enough and plenty accurate, didn't experience much of an advantage with 10K or GT2 (  I'm only 95 swing-speed ).

 

Though I did just buy a G430 Max 10.5* head at WRX that I'm waiting to test out next week, to see if the bit lower launch, probably a bit lower spin, and maybe added run-out might amount to something.  But if it is not accurate as my 12* then ....

Started and ending the season with a TD smoke 10.5 w/a diamana ZF, A combo I would not have picked if I didn't test it.  But man it's been good.  I haven't even looked at another setup this season.

I'm "only 95 swing-speed" too, thinking about trying the 10K model soon, compare it to your G430, any noticeable differences flight, feeling, etc.

This year has been a really bad driver year for me 😅 I have change alot this year and I will probably change next year again

 

Started the year with Tsr2 with RDX Black 60s, change shaft to x stiff. I want to like Titleist drivers but spinn is to high.

 

Then I did get a Taylormade mini driver with ventus blue 70x, this combo was awesome. But I wanted a change.

 

Finish and my current gamer Aerojet LS with Grafalloy ProLaunch Platinum 60x

GT3 10*, turned up in loft with the slider weight out towards toe, with Tour AD VF 6 stiff. 

This combo has taken away the quick hook and I can now even fade the ball.

Numbers are in the 2200 spin/ 13-14* launch with 160-162 ball speed. 

So its slightly low on the spin but trying to keep my misses a little thin rather than too high on the face. 

I guess I needed a stiffer butt and mid section shaft and dealt with launch via loft. 

 

Came from TSR 2 with an Accra TZ6 stiff and would have too many super low spin toe balls>>>>>LEFT!!!!!

Here in So Cal, there’s no end of the season, just the end of the year. Rinse and repeat.

That said, I’m very happy with my old guy slow swing speed special.
Titleist 12° TSr1 driver playing at 44 1/2” Grafalloy Prolaunch  Blue 45A shaft.

Most consistent driver setup for both distance and dispersion I’ve found.

No Mizunos in here yet so I will be the first:

 

Mizuno STZ 230 9.5* standard setting with LIN-Q Red Stiff. 

 

I was talking to a Taylormade Fitter when they did a demo day at our club (just talking, I wasn't hitting anything) and he was looking in my bag and surprised that I had a stiff shaft in my driver but X in my irons (granted, they are Fuji Axioms 125X which don't play particularly stout). He felt like with my speed 106-109 MPH, I was giving up some control by playing a stiff shaft. So now I have been mulling that for about a month now and tempted to pull the trigger on a Ventus Red (non-velocore) X shaft just to see if I like it. Feels stupid to just take a flyer like that but hey, I am dumb.

Started 2024: Tsr3 8.0 w Ventus TR Blue 6S

 

Ending 2024: GT3 8.0 w Ventus V+ Blue 6X

 

I made the S flex work but have really figured out quite a few things in my driver swing this year as far as lag/speed goes. Dispersion has been great so far - obviously not perfect and still learning the new shaft and head, but man this combo is great. Long as ever and buttery smooth.

Flight is little bit lower.  You'll notice a different sound with the carbon wrapped crown.  Also be aware of the total weight of the head if you're just going to swap in your gamer shaft as the 10K will be noticeably lighter with its stock weight ( mine was ).  I used a 34g weight along with lead tape under the weight to match exact head weights of my G430 Max 12* head.  With the shorter face height, I had to be sure to tee the ball a bit lower as sometimes I can get steep, then easier to hit a pop-up with the 10K.

 

I remember when I just got my first 10K , I put on 3 garbage swings and shocked how straight the result was.  But in the long run, for me, not any straighter than my non-10K.  Give a 10K a go, ya never know where the magic may come from.

Yesterday, I  found the Srixon in a used bin at my local golf store for $169 and it’s in really good condition. I took it to the range. It’s quite long.  I think it might be a seriously underrated driver. We’ll see.
