Well I feel like  a complete mook now after reading this thread. I hardly ever even visit the equipment section of GolfWRX.

 

I've started and finished every season since 2010 with the same driver,  It's a Titleist 910D3 9.5 degree with a Diamana ahina 72 gm stiff shaft.  It was and off the rack replacement for my Ping G2 driver.  I kept cracking the faces on my G2's.  I loved that driver but after three of them joined the choir invisible I tried the Titleist.

 

Why keep it so long?  I guess laziness or comfort is part of it.  The driver goes where I point it and I'm still long enough to score pretty well.  I still like the smaller size of the D3.  I've demo'ed a couple of drivers at the local Golf USA over the years, and they all looked like frying pans down by the ball.  It's been a few years since I tried hitting anything else.  The last one was a few years ago and it was some Ping driver.  It sounded dead and was just a couple of yards longer than my D3.  Plus, it was down right ugly.  Looked the the south end of a northbound mule.

 

But.......I know it's time to upgrade.  I need an entire bag of clubs as my irons are now non-conforming.  I guess I hate change.  My irons are fine for me.  They just aren't legal for competition anymore. I find it amusing that someone would see my irons in my bag and believe I have some unfair advantage.  They would more likely believe I'm an idiot.

 

I have no idea what driver I'll settle on.  I've never been through a real club fitting of any kind.  Back in the day I just tinkered with stuff like shafts until I liked the ball flight and feel.  But it's a brave new world now.  I'm trying to find a fitter somewhere in Texas that does fittings outdoors on grass.  Turns out that's a rare thing now.

 

I'm actually somewhat terrified of actually getting fit for clubs. What if it turns out I've been an moron all these years and I could have made it through more qualifiers and made more cuts with better equipment?  

 

Let the heckling begin!  I probably deserve it.

Started with TSR3 Hazardous Black 6S. My son needed an upgrade so I ended up ending the season with GT3 AD VF6X. It’s taken a bit of tinkering but really starting to dial it in.

Played most of the past year and a half with a 9^* Rogue ST Max LS and a Ventus TR red. A 10.5^* AI Smoke Tactical with a blue Velocore+ will likely take its place, but we'll see. The verdict is still out.

I started with driver 1 being a SIM MAX D 9° lofted down 1 clicik with a diamana pd 50r in it and driver 2 a SIM MAX D 10.5 lofted up 2 clicks with a project x riptide cb 50r. 

 

I ended with the same heads but swapped the shafts around. 

 

Overall I'm happy with driver 1, but might look at something for driver 2. The new Tour Edge Exotics has me really interested. I'm really thinking about getting the C, swapping the weights around, lofting it up and putting the weight in fade. First though I want to swap the grip on driver 2. I've never been particularly sensitive to those sorts of things, but since getting an oversized grip on there I haven't been swinging it as well.

Qi10 core 9°@8.25 with a Ventus black 7x. Don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I bounced around a bit during 2024, using a 300 Mini or BRNR with assorted shafts, to a SpeedZone with Phenom NL 60X (44¼"), and finally finished with my King LTD with HZRDUS Black 75 6.5 at 43½".

 

Tend to prefer the minis as I'm less inclined to the bigger clubheads, but started having left issues when my driver swing was misbehaving.  Thought it best to return to the LTD, which has treated me fairly well.

Was in the Qi10 core but got rid of it when I realized that I hit my old Sim2 Max better.  Ended up in a GT2 9 turned up a notch with a Velocore + red 6 S, and have been loving it.
