good destination golf course between SD and Tucson

I am trying to get a weekend trip together for me and my buddies and our wifes/girlfriends somewhere between San Diego and Tucson. Timeline is sometime between now and mid Jan. Preferably half way between these 2 locations. I am in Tucson and a bunch of my buddies are in San Diego. We would like rent a house with a pool, so the ladies can chill while we are golfing. Or maybe a hotel with decent amenities for the ladies. Though preference would be a vacation home rental. It would be nice if there was a couple of good courses nearby so we could check out different spots each day, or one place that had multiple 18's. 

I looked at Yuma, but didn't see alot of options for good golf. Thinking maybe Havasu? Or do I just bite the bullet and drive further and we go to Palm Springs?

There is zero btw those 2 locations.  The best you could do is go to Rams Hill - only one course, but you do have the Salton Sea and the area for other activities.  But that is all that is in Borrego.  Otherwise, like you noted, palm springs is it.  

 

I would throw out an out of the box option and consider going to Rocky Point, stay at the Mayan Palace, play the course there which is outstanding and you are on the beach, the resort has a spa, you can make the drive into town, etc.  But that is not really a "middle".  But neither is Palm.   

 

Personally, I would just go to SD.   If they need to get out of the city, then go stay out near Maderas and play there, you have a few courses to drive to from there and you will find plenty of nice homes (should) to rent.

Thanks for the input puttnforthe8. I might talk to them about Rocky Point, it is on my list of places to go. Looks like it could be fun, we could do some fishing also.

Not into going to SD, lived there off and on for 30 yrs same as my buddies. We are looking to go somewhere different. I was hopeful there was some cool desert location that we could meet at and get away from the norm.

Having myself just been in Yuma a few weeks ago and posted some info on the courses, you are correct, skip it for this purpose. Havasu isn't really any better for golf either, maybe even worse.

Rams hill scratches that itch imo

I think Borrego has at least one other course. Don’t know if it’s private. Regardless, I’d have no problem playing several times at Ram.

De Anza CC makes public tee times available but it's ridiculously overpriced in winter for what it is, $170-$190.

Oh dear. Never played it but have driven around/through that course several times eying real estate. Pretty pedestrian looking IMO. Those fees seem silly. 
 

I’d go Rams Hill all day and twice on Sunday for that money.
