Maltby TS3/TS4 combo? Anyone?

The more I read on these, the more I am considering them.  Full set of TS3s.  But then saw the prices and considering a set of TS4s as well.  Love a nice set of blades to use every once in awhile.  Obviously a combo is best of both.  Anyone using a Maltby combo set?

I built a set of TS3 in 8-gw and am bout to combo that with the 6-7 ke4 max.

When mixed sets with TS4 are brought up, Brother CWebb likes to point out the TE Forged+ might be a better fit, for the closer visual similarities.  It's only a very-slightly higher CG than the TS3.

I've got this combo! More specifically I have an entire set of ts3s, but ts4s in the wedges and 9 and 8 (don't ask why i stopped at 8 instead of 7 or whatever, it still befuddles me). I don't mind them but there's something about the ts3s that is not great for me, have really found that the ts4s outperform their counterparts from the ts3s. Maybe I'll pick the rest of the ts4s soon. At any rate, can't really go wrong. I just found the ts4s to spin a bit more as well as I could manipulate flight a little bit better, which I preferred. Can't really go wrong. 😅

Probably because the 8/7 was traditionally where a combo set was split

Bumping this thread.  Grabbed a TS3 7 on here to demo and so far I’m liking it. Thinking of doing 5-7 TS3 and 8-PW TS4. My miss is towards the toe. Anyone have any updated thoughts?

The profile and appearance of the TE+ is a more direct match to the TS4 for a combo set.

 

Unless you want the thicker top-line "meatier" look of the TS3 for your longer irons.

 

Also, if you think the TS3 is the right fit, consider the whole set.  Could always just start with a Pw or 9i to see if you like them in a higher loft iron

I have TS3 in 4-5 iron, TS4 in 6-GW.   Originally was going to go all TS3, but the TS4 are very forgiving for a "blade" and are really a great looking club.   The fitter thought the CG would be too low for me in the TS3 in the short irons, but hard to say unless I hit them both in the short irons, which I never really did....

I went TE+ in the long irons, because they  look exactly like the TS4 at address.  I could have easily went all TS4's I think. TS4 is incredibly forgiving on toe strikes.

Is the sole on the TE+ milled like the TS4?  I just got a set of TS4s and maybe looking to swap out the 5 iron

I’ve built a couple of sets of ts4s comboed w te+ in long irons, very nice looking set, and work well together. The TS3s are better inmho as a standalone set.

I asked about this in the big TS2 thread.  Based on the advice I got there I built a TE+ 5-7 and TS4 8-GW combo set and couldn't be happier.
