Cave Creek/Carefree

Just booked our annual Scottsdale golf trip for February.  This will be our first time staying this far north.  Any recommendations for restaurants/bars/after round drinks in the Cave Creek/Carefree area?  I'm sure we will hit up Buffalo Chip, Hideaway, Horny Toad, etc.  Being from the Midwest we appreciate a good dive bar.  Any smaller casinos or bar slots in the area instead of having to Uber all the way to Talking Stick?

Unless some bar is running illegal machines, Talking Stick is the closest casino. Slots/video poker and table games are only legal in tribal casinos in AZ.

For nicer dinner, Keeler's is really good. Nothing crazy pricey but better than bar food. If you want good breakfast or burgers go to Big Earl's Greasy Eats. Oregano's has good pizza. You pretty much have all the good bar/restaurants above with your list and Harold's.

Zipps sports grill has locations all over the valley.  Good food, lots of sports on TV, great staff at most. Burgers, pizza, sammichs etc.

Except there are none in Cave Creek / Carefree.

And most Zipps are terrible! With Terrible service and dirty buildings.

You have most of them in Harold's, Buffalo Chip, Keelers is great family owned place (know their son), Horny Toad. Keeler's also own Liberty Station just up the road near the Boulders and is a good spot as well. I also really enjoy Janey's Coffee and Bodega, great spot to grab a beer and hang out for live music. Raven's View to the east of Desert Mountain is great spot for wine and views.

The opposite of my experience at Zipps

Zipps is great. The worst thing is food in the basket but whatever. It is exactly what you expect from a sportsbar. Cheap food that is pretty good and 2024 cheap cold beer.

Zipps circa late 90s was absolutely amazing. Watched every Tyson PPV fight at the OG on Via de Ventura. They had the best breading in the world on their chicken strips. Once they hit five locations everything changed. Goldies is still pretty solid though and while I'm not a big fan of CBCB (food sucks) Famous 48 is fairly decent.

I spent a decent amount of time at the Via de Ventura Zipps and a lot of time at Goldies especially during the Nash/Amare Suns era. My local bar was 100th Street Zipps which I watched too much sports at. That being said, I'd never go to Zipps to say the food is amazing, but it is a bang for the buck bar. Wings are decent. Goldies definitely has better food.

I randomly enjoy CBCB... like once a year I want just a solid burger from an unassuming sportsbar where I can sit in peace with my wife or friends to keep an eye on a game and that's when I wind up there. I think they have decent enough burgers. I'm never going to recommend it as a place for people to go to but there are worse places you can wind up at lol 

 

Zipps has decent enough wings I guess.

I don't think so. Harolds or Mt View pub have tvs and bar food.

That’s what I thought….just wondering why all these posts about Zipps, and others not in cave creek.  😉

If you find yourself looking for a little better meal with actual good food, Kiki Rae's in Cave Creek is a solid option.
