New LAB GEARS shaft

My thoughts are that the gears shaft is the worst shaft offered by Lab. Stiffer than the Accra with no feedback. Maybe it works better on a sweeper, but not standard length. Just look at the resale posts, almost all are gears shafts. The TPT shaft is stiffer but with superior feedback. I would rather play the steel shaft than the Gears. And yes, I have tried them all. Multiple times on multiple heads. I have been a Lab user since the Directed Force and have putted with every release since then.

What grip are you using with it?

haha, love the honest opinion.  My Gears shaft arrives tomorrow.  Will be curious to see how my judgement compares to yours.

I hit a few putts with an Oz with a gears shaft but don’t have a long term review or experience with it.  I thought it felt fine but after having used Lab putters with Accra, Gears, and TPT, I actually prefer the stock steel.

haha, just goes to show everyone has different preferences.

Ok, initial first 9 holes with the GEARS putter and I really didn't love it.  Maybe it's just so different that it'll take time to get used to but I thought the feel and feedback were substantially lacking compared to the TPT.

That being said, I didn't putt bad with it.  So there's hope.

Now have to look at if you putt well with it can you make the feel a second thought?

Usually putting well and feel go hand in hand.

I've used the same gamer for the past 5 years or so (since around the time we were talking regularly about putters).  That putter just has a KBS ct tour 120 shaft in it.  Gives good feedback.

Bumping this thread. Any more experience with the gears shaft out there? There is some tour use of it (fowler, M.Kim). I just don't want to pay the extra $225 for TPT if the gears is still quite good. However, I'm seeing some say they really don't like it.

IMO if you're getting a DF3 then the TPT is worth the upgrade.  Not as much on the smaller putters

Kind of agree here. Played both Accra and TPT in both DF3 and oz1.i - can say I like the TPT better in DF3, on the fence with the OZ1.i in terms of which one feels better

I'm probably not good enough to notice a difference anyway...

Man, I was missing a few putts this weekend. I've always assumed it's because I wasn't very good at golf.

But now, with all the hype, L.A.B. has clearly shown that my putter head and shaft are really the problem. A new head and proper shaft cost about $700...according to L.A.B.

I'd argue they are selling a $30 lump of metal on the end of a stick to absolute chumps - and the chumps are lining up to buy it.

So, I continue to ask anyone and everyone to prove me wrong. In that endeavor we can select from the following questions:

What's the price tag on  a putter that ensures that every ball goes in the hole?

Is purchasing a new putter head at $500 enough? Or should I pair that head with a $450 dollar shaft?

If I try that and it doesn't work, should I buy another $450 dollar shaft and try that? Or, should I lay out $500 for a "fitting" at Lab's headquarters? I'm guessing that both, along with an additional outlay, may be warranted. Perhaps I can get a personal lesson with the clown that features in L.A.B.'s marketing? That guy with the afro and flat brim cap seems to know everything about golf. What might it cost to get his insights?

I'm looking for that "iron-clad" guarantee that is promoted in your content. You guarantee that we will make more putts with your product.

Just curious on how much will your "guaranteed" putter might cost? $30k?

Or is it merely a marketing chimera that L.A.B. uses to fleece their customers?

I'd suggest the latter.

I've been all over this board about putters. I feel like I can chime in on this as well as anyone...

I've tried all-in, pxg m16, kbs gps, and various steel shafts. There is a big, big difference in feel when you head down the composite side of things.  Some of them reduce ballspeed off the face, some of them feel firmer than others...there is no "get this shaft, it's the best". I dont feel that any of the composite shafts perform any better than a kbs ct tour. I do believe that all.of them perform better than most stock steel.shafts. I've seen that myself.

If I Had a choice on LAB putters, I'd put a $40 ct tour in every one of them. Best value when it comes to slightly better performance over stock steel. I went with the Accra in my oz.1 because I didn't like lab's stock steel.shaft...at all. And they dont offer the ct tour.

As for the putter itself...LAB is really, really close to better than superb...

I never liked the OG DF. It was stable...but so we're other high moi putters. A buddy got the df3. I rolled it. I couldn't believe how the ball started online EVERY SINGLE TIME. But that head was also too big. Enter another buddy who got a mezz. Good looking putter but I didn't care for it. Then he got an oz....and I rolled it...

Then I got an Oz. From 10 feet and in, it's better than any putter I've tried...but marginally. Im a pretty solid 10 and in putter. So differences are either glaring or so small that trying to align improvement with the putter is anecdotal....completely.

However, get to 20-40 footers and this oz REALLY shines. The face just stays square to the path so much better. It's really noticeable on longer putts where the face tends to rotate more with traditional putters.

So, what's that magical price point? This oz is the most I've ever spent on a putter....by double. However, what big seeing in just a very brief amount of time is the ball burning edges in long putts. That suggests more are going to fall. It suggests this putter very well could improve my putting by 2 shots per round.

If that happens...$688 was cheap.

All I can say is that I've seen the same claims with Rife, See More, Scotty, and others.

All that L.A.B. is doing different is upping the price tag.

And yeah, if spending $700 on a putter provides some kind of psycho-somatic response where you are making more putts - just go ahead and ride it out.

Experience tells me you will be the first person to jump on the new "bandwagon" when it appears.

Over the course of that time, your putting statistics and score will probably remain roughly the same.

I have zero argument with that take...I could barely make myself press the "pay" button on the lab order because of most of what you said. My experience says putters have a set amount of makes. Then you have to buy more makes...lol.

But, this one is doing noticeable things that no other putter has done. Im cautiously excited.

I spent a decent amount of change for a custom "made in USA" DF3 with TPT.  Is it technically the most perfect putter I've ever had?  Yes.  Is it beautiful?  No.  It shouldn't bother anyone how other people spend their money so long as it's not causing harm.  No need to buy one.

This is how I felt after getting my first Bettinardi. Many of us have been there. And yeah, ride the wave. I hope it lasts a long time.

I hope that you have a long and productive relationship with your L.A.B.

All good brother.  I don't mind supporting a company hand crafting putters in the USA.  There enough room between haters and fan boys for me to fit in.

But yes, I suppose "edgy" means not taking the predominant line of argument?

Everyone loves L.A.B. right now. I think they are a gimmick.

Only time will tell.
