January phoenix golf trip - good & affordable public courses - close to Chandler

I am planning a 4-5 day golf trip in January to phoenix area, and prefer to stay at chandler. I need recommendations of 4-6 good public golf courses that are below $200 and within 20-30 miles of drive. Thanks in advance!

In prime season those parameters do no equate.

 

You will need to settle for average to below average golf to get it under 200 or travel longer distances or pay more than 200.

 

If you don't want to travel to far you will need to look at Power Ranch, Dobson Ranch, Bear Creek, Foothills, Superstition Springs, Kokopelli.

If willing to travel a little farther, you can put something like Southern Dunes, Duke, Poston Butte, Longbow, Legacy, Raven - but some of those may go above 200 depending on time and day.

I intend not to play average or below courses after spending thousands and take time off to make the trip. But I think $200 should be enough to play top and at least decent public courses anywhere. What’s going on with Arizona?! lol 

To not break the bank I will rather drive a bit to play decent courses. Thanks for the list. I am looking at courses including Legacy, south dunes, whirlwind.

Go to Tucson instead and play Sewailo, AZ National, Tucson National, Starr Pass, Preserve at Saddlebrooke, El Conquistador, etc. which will all be under $200 and in many cases under $150, better than average courses, and way better than what you will get for the same (or more) money around Chandler.

People want to come to AZ in winter months - plain and simple.  Hence golf courses are taking advantage of that and gouging.

 

Whirlwind is already $250.  So NO, $200 is no enough to play top courses.   You will need to travel at up to 1 hour for the 2nd tier of courses (Estrella, Vistancia, Poston Butte, Raven, Legacy).

Welcome to Phoenix peak season golf, supply and demand.  I feel a little research would have done you good, there are plenty of threads discussing pricing.  If you are wanting to play any good courses like you mentioned at decent times, January booking has already been open for quite some time so I wouldn't wait much longer.

Top tier in the area would be Whirlwind, Ocotillo, Raven, Legacy. Second tier would be San Marcos, Western Skies, Bear Creek, Ken McDonald.

I was able to get decent/ reasonable prices. For legacy, I got $104 for a 1pm tee time…A bit late but I should manage to finish by dark. For the two Whirlwind courses, I booked at around $180 for weekday rates. Southern Dunes has $178 as weekend rate; it’s good to play there on the weekend because the rate is similar as weekdays.

Just FYI, I wouldn’t count on finishing at Legacy.  Sunset is 5:30ish, depending if there’s a frost delay your starting time can get pushed back and that course can be slow with 5+ hour rounds.
