August/September 2025 Cabot Trip Advice

Group of three of us are heading up to Cabot for the first time.  I put together what I think is a good itinerary but would love some advice comments on it! 

 

Also looking for a course to play near Halifax for our last day since our flight back to Boston doesn't leave until 4pm. 

 

August 29th:  Arrive Halifax @ 9pm stay at Holiday Inn Near Airport

August 30th: Pick up rental car and drive to Cabot.  1:12pm tee time Cabot Links

- check in after round - staying in one of the 3BR Hillside Homes

August 31st: 7:44am tee time Cabot Cliffs - will try to get in another 18 in the afternoon

Sept 1st: 9:12am Cabot Links 

Sept 2nd: 8:26am Cabot Cliffs 

 

After our round on the 2nd we will pack up and drive back down to Halifax.  Looking for recommendations on where to play in the morning on Sept 3rd as our flight is not until 4pm.  Looking at the Links at Brunello?  Any other recommendations?  Needs to be a morning round and somewhat close to the airport.

Looks like a great trip!!

 

My advice would be to make sure you give yourself extra time on the 30th for the drive to Cabot to make sure you're not late for your Tee time. The drive to Cabot is a tough one with a lot of small winding rural roads, and there's just no quick/direct way to get there.

 

For Public courses in the Halifax area, my Top 4 recommendations would be; Brunello, Grandview, Hartlen Point, and Penn Hills.

 

Brunello is very difficult to get Tee times at because members and pass holders have 30 day Pre-booking priviledge.

 

Grandview members have 7-day Pre-booking and is also tough to get Tee times. I have access to Pre-booking there though, so I could help you guys out.

 

Hartlen Point has a lottery for bookings for members, so it can also be difficult to get Tee times.

 

Penn Hills would be the easiest of the 4 courses to get Tee times, but it is a little bit more of a drive, and is out past the Airport.

Thanks so much for the advice!  We are staying at the Holiday Inn by the airport on tuesday night before we head out so Penn Hills was near the top of my list for convenience. 

 

Also looks like there are a couple of private courses out near the airport as well (Oakview & Ashburn)  once the season kicks up I may have my head pro send a friendly note on our behalf.  Highly doubt many of their members travel down to MA to return the favor but coming from a top 100 course could have some pull.

Well, I could get you guys on at Grandview for sure, and have buddies who have passes at Brunello and Hartlen Point, so I can potentially help on those as well.

 

Penn Hills you can get times at for sure though, and it’s a very underrated course. Lots of elevations as the name would suggest, and very picturesque and challenging also.

 

I’d probably rank them:

 

1) Hartlen Point (I’m a sucker for Ocean views)

 

2) Brunello (many people say it’s the toughest course in the Province)

 

3) Grandview (challenging course, and a beautiful natural setting)

 

4) Penn Hills (rolling hills, river views, and beautiful course as well)

 

Penn Hills has dirt cart paths, and isn’t maintained as well as the other 3 courses, that’s why it doesn’t have the same level of ranking. That being said, Hartlen Point doesn’t have great cart paths either, but the Ocean views make up for it.

Are options depending on where u stay on the 2nd. It’s 1.5 hours from Halifax airport.  A bit out of the way but way better experience. 
If it’s in the budget and u can get early am tee time I would book fox harbour on the 2nd.
