Anyone read this from forum fav Jenny Shin.  You would think she would notice...what driver does she play/who did the fitting.  So is she playing Srixon now.  Like most golfwrx articles not much info in there, but its interesting to say the least.

Jenny Shin was using Titleist GT2... changed to Srixon Zxi driver for the KPMG PGA Champs.

Not sure whether GolfWRX wants to update their article to include reference to the Titleist GT2 (or whether it's a deliberate omission!) ... fyi @knudson81.

Albeit = "Their house, their decision re content".

That's incredible that a pro was playing a D4 swingweighted driver for months when previously she has been playing D0...and didn't notice the difference in weight although she sure did with performance!

The D4 headweighted driver will be c.8 grams heavier than the D0 one!

Could a 4-handicap/ scratch amateur male golfer beat an LPGA Tour Pro

No way.

Very much looking forward to the Scottish and Women's Open particularly the latter due to the venue.

Of course a lot of it is weather dependent but very curious to see how Porthcawl plays for the women. The Seniors have been there a few times in the last 10 years and its been really interesting when the weather behaves.

Nelly Korda celebrated her 103rd week as Rolex No. 1 this past Monday June 23, 2025.  It's a tribute to how great her 2024 season was that she stays #1 even though she hasn't won halfway through 2025 season.  Jeeno had opportunities to dethrone Nelly during both 2025 USWO and KPMG, but she let Nelly off the hook.

Jeeno's next chance is the Amundi Evian which starts Thursday July 10, 2025; she can stop Nelly after 105 weeks as #1.

I don't see Nelly wins again unless she changes to a long putter like Minjee Lee.  That means she probably will end her career #6 on the list of players with the most weeks as No. 1:

  1. Jin Young Ko                  163 weeks
  2. Lorena Ochoa                158
  3. Lydia Ko                          125
  4. Yani Tseng                      109
  5. Inbee Park                      106
  6. Nelly Korda                     105

Lol. Bah. She may have not won this season, but she's far from stinking it up. Ten out of 10 cuts made, and four top 10s in 10 starts that include a T2 at the USWO.

Jeeno has had a good season, but she's not playing lights out.

Pretty sure Inbee's and Yani's streaks will fall. Wouldn't be surprised if Dame Lydia's run falls as well.

Yeah love this time of the season, can't beat the links layouts and some nice weather too. The Irish open should be a good one on this side of the pond as well. I will be at porthcawl on Saturday too so will take plenty of pics etc, can't wait. 😎

Food for thought:

The LPGA could certainly use a generational personality a la Caitlin Clark.  A single player can make a lot of people pay attention.  And once those eyeballs start tuning in they learn that there are a lot of great players, great personalities and great stories.  While I think Annika, Lorena and Nancy Lopez, to name a few, have had stretches where they were incredible, Se Ri is the one true game changer and she only transformed golf in Korea.

Nelly is an excellent player but she is not generational personality-wise.  Not a knock on her, just a fact.

@postfoldI'm intrigued by your post/comment i.e. i am relatively unfamiliar with Caitlin Clark (apart from references here & there, w.r.t. her breakout season playing college basketball and subsequently WNBA)

... Does Caitlin Clark also have a mega-watt personality? (genuine question)

Nelly's off-the-course photo opps seem to be generational (eg Met Gala, SI Swimsuit) w.r.t. attracting more eyeballs to women's golf (for someone seemingly introverted ... these seemed like steps outside Nelly's comfort-zone, i.e. perhaps was convinced to "see the bigger picture"?)

... but yes, if she had Usain Bolt's showmanship, then that would be a a slam-dunk (dunno why i mentioned Usain Bolt... first name that came to mind ... pls feel free to suggest alternatives).

@Jonnyuk74 just watching at Porthcawl i.e. or also planning to play some golf in the area?

i.e. based on the forum discussions here ... Porthcawl sounds fabulous/ under-rated!

@Jonnyuk74 wishing you happy golfing weather (for watching/ playing) ... i played Celtic Manor approx 20 years ago (prior to Ryder Cup 2010)

Sounds like you were clever, w.r.t. choice of your accommodation (proximity/ ease of getting there)

Caitlan Clark is to women's basketball what Tiger Woods is to men's golf.

Every time Caitlan has the ball, fans hold their breath.   She has unbelievable skills.   And she is personally responsible for the increase in fan involvement in WNBA, in my opinion.

I do not know about megawatt, but she is extremely approachable, visible and relatable.  She connects, especially with female audiences (imo) in a way that Nelly, for example, just doesn't.  At least not in large numbers.

Yes.

Again, I'm not picking on Nelly, but she just isn't the needle mover that the LPGA needs to break through in terms of audience size.  And I'm not saying you have to find a female Tiger Woods, it's certainly possible to grow the game organically, but that's a loooong, slow process compared with having a player that makes your league must-see-TV.

Oh did you? How did you play? 🤔. Yeah it's only about 45 mins away from porthcawl I believe? So not to bad really. Might be a few players staying there maybe too...

Se Ri Pak not only transformed golf in Korea, but I think it had a trickle effect in other Asian countries, namely Thailand.

Michelle Wie could have been that player that changed the face of the LPGA.
