The owners are local CO golfers active on the fried egg local nest group. It's a new startup they funded. I could be wrong but I suspect they are not that busy and are hurting for business and I also suspect they would be more than willing to give you a discount at those times. worth contacting them

My kid's high school club golf team is looking for indoor sim facilities near Lone Tree that would be used in case of inclement weather. One bay on Wednesdays and/or Friday mornings (around 10:30am/11:30am) for an hour. Since this is a public school, budget-friendly is ideal. Feel free to reply here or DM me.

I have no idea on if they have resident restrictions or not, but the HighLands Ranch rec center on Broadway has one. Looked like a pretty nice one.

I sent this to my boss (who hates working from home) a few months ago and was trying to convince him to see if we can expense office space there once a week. 🤣

MRI finally came back...

Double tendon/double cartilage tear in my right shoulder. Two weeks to get into an orthopedic surgeon to determine next steps (surgery and/or PT).

I was chatting with @seven dewey today, which got me wondering about Meridian's range membership program.

Instead of getting rid of it, they have put in an interesting subscription-based model which includes instruction time.

I'm not going to bother to ask since I have a bum shoulder, but I'm going to guess it's going to easily cost $300-400/mo.

Collindale was glorious this morning, not because of the course conditions, but because we got that rain last night and some cool cloud cover and the air felt incredible with that little moisture in it. God maybe I should move to Oregon or the UK.

I guess Collindale lost its water source (Warren Lake had a leak?) it won’t be back until mid summer. I have no idea what’s going to happen out there. Pray for us.

Game is slowly coming back. Hit some really good shots. Wish I could get out more and keep the insights and momentum going in the right direction. Oh well. It was a pretty walk!

It's a city course isn't it? I would think they could get something else together.

New to Colorado WRX. I live in Fort Collins and mostly play the city courses. Recovering from a shoulder injury, so this week was my first week on the course this year.

Played City Park 9 on Saturday morning. Rain was in the forecast but it never showed up, so the course was relatively empty. Tee boxes aren't in use yet, so the tees were all 20-30 yards in front of their normal spots. I shot 40 on the front and was having so much fun I got permission from my wife to play another nine. Shot 33 on the back nine for my lowest nine hole score since high school. But hard to get too excited about it since I was basically playing from the ladies tees.

Anyway, this seems like a fun forum. Looking forward to following along this year. 🍻

Welcome Phrend!

Hi All!

First off, very jealous of some of the NZ trips being discussed. That is at the very top of the bucket list when I can find the time to make the trek.

I'm from South FL, but a good friend and I are going to be coming out in September to play Colorado GC for the Fried Egg event. I'm an enormous Coore Crenshaw fan so this is a bucket list course for me. While we'd love to play a practice round prior, I don't think the event/club is going to allow that. Do you all have any recommendations for another course we could play in the Parker/Denver area that would be a good tune up for CGC? Something with similar elevation and greens would be ideal since that will be the biggest change for us coming from Florida. I'm roughly a 4 handicap and my buddy is in the 8-10 range.

Thanks in advance for any advice/input!

Cheers,

Ryan

Hey @RCL!

You're not going to find any course that REALLY compares to CGC. It's pretty incredible and my fav track in CO and I would bet in the top 3 from most everyone here.

I think @ASak10's recommendation is probably the best one I can think of in the south denver area simply because of the green complexes. CGC's greens are pretty crazy and you're really going to want to get used to the bent/poa crazy greens for your event. Every course will give you similar yardage so no worries there. I haven't played it but South Suburban's greens might be comparable?

As far as yardage, I disagree with @jda completely on this one. Find a percentage change that works for you and go with it. Maybe he forgets that 7% of 100 yards is half as much as 7% of 200 yards? When I go to sea level (3-5 times a year) it always falls between 7%-10%. Also, the wind will make less of a difference as it's also thinner. I think those percentages are different for everyone depending on launch conditions, temp, humidity, etc. but it should be right around that 7%-10% window.

Another yardage option is to find a good launch monitor and turn it to the new elevation and temperature and build a spreadsheet of your numbers. If I'm going to a tournament at an elevation far from CO that's what I do so I can have a quick reference card while I'm playing.

South Suburban's greens are just stupid, not crazy. 🤣 Plus, they've dialed back on the speed so now only golfers like me can five-putt a green.

The only other courses I would think that have as crazy as green complexes would be Castle Pines Golf Club and Cherry Creek Country Club, both of which are somewhat difficult to get on.

I finally got around to checking my shot scope round for when I played St. Andrews Beach in Australia and was shocked at how accurate the gps was. I only had to modify two shots that were off a couple yards in the fairway for the whole round. Everything else exactly matched the distances I shot with my laser/paced off on greens. Even small putts of 2 feet vs less than a foot, the gps had accurately.

I'm flabbergasted. I always have to modify at least one shot a hole when reviewing rounds in the US. If it worked like this for all my rounds I would never have to check any scores over. I know the US military puts some fudge factor into the commercial gps so it can't be easily used for targeting by a foe. I'm guessing Australia doesn't care or at least since St Andrews Beach is sort of in the middle of nothing near the coast maybe there is nothing worth protecting there. The New Zealand rounds were similar to the US rounds as far as to the amount of editing I needed to do. Will be curious to see if the other Australia rounds are as accurate.

@Dancin what Shot Scope product(s) do you use for tracking? I like GolfPad GPS for most things, but shot tracking is not great--and even worse for putting.

The H4 handheld that clips on your belt. I don't like wearing a watch but if you don't mind that I think the watch detects the club without having to tap the end.

Thanks. The H4 would probably be my choice, too. I already wear a Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, so I'm not sure I would feel like swapping watches on my wrist. I also wear sun sleeves and usually keep my watch under it.

That's interesting. I have both the H4 and the V5 watch. I notice that on and around the greens it can be off by quite a bit sometimes. I've always wondered if it's cause I'll tag the pin or a club too fast while walking around the green. Not letting the GPS catch up to me moving.

I've been using Arccos for a while and it seems pretty accurate all around. It will miss some shots around the green, especially if (when?!?!?!) I flub a chip and have to chip again from the same area. I mean, I've heard that happens to others. Not me, no sir, I would never.  Anyway....every year I think about cancelling it and then somehow talk myself into keeping it.

No annual fee with shot scope

Yeah that's a reason why I should switch over.  I'm guessing Arccos may be more robust with their data and information and feedback but let's be honest, I'm not really doing deep dives into my game. Perhaps I should be but between the kids and work and everything else...I'm just happy to get out and play as often as I can.

If you aren't using it to find out what to work on then yeah kind of pointless.

For sure. When I first got it I actually used the data and would work on stuff. Then I got away from it and I keep telling myself I’ll use it again if I keep it. Now it’s just become a habit to play with it and I feel weird without tracking.

Thats gotta be the worst. At least there’s an end in sight!

I’m playing Meridian tomorrow and then CG on Friday and Sunday. Yay Masters week 🙂

Played Indian Peaks yesterday. Planning on taking this week off to watch The Masters. A lot of places just punched or are punching soon. Seemed like a good time to take a week off.

Going to "try" but over the last week plus I have been switching between two different clubs with totally different setups.

Only thing I made sure was both clubs are at D2 SW.......otherwise totally different head, shaft, etc. and I have no idea what my swing is now.

Edit: may cross state lines next weekend though, which if my swing is still "off" I might need a dozen balls to finish a one round  🤣

Yeah CG punched Monday. Hoping it won’t be too bad by Friday and definitely Sunday. Although some sand can’t hurt my putting, may actually help.

Played today at CG. Greens a bit sandy but the ball rolled nicely. No big punch marks.

I had 38 putts but that’s only due to me being terrible on the greens today.

More then $400 a month? Just to use the range?  What comes with that for price?
