Colorado WRX 2025

Collindale was in fantastic shape today after all that rain and the sun came out and was warm with a little humidity in the air. Felt and played amazing.

Yeah it was pretty solid for the invite. The grass on the greens isn't as dense as normal but that's likely from the water access problems you mentioned earlier in the year. Considering that it was in great shape.

I have two friends coming out to in in mid-July to play golf. Raven then one of the Keystone courses on Saturday 7/19; Breckenridge on Sunday 7/20. There is five of us total, so if anyone might be interesting in joining us, shoot me a DM.

If you can play only one Keystone course, which one do you recommend?

It has been a couple of years, but both of the Keystone courses are good for different reasons - River course has hills and goes through the woods with elevation changes and the Ranch is more flat and in the open valley.  They both will depend on the growth after the winter kill, of course, but are usually acceptable with some dead spots as you might expect.  The Ranch is more like a course that you can find in town in Denver with views of the mountains.  River = Pole Creek and Ranch = Granby Ranch, if you are more familiar with those in Grand.  River course has a few blind tee shots which some people HATE - you hit at a pole that you can barely see over the grass.

Just me, but I would skip The Raven unless you have a coupon.  They seem to be trying more now, but the price is too much for the conditions.  We put a 5 year ban on it in 2023.  It is a $75 round to me.  If it has gotten better, please let me know since some of the guys that I know really love it and were super disappointed last time.  Sometimes the greens are more sand than grass.  The range is more sand than grass too.  The recent 2-3 star reviews are real - even the 5 star reviews mention poor conditions most of the time.  It is certainly a beautiful layout.

Sadly, it's the only Summit County course available with Saturday morning tee times. I think the greens fee includes food and drinks?

I wonder if Keystone opens up more morning tee times a little closer in?

I haven't played either but most people I've talked to say the RTJ jr Ranch course is better than the Hurdzan/Fry River course

My quick explanation is the River course is a tourist track you want to bring your friends from out of state to come play. The River course is the one that you want to play a tournament on (or play every day) as it's much more fair.

Finally got out for a few rounds. Only took the kid graduating...!

Pretty sure was not a compliment but 3 holes in the comment was "greasy 8.5 ehh"  🤣

Played Tetherow and Eugene.

Tetherow is legit, I loved it.

We will be staying in Breck that week Mon-Thurs. We're having all our employees up there for a company retreat. Ironic!

Sounds like The Raven had a mild winter and has turned it around this year:

Awesome course

First time I’ve played the Raven in 3 years and seventh tome overall. Was disappointed in course conditions in 21 and 22 but they were great yesterday for early season.

My wife and I are making our annual Denver summer trip from Oklahoma City and, while we've found some courses that we really like, I was wondering if there are any other options that we should explore.

6/20 - Commonground

6/21 - Red Hawk Ridge

6/22 - Bear Dance

6/23 - Fossil Trace

6/24 - Fossil Trace

We've found Fossil Trace to be the most "fun" course with some of the quirky hole layouts, and Bear Dance is the best course we've played but found the conditioning to be worse than usual last summer. Red Hawk Ridge was a new addition last year and seemed really cool, although it pissed rain the entire time. Commonground has been great as well.

Anything different we should try to check out?

It's totally out of the way compared to your list, but I would probably recommend Riverdale Dunes, which is a reasonably-priced Pete Dye course. Kind of near Commonground is Murphy Creek, which is where the US Mid-Amateur was played like 15 years ago. Another local Pete Dye course that has had somewhat of a renaissance since its remodel is Plum Creek, which is near Red Hawk Ridge. I would also probably throw Walnut Creek onto the list, as well.

Skip Riverdale Dunes this year. They just completed a full irrigation reno so there's likely to be a bunch of healing needed through the rest of the year.

I have played Walnut for my first two CGA Mid-Am Match play matches and it has been pure.

I'd go play RainDance as a really unique course if you're willing to drive up there

Ask what their cancellation policy is. A lot of times members have to drop 24 hours or 48 hours prior to not get charged a fee. I have friends at HR that are also members at keystone and they usually game time decision on if they're going up based on weather.

Did you tell them that is what happens when you only post 3 of your rounds in a year?

No proof but I have played enough $$ games with random people to say it felt a like a bit of a small "hussle".  🤣

Four of us so we played 6's.  Oddly everytime one them was my partner, the suddenly could not hit 40 yard wide fairways.  Pretty sure the one tied match I had to shot 1 under / even to just tie as it was me vs the other 2.  My partner at least admitted he did not help after the match.....though he was the big $$ winner LOL

IE: Why you carry a "suspect "HDCP.  Honestly It was more I knew I would actually have to focus given how they were talking bets and when someone asks you if you play "Animal Tracks" or not............... 😏

Tetherow is legit, I loved it.

I thought the front was just okay.  All the houses on the top ridge lines really loom down on the front 9.  The back is LEGIT for sure.  I really liked the back 9.  16-17-18 are great finishing holes.

FYI - It's a 36 hole match, not an 18. Still, he's a stud.

I'm a little jealous he practices/plays all summer. I guess it's penance for being a high school science teacher.

Did not realize that.  I am no longer impressed.

I’ve played each one time. I found the Ranch to be much more playable, the River has some really cool holes with tons of elevation change. If you are going for mountain golf wow factor I’d say that one. If doing some little competition type stuff the Ranch won’t eat your lunch/golf balls as badly.

The last time I played Breck I shot triple digits and lost 10 or 11 balls. Granted I was tired and hungover, but it was brutal. The Raven was in rough shape the last time I played it. But that was several years ago.

I got talked into playing in the Riverdale member/guest this year. It’s the same weekend as @pseudoswede mountain trip or I’d much rather do that.

Half of the Knolls is under construction so you play 1,11,7,8,9,10,16,17,18 twice when on that course…gonna be brutally slow is my guess. But they don’t really have any other options since they don’t want to cut the field in half I’m sure.

One of my friends played Raven a few days ago.  He said that nothing has changed.  He said that Copper was just as good shape and half the price.  Copper does have plenty of Tee Times on the 19th for $135.  I have never played here that I can remember.

We actually filled all eight spots for Raven. Still three spots available for 820/830 at Breckenridge on Sunday.

Greetings from Budapest. It hit 100° yesterday, and it was absolutely miserable. Today, the weather cooled down, and we went to one of the many traditional thermal spas around the city. I decided to try the "Dante Sauna" (also known as a Finnish sauna), which was a gentle 205° (not a typo). Almost all the skin on my body started hurting after four minutes.

This is an absolutely gorgeous city, but I highly recommend visiting in the fall or winter.

Anyone know any good spots in the Denver/Boulder area where I can get a wedge fitting off grass? I looked at Gott golf but it seems like they do both irons and wedges together, I already have a fitted set of irons I just need the wedges.

Hey everyone! First time posting here, but been around WRX for a while. I'm trying to pick between one of the CGA Member Play Days at Ravenna or the one at Raindance National. I've never played either and would love some advice as to which one is a better time. I prefer Prairie or Links style courses with my favorite local courses I've played are Commonground, Colorado Golf Club and Murphy Creek (specifically their front 9). From what I can read it sounds like Raindance is more in line with that style. But then again, Ravenna being a private course makes me feel like I should take the opportunity to go there over Raindance where they have more public availability.
