Phoenix Golf Trip

Hey fellas, first post here, planning a golf trip mid march and can’t decide on our 4th round option and need the locals help on course recommendations as I have researched them all and now they all run together of the mid top tier courses. Coming from pinehurst style golf I’d like to stick with a more desert type and best course conditions. Playing AK Southern Dunes, Boulders South, Wekopa Saguaro so far. Like to stay under 250.00 for the 4th round and willing to drive 45-1hr radius of Phoenix.

Verrado would be a good option. March will be premium pricing, so you will likely need to use the 1 hour drive radius to get a high quality venue under $250. Founders is a bit more straight forward while Victory has more quirk. I think most prefer Founders, as do I. But I think both are very good. Both provide the desert experience.

 Verrado as mentioned, Champion’s Course, Legend Trail, Longbow, Sunridge, Eagle Mountain

not to throw another wrench in the mix but I actually like Golf Club at Estrella better than both Verrado courses.

haha I like Phoenician more than Verrado 

 

Mainly because I think the back 9 at the Phoenician is one of the prettiest 9's in the valley, it's 5 minutes from my house (this is pretty key lol), and well you all know I think Verrado Founders is overrated. Plus, Phoenician is normally in better shape than Verrado (the Verrado greens need replaced).

 

That said, the front 9 at The Phoenician is contrived and runs through a neighborhood so I get why people are disappointed.

For your expensive rounds, if possible, I would replace Boulders with either a Troon North course, a Grayhawk course or Wekopa Cholla.

I would assume any Troon course is going to be in good condition in March? I was looking at Estrella as well, also Los Cabelleros

I would also go Troon North over Boulders, possibly add on Quintero (it will be on the cusp of $250 pricing for sure). 

 

I like both Verrado courses just fine. Solid golf and def qualifies as desert with some awesome views and scenery. 

 

Wekopa and Southern Dunes are both awesome. Grayhawk Raptor, Troon North Pinnacle would be the only two other must play courses to recommend, but both will be lube worthy pricing in March. 

 

Whirlwind golf courses, if priced around $150 are a solid value for that time of year as well. Raven golf club might be a decent deal as well. Not a desert course but normally in nice condition and moderate side of pricing.

Troon North may be my favorite course I've played.  Get a Forecaddie, and hopefully you can find some rates that work in your budget.

Hard sell to my group $800.00 for 2 rounds at grayhawk and troon, that’s why I wanted to throw in a mid tier, even Quintero wants like $350

Estrella and Los Cab are great options. Los Cab could be pushing 1.5 hours depending on where you are staying. I think it is worth the drive if you have time.

Los Cab is an hour from where we are staying in north west Phoenix

Those three courses are a step above Boulders.

Round 1 AK Southern Dunes 

Round 2 We ko pa Saguaro 

Round 3 We ko pa Cholla

Round 4 Quintero
