I'm 65 and have never been able to get excited about the geezer tour.  For me, it's just another exhibition tour and I just don't care who wins, even the "majors".  It's also a tour my group of geezer golf buddies never discusses.  But I'm sure many enjoy watching it, so you aren't alone.

It's very hard to tell that it's an exhibition tour when players try so hard to win, there's a lot of pressure on Sunday (take Hensby) and players are so professional about it.  Senior players may look more relaxed around but when it's time to play they are superb competitive animals, because golf is extremely competitive and these guys spent a life in that milieu.  They go for the trophy and they go for the bucks with a knife between their teeth.

Paddy Harrington is far from "geezer", lol. There are some older for sure and still competitive and you don't have to like the Champions Tour golf but for as relaxed as they say it is, it is extremely competitive out there and not an "exhibition" tour.  It takes extremely good golf to win and that's why I enjoy it.  But, like the PGAT and DP World, some events I like better than others and some I just don't watch.  Only thing about the Champions Tour that gets a little cringy is if someone is having a yippy day on the greens - that is really hard to watch.

Gotta get to the practice area at my course very very early in the morning to try this out lol

He's nuts!  Funny thing, I was just watching early Sunday morning a TPI session that Iona Stephen filmed and Dr. Rose had her doing a very similar jump and turn move to have her get the feel of hip movement and rotation and direction and addressing her early extension.

If on course reporters, or Roger in particular,  ever help,  then i can see Harrington's frustration.  If they usually don't,  then...

Also,  if Harrington thought he had seen where it went,  then also i could understand his frustration.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't - Paddy was out of line and frustrated and apologized to Roger the next day.

Agree. I walked the Senior Open on Sunday. Some players are clearly not in the best shape but most are. And nearly everyone is striping drive after drive straight down the middle of the fairway. Many drives over 300 yards albeit at altitude. Even more impressive was the iron play approach to the ideal spots below the hole on many greens.

I have no doubt most are fiercely competitive and want to win, I've just never been able to care who does.  But there is one exception if I happen to notice it, and that's Langer, but that's only interesting to me because of his age.

Yippy day on the greens would give me a reason to watch because it's so relatable.  I don't doubt their competitiveness or the quality of golf, I've just never been able to care who wins, unlike the most recent PGA event that featured young potgeiter contending.

Golf is quintessentially and naturally competitive. You set up a match for a few $$ and you want to win.  You play your Wednesday night league and you want to win.  So does a pro at the Open or a kid at any junior tournament.

Back in the day when exhibitions were pro golfers' main income, competition was ruthless, too.  The story of the exhibition matches between Bobby Locke and young Peter Thomson in the late 40's around South Africa is legendary.  Thomson, a very young pro with no experience started losing badly against the seasoned Locke.  The South African had initially taken Thomson under his wing and they'd travel together from course to course around the country.  But after a few matches the Australian found his way to beat his rival and won most of the remaining matches to Locke's distress.  Bobby Locke no longer took Thomsom as his protegee and they didn't talk to each other for a number of years.

First time I saw Triplett or Bjorn walk up to his ball I thought, this won’t be good.

Dead wrong.   Still d@mn good golfers, just need to get on your workout program.

After losing to Darren Clarke at the 2000 WGC Matchplay, Tiger had pinned a note to Clarke's locker: "Congratulations... but you'll always be a fat f**k".

Interesting article from Adam Schupak w.r.t. Player Equity grants

https://golfweek.usatoday.com/story/sports/golf/pga/2025/07/01/pga-tour-equity-grants-past-legends-not-happy/84423194007/

Interesting - I'm a little surprised at any of the old guys being included, assume there was a reason, but it really was more about current players and the future.  A little unseemly their whining about no handout, and I feel bad for Jacklin but he's kind of carped about his personal situation for quite awhile and paying off guys for what they did 50 years ago does make little sense. Have to say, though, if Elkington got a payout .....  Hope they sent Norman a check for $16.72.
