Cobra King 3DP Tour

I'm curious how "hot" the faces are. When I got back into the game, I fit into the 2018 Cobra Forged Tec Black (mostly due to a buddy who had a pro discount). I loved the distance and the feel, but they tended to overcook my left miss. After playing for a few years and lowering my handicap to a 5, I decided to take the opposite approach and purchased a set of National Custom Works Don White blades. Since then, my handicap has improved to a 3.1 due to strong ball striking and a much flatter ball flight that tends to be less punishing on the overcooked pull. I'm wondering if these will act more like a forged Tec on massive pulls, or is it more similar to a T100/T150?

I'm testing the 3DPs next to my T150s and wouldn't classify either as hot. The lower CG of the 3DP has proven to be very forgiving, especially off the toe more than the Titleist. Compared to hotter face irons, such as the Mizuno JPX 925F or 425s, I haven't seen any fliers or outliers over 100s of balls so far. They feel like a forged head but get more predictable #s across the face.

Snuck out and hit a bucket. First things first, aesthetically these are awesome. The minimalist styling is great and the shaping and proportions are nice. Unfortunately, every single time I get new clubs out to the range for the first time it seems to be insanely windy and today was no exception. Constant unrelenting 25-30 mph headwind. Initial impressions are these are very easy to hit and hit straight for their size, just like all the other reviews are saying. The 5 and the 6 irons were very easy to launch and they both seemed to cut through the wind pretty well which has me thinking they're going to be pretty low spin. Hoping to hit them again this weekend without so much wind. The forgiveness is there, but they aren't miracle workers, terrible shots were still terrible. Feel was solid although, none of my shots wowed me in that department. They did feel soft and solid, though. Could be I have gotten used to the hotter feel of the P770 and I was hitting cold hard range balls on a cold day. I'd say these are pretty comparable to my p770's with different aesthetics (both are very hard to beat in bag appeal). What I did notice was left to right dispersion felt more automatic, like the face wants to stay square. Kind of like the feeling of switching from a low spin front weighted driver to more weight back high moi driver. Maybe not that dramatic but just a slight feel. Very cool product.  Excited to get them on a monitor next week with a better ball.

Please do keep us updated. I was comparing these to the P770 but it was hard to hit them at the same time/location. I ended up going with P770 to save $1000, but with my next bonus I could justify the swap if it makes sense.

Im traditionally a low launch and low spin player with my irons, so it’s assumed I’d bend them all a degree or two weak.

I think you need a monitor to fully understand how good they are.
Mishits are substantially better in distance.

When you hit shots off centre or lower on the face they are only 5 yards shorter. Spin numbers are also very close across the face. The only bad shot on the face is high which is the same as most clubs.

this is my major concern with any easy to launch/ more forgiving club. Shots hit high in the face launch high with low spin. Great for a driver but not an iron. With blades that area of the face is actually more forgiving/ part of the sweet spot almost.

The price is outrageous.

You pretty much nailed what we’re all comparing the 3DP to. There's 17 pages of pretty detailed information in this thread worth looking through.

1. The 3D printing takes much longer vs cast or forging.

2. Allows more weight to be distributed lower = much higher moi, more forgiveness

3. It’s a hollow lattice construction

4. Compact players head shape with GI levels of forgiveness

5. The build quality is exceptional

6. Might be one of the most forgiving yet longest irons I’ve ever hit.

Here’s my own comparison:

I would say close to the larger ones that you listed. Has a pretty thick top line for one. Not inline with T100, P7CB which are smaller.

Factory construction was excellent, head dimensions/etc are all really, really good.

... I only have 5 rounds in with my 3DP Tour/MMT 85 shafts but after 3 rounds I re-shafted mine with Steelfiber i80's. I have played Steelfibers for about 8 years now and I was very disappointed in the MMT's. Performance was fine but I play my irons at 1/2+ and ordered my 3DP's at 1/4+ because I was a little worried about the swingweight. It was justified as mine came in at D5 with the 9i at D6. Compared to the Steelfibers the MMT's also have a lower balance point feel and the set felt extremely head heavy.

... Re-shafting with my i80's at 1/2+ they are now D3 and the balance is much better. I was a little surprised the lofts were dead on spec from Cobra, which is pretty rare. Cobra obviously did the bending and several irons were more upright than the requested +2* but I have a Mitchell Tour LL machine and it was an easy fix. That said for $2400 I was expecting darn near perfect so again, pretty disappointed.

... Coming from King Tours the feel of the 3DP's is very nice. Solid and dense feeling but not as soft feeling as the KT's. Having played tons of MB's the softest feeling irons I have ever played are the MIM Tour irons. The KT's feel pretty close but I don't think it is an apples to apples comparison between the one piece forged KT's and the hollow head/lattice reinforced steel 3DP's. So I am very happy with the feel as it is noticeably better than the King Tec's, T200's and the newest P770's (in the classified).

... So far I am still adjusting to the feel and still prefer my KT's but I imagine after 10 more rounds or so that will change. I have hit two bad 5 irons and both were still on the green so the forgiveness is exceptional.

Is anyone able to give a direct comparison to anyone of the recent jpx forged models? Interested in performance as well as feel. Feel is particularly important to me in the scoring irons. Would these cobras still be considered workable?

Besides the 3DPs, I am very interested in these questions too...JPX925 Forged.

Ok, finally got to hit on GC Quad. I brought all 3 of my 6 irons and was hitting the Callaway Chrome Tour X which I find to be a couple hundred more revs spin than Prov1x on a 6 iron which is what I need.  All same shaft $ taper 120, same grip. Stock lofts on all.

Cobra 3dP:

Ballspeed: 133

Spin 5200

Carry 194

Peak height 32 yd

Descent angle 44 degrees

P770:

Ballspeed 132

Peak height 36 yd

Descent angle 47 degrees

P7CB

Ballspeed 130

Spin 5775

Carry 187

After hitting side by side, I'm not sure I have a preference, they all seem to do what they're supposed to do.

Bend the 3dp back a degree and its a winner here imo. If you really want to get crazy try a kbs tour in place of the $ taper. Probably not worth swapping shafts but this is wrx so….

Well, received my 3dp today 5-gw with modus 105 stiff.  They do look great.  I grabbed them and went straight to the range. Only grabbed the pw, 9, and 7 iron.  Probably should of grabbed the 5 iron.

Pw, seemed straighter and more accurate than my zxi5 pw. I hit several really close to the flag. Flight was high, probably higher then the zxi5 steelfiber i95 stiff. Feel was really good. Wondering now about putting modus 105 or accra iseries green in the zxi irons.

7 iron was nice, again seemed more accurate. I did catch one high on the face, and I lost like 20 yards.  Granted the range was like hitting off 1" grass. Or maybe I'm used the the srixon bounce.

5 iron looks tiny. I hope its more forgiving then it looks. Wondering in i should have went forged tec in the 5 and 6. I am playing zxi4 5/6 irons. So these are quite different. I didn't get to see them in person before ordering.

Will putt them play Saturday and provide more feed back.

Did also get the ds adapt x driver. It was great in the simulator, but on the range outside it was a bit of a struggle. 20250515_163724.jpg.5a9d48ff81796ac2f17aaccabefee9b9.jpg20250515_163728.jpg.d51f3f5f79cd38b50cdf8528e1b533c4.jpg20250515_163749.jpg.7e75f61dc39415607cf557f75ffcd5c1.jpg

While I understand the sentiments. The p770 is giving better numbers, doesn’t need to be bent, and is 1000 bucks cheaper….

The numbers are the best technically with the p7cb if we are nitpicking. Id want a little less distance, a more penetrating flight, and spin personally. Feel is important too.

I’d take the height and decent angle is the best with the p770. And it’s going to be far bar off off days than the cb.

but regardless, both id agree taylormade irons are better and cost half as much.  Maybe the 3dp sound better and that’s worth a grand?🤷

Okay but you are still playing a hollow soulless iron that sounds a foam filled aluminum can. Id rather quit golf and save what little dignity I have. 😉

Ok, finally got to hit on GC Quad. I brought all 3 of my 6 irons and was hitting the Callaway Chrome Tour X which I find to be a couple hundred more revs spin than Prov1x on a 6 iron which is what I need.  All same shaft $ taper 120, same grip. Stock lofts on all.

Cobra 3dP:

Ballspeed: 133

Spin 5200

Carry 194

Peak height 32 yd

Descent angle 44 degrees

P770:

Ballspeed 132

Spin 5450

Carry 193

Peak height 36 yd

Descent angle 47 degrees

P7CB

Ballspeed 130

Spin 5775

Carry 187

Peak height 32 yd

Descent angle 45.5

After hitting side by side, I'm not sure I have a preference, they all seem to do what they're supposed to do.

I’m with @Pnwpingi210  I’d go with the P770s based on that test. Really good numbers and shot height, plus the steepest descent angle. Also that model has a flighted CG which I like better for ball flight than a super low CG.

Okay but you are still playing a hollow soulless iron that sounds a foam filled aluminum can. Id rather quit golf and save what little dignity I have. 😉

Just have to ask… So an iron created by a 3D printer has “soul”??? Your point, but I’d say a properly forged one piece iron would be classified as having “soul”, and both the 3D printed and hollow head would be “soulless”. JAT 😊
