Right on.  P770 and 3dp are both hollow headed irons.  Spending 1k extra doesnt make it less hollow.

Took mine to the range today. Finally, barely any wind so I could actually judge ball flight. The 7-PW are actually stupid easy to hit and consistent. I brought my P770 5 iron and hit it back to back with the 3DP 5 iron. 3DP is definitely more forgiving and feels better. I was getting some that looked to be pretty manageable height. The 770 for me just launches and flies consistently higher in the longer irons. I'm really itching to get these on the course and see if they can help me get more GIR.

Correct. I do, however, play in soft conditions most of the year so it's mostly a "nice to have" feature.

My 3DP’s with the LA Golf L Series arrived this morning. I have the Ping Blueprint S with MMT 125S’s in the bag now and I really like them.

 

I took the 8 iron to the range and it’s probably 10-12 yarder longer at least than the BPS’s. Height on the 3DP is nearly the same(maybe a touch lower) but I can tell these aren’t spinning as much as most people have pointed out. I may have to weaken them a touch to add a bit more spin. The 4 iron is really easy to hit and just wants to go straight. 
 

I’ll put them in play next week to see how the perform on the course. I have some state am tournaments coming up so I have 3 weeks to figure out which one gets in the bag.

Teed off at 6:30 am so temps low 60s and winds gusting like crazy probably around 25mph. My first round with the 3dp was a struggle. I did hit a good pw from 116 yards to about 8ft, but missed the putt.

 

Next shot was a par 3 playing 137, wind was crazy but I thought is winf was right to left, hit a 9 iron and was short right by about 20 yards. Whipped with the gw, and almost holed it. 

 

Next shot was 148 into the wind to a back pin, hit the 7 iron, probably should of hit the 6, ended up on the front of the green and was probably 30 yards short. 

 

Next hole had another 148 from the rough, hit the 6 this time, grass was high, hit the ball high in the in the face. Was way short of the green. 

 

Rest of the day was OK, but doubt was setting in with thoughts im not good enough for these with my 8hc.  Liked the 9-gw.  Did not hit the 8 iron, 5 iron was good on some pitchouts. Shot s 82 with new irons and the cobra adapt x in the bag for the 1st time. The cobra was kind of spinny. 

 

Irons might hit the bst.

Guess I should say dont buy an iron you have never seen or hit and order based it off another iron. I hit the forged tec 7 iron really well with the modus 105. I did not get along with the $ taper. Since I could demo the 3dp, I based it off that. Not a good decision.

Not sure I'd agree. If you're hitting high on the face, you're typically fatting it which is always going to lose distance.

im talking about the top side of what would be the sweet spot on specifically shorter irons. Ive tested plenty of irons and usually when they start getting the cg low if makes the toe/lower face more forgiving but high and a touch heel side becomes unpredictable. Ive had irons that lose 1k spin, launch goes up 3 degrees and ball speed drops on what feels like a solid strike. Playing off zyosia it can be an issue especially for a higher speed golfer. Hence one reason why competitive players tend to not play gi type irons. They are hard to control distance with. I hope we get some cobra 3dp options where you can get a higher cg but a blade size with more heel/toe stability. (Like what woodland and homa are playing)

Anyone coming from a Mizuno 243 into these or the Limit3D ? Just curious about any anecdotal comparisons. 3DP looks like its slightly longer but with a bit less spin.

I wanted to love these so much, but couldn’t find a shaft that matched with my swing that gave me enough spin at that loft. High 4K low 5K.

 

has anyone weakened these to 33 or 34 and seen better spin numbers?

What ball do you play? I’ve been playing the TP5 lately but I think I’d have to go to a higher spinning ball + weaker to add some spin. 

 

I spent about an hour on Trackman yesterday and I think I’ll have to bend my irons 1* flat and at least 1* weak to get them where I want them to really compare them against my Ping Blueprint S.

These are about perfect for me. I can’t say enough good things about the performance of the long irons. They are just so easy to hit.

I'm putting mine up on BST. Played today and I had a not so great round, so I blame the irons 🤷‍♂️.  They are phenomenal irons for the right person. They actually let me get away with murder on a couple iron shots that were bad strikes and still hit the green. The head size is just a little big for me, I know this sounds crazy, but I feel like I am less 'precise' with them. Like there are a greater range of outcomes.  The window is also a bit low on the 5,6 and 7 irons for me which is the opposite of what I need. Outrageously forgiving, though, for something that looks so good.

I just got back from the shop. My set were 1* stronger than standard(ordered standard loft), so I went 2* weak from standard lofts. 
 

This is exactly what I needed. I’m now about 10 yards longer (was nearly 20 yards pre-adjustment) than the Blueprint S’s, higher peak height, equal spin, + 4-5* on descent angle and I’m finding the middle easier. When I don’t find the middle, I get away with it. 
 

I was worried I was going to have to put those on BST fairly soon unless I could figure out something. I’d definitely recommend to get them checked and/or adjusted for some additional height and spin.

Tried everything from prov1x to Kirklands. Been gaming the chrome tour td which are surprisingly spinny in the irons but couldn’t get them to work with my delivery and shaft.

 

Only thing that got close was dropping down a flex and hitting with the project x io 5.5s, but at 87 mph 7 iron speed it was a bit of an issue.

 

ha it looks like I’ll be gaming the blueprint s as I got a great deal on a set. Currently use tcbs but need a touch more forgiveness

I saw a bit more height and spin with the Bridgestone BX and the Srixon ZStar Diamond but going weak will allow me to keep with my TP5’s.

Hmm so you have them at 34 for the 7 iron? How much additional spin did you find? Also how would you compare the 3dp tours to your blueprint S? I assume there's more forgiveness on the 3dp tour but what are we talking here

I would be 33* on the 7 iron. I found 1K-1250 rpm’s just on the bending alone, and probably another 250 RPM’s on the ball change.
 

The BPS are no where near as forgiving but I’ve played some great golf with them. Slightly different shaft(MMT 125S in the BPS vs LA L Series 120 4(S)) I just feel like I’m getting away with a lot on the cobra’s, way more than I can with the BPS. Now that the spin is nearly the same or higher, height is higher, and I’ve added to the descent angle…the 3DP’s are really hard to ignore. It’s a thicker top line and the offset is considerable different but my Ho heart can see past these differences.

So I’m enjoying the KTX, but I’d love a smaller profile and a bit more height. Carrying the KTX 7i 166 with a peak height over 105. Thinking about moving into the standard King Tec but, budget isnt an issue, and it seems like the 3DP is more in between the KTX and KT. Thoughts?

I think they said they weren’t going to mass produce them. They were a once off for the pro players. Max Homa

I could be wrong, but I don't think these are the 3D printed blades Homa is playing.

Could be. I saw the interview with the Cobra guys and they indicated they had no intention of bringing the 3DP Printed MB's to market but his MB's didn't have the mesh on the back so maybe they changed their mind

Unless something changed, I believe most of his 3D printed set was of the current CB/MB line made to his exact specs.  I think he might have a 3DP long iron in there though🤷

Homa and Woodland are playing 3dp irons. They show the lattice on some just for marketing purposes. Eventually you’ll be able to order a variety of heads with a ton of custom options, at least that is the goal.
