Modus line flex ratings

Recommended Posts

Hi, looking for advice on flexes in the modus line. I’ve played DG S300 (130g) with success for a long time but looking to move into something lighter and “smoother”. Flight and spin are good with S300 but main complaint is that they can feel laborious after a long day, especially in long irons. X100s are too much shaft for my swing.

In Modus line I’ve tried 125X which are too stiff and can’t feel any load, but have enjoyed the feel and timing of the 125S.
Trying to go a little lighter so I want to try the 115, 120, and 130 but not sure on which flex to go with.
I was thinking 115S, 130S, and 120X - does this sound right based on my experience with the 125S?

I’ve also tried $-taper 125gS+ soft stepped once and those feel pretty good as well.
Driver swing speed 115+
Thanks

Modus 115S, 120X, and DG 120 S300 are all great options to try coming from standard DG S300 and wanting to go lighter. Modus 130S is still going to be pretty stiff, much more so than DG S300. It has a very stiff mid section which will feel very different than DG.

120X, 115s all sound right

I would suggest a px lz 6.0 - ended up in these and love them. Similar feel to me but really check all of the boxes for me

I have tried normal Project X before and really disliked them, but you are not the first person that has told me to try the LZ - do you know how these are different from the normal Project X?

They are a completely different animal. The lz have a softer middle section but are still stout. They have mini steps up high in the shaft - you can feel the load, but can’t overpower them, workable and flightable. Just work for me.

If you like the profile of Dynamic Gold, and want to save a few grams of weight, yes.

Or the DG mid 115

I would say the Modus 115s. It's more like 119g. Very similar to DG120. The 120X does play softer than X100, but nothing like the DG profile. I also think the LZ plays soft. I had to go to the LZ 6.5 vs the 6.0.

Another option is the 105X. The 105/115/125 are same DG style linear profile.

You think 115S would play most similar to 125S and S300?

Modus 105/115/125 have 9 shafts in the profile, plus you can hard and soft step.  These 9 will fit most folks.  Start with the 118.5 (Modus 115S) and see if you need more or less weight.  Once you find a weight , you can mess with the flex.  Some players will overlap with one of the other two shafts profiles.  If you release the lag late the Modus 130.  If you let it go way at  top the Modus 120.   If you like the 130, you most likely not enjoy the 120.

Pro examples:  Paul Casey 120 , Gooch is 125 , Sergio was the 130 poster child.

Going off memory here, but I think the Modus 120X is actually softer than DGS

Good info here. Thank you. Since I’m liking the 125S I’ll try the 115S first.

Indeed.

If not trying to reinvent anything here than just losing a little weight.  The easiest places to start.

- DG 120

- Nippon 120X

- DG AMT S300 (ascending weight shafts)

Yes, a little weight savings, but I’m also enjoying the feel of the Modus 125S more than the DGS300. The 125S are just a couple grams lighter than S300, and I like them, but seeing if I can get a similar feel to 125S with a little more weight savings. Seems like 115S and 120X are getting the most mentions so will probably start there.

I don't know about the DG S300 but the Modus 125 and 115 both have a very similar profile but the 125 is not only heavier but also stiffer than the 115 in both the X and S flexes so possibly the 115X would play most similar to the 125S.

Well, after testing many shafts on the range I settled on $-taper 120S, $-taper 125S+, and DGX100 (130g) to take on course, and easily settled on DGX100. I loved the impact sensation of the $-taper but maybe through a combination of their lighter weight and balance point I was just not striking them as well as X100. The X100s felt great. I previously thought they were too much for me but that’s absolutely not the case. They feel very similar to S300 and have that distinct DG “heavy” hit but X100 feel maybe a bit more crisp. I’ve played a number of rounds with tour issue X100 in all irons now and dispersion and curve is tight, shots are flying high with ample spin but not ballooning, and descending steep. I’m having no issue stopping shots within a couple feet of the pitch mark. For reference my 35* 7iron is going about 179 yards.
