Since PX standard is 0.5" longer than DG, and LZ follows DG on uncut length, we should consider the OG PX 5.5 to be 113.5 grams vs LZ at 120 grams (6.5 grams difference)

Since both weight, profile and flex is "triggers" for how we load and release the shaft, it sounds like LZ 6.0 pushed you to deliver a little more speed and dedication to swing it, and then we will see improved ball speed and distance, and somtimes that difference can be huge.

PS! Modus 120 has a profile not far from LZ, with even more pronounced "load zone", so those two is often put up against eachother, where some like the mother, others like the daugher better.

I love the last line.  I will be stealing that for future use.

Yeah, not sure what it is but I just jived with the PX LZ.  The AMT felt dead to me while the LZ felt like I wanted to really swing it and go after it.  I could hit it straight and cut it (my preferred shot) with ease.  I could not cut the AMT T200 like the PX LZ.

It was a balmy 20 degrees F in Cincinnati yesterday so I wasnt spending tons of time here.  Saturday is the next demo day and I will make a point to hit a T200 with the PX LZ 6.0 to see what I am looking at.  I kept my data from the PX LZ 6.0 / 925 F Mizuno head.

The goal is a 4i utility build.

Im also very intrigued by UST Dart V 105 but I cannot locate anyone with that shaft in a fitting cart, irrespective of head.

Im happy for you that you found something you liked, and who works good. When i talked about "triggers" (both weight, profile and flex), its described in my DIY driver tune up, and the chapter VISUAL FITTING im linking directly to now.

We are actually able to SEE IT with our own eyes, long before we have a single LM number
- I used that system, and took advantage of that knowledge during fitting of all players that came to my door. This system helps us to find the players limits for total weight, (shaft wgt), so we avoid a "lucky one" where we forget that the player shal be able to swing it on 18 holes...minimum.

- One of my LPGA pros, was thrown onto sudden death, and extra holes in a tournament, and probably made it since it was still energy left on her batteries, while the player she was up against lost it due to errors, maybe due to fattigue. Thats why i think its very important that we find the upper limit, and then dial back some to make sure we dont "overdoo it".

Just found out that the titleist rep will have PX IO 6.0 at demo day.  Can you profile that with PX LZ 6.0 and PX 5.5 for me?  I would greatly appreciate it.  Earlier in thread you mentioned IO shaft. @Howard_Jones

IO is really PXI with small differences

For PXI it was easy to see that is was "The OG PX" only softer than PX when we compared them side by side on weight. PXI becomes a "heavy but soft" PX model, and i assume that would be right for IO too.

I would expect you to find IO 6.0 to be too soft, (i might be wrong) so its really the IO 6.5 115 gram you should try, not a 110 grams 6.0

So IO gets progressively softer relative to butt as you get to the club head.  Am I reading that right?  I never hit a PXI shaft.  If I have the profile right - sounds like it might not be a good match for me - but will hit anyway since they have it and Im a PX fanboy.  Sounded like only 6.0 would be available but I agree with you on the 6.5 thing.

Dont take this profiles as "exact", ive seen to many of Russ Rydens EI profiles that for some reason is different for the same shaft, depending on what model he compares it to, but we do get a idea of what we have. In the end, its "weight, feel & dispersion", and no instrument can help us with that, only point us in what direction we might look for our unicorn.

Here is how a SET of shafts looks like, that might help for your understanding, even if this is a different model.

The higher up, the stronger it is, just like we know, where the #3 is softer than the #9, so when we look at PX standard vs IO or PXI, its like the shafts is "sofstepped" but without the change of tip lenght we get when soft stepping....Its simply the same OG PX profile, only softer, so a PXI 6.5 who is 115 grams, will be softer than the OG PX 5.5 as 115 grams....thats why i expect 6.0 at 110 to be too soft.

Yup.  The true test will be this Saturday at demo day and beyond when I can hit all these combinations outdoors.  Hopefully on grass soon.

Just an awful day today. Cold. I was not feeling well either.  Didn't hit anything well.  Not much to take away really.  Best combo I hit well was Mizuno jpx hot metal pro with a modus 105 r.  Quite enjoyed the combo tbh.  Better ball speed, carry, and total of any combination I've hit in the last couple weeks.

First of foremost, I appreciate all the dialogue/conversation here in this thread. I've honestly have learned more reading this than any piece of literature within the last few years, easily! Being a PX fanboy myself, I'm trying to get myself into something... ANYTHING that has a better feel. The last set of irons I played where I was happy with the Feel/Dispersion/Weight was a set of PX Rifle Flighted, which you just can't get anymore. I have a set of original DG AMT X100 Tour Issues in a back up set that I still kinda get along with but their still something minuet that is missing since I lost those Rifle Flighted irons. Finding this thread has been really helpful. Is their anything comparable to that shaft in PX's lineup? I've really been toying with progressive "flex" just so that there's lowering of weight as the irons climb to 5 iron. (6.5 in 9i & 8i, 6.0 in 7i & 6i and 5.5 in 5i)

I wanted to add I got these PX LS in 6.0 and full transparency, I don't feel like I'm getting along with them at all. I'm a feel player and I can't feel the head anywhere in my swing.

Its always a good thing when there is discussion and back and forth on matters.  We could all learn from that.  I have hit PX IO and LZ but not LS.  IO felt odd to me just really couldnt feel the head.  LZ has better feel for me and is a shaft I could probably game.  I do enjoy my regular PX 5.5.  Ive had them for a decade.  I know them.  They know me.  I know what to expect.  Like you, 1 of my favorite shafts I ever played was old Rifle 6.0.  Found some at play it again sports haha.  I played them in my wedges too and loved them.  But as you said, finding them is akin to winning the lotto.

I will say this - at recent demo days and a range session, I was introduced to Nippon 105 and 115.  I found them crisp, responsive, lively, stable, and effortless to swing.  The 115s seems to match up better for me of the two.  Maybe give them a look - Ive never played a Nippon but was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the response LH. In the very front of my brain, I should be going to someone I trust and just do a fitting with my current heads (Ping Blueprint S), then just hold myself accountable to what the fitting says. In the back of my head I'll go "but I really like PX and the best irons I ever had were Rifle Flighted so I need to be in a PX". And as true GolfWrxers, we know that the back of the head thoughts always prevails over the nothing but smart decision. Haha! I'm sure @Howard_Jones has put up with someone like me more often than he wants to 😄

i think poor Howard has probably blocked me by now lol.

I have never been a fan of formal fittings - Im a mere mortal and my swing might behave different day to day.  Sometimes my ball flies straight - other times it cuts.  With cuts come spin, height, carry, efficiency, etc. issues.  I prefer to try stuff out myself out on the range and watch the ball.  If it performs then it performs.  I do this over a few range sessions to see if there is consistency.  Im pretty methodical about it TBH.  I do work very hard on my swing so I hope its consistent enough to get me around the course, which it usually is.  I play off a 4 cap.

Getting good starting points is always great, which is why I started this thread.  Numbers do matter and I value those inputs.  On paper, there are profiles that look like a fit that dont translate to real world and there are profiles that dont match that you just seem to jive with. I just find it way too easy to get paralysis by analysis in this game.

I have the original AMT's before they went to their White, Black, Red versions of today. I also have the SSx1. I honestly get along with things at the bottom of the bag. I feel I could put almost any shaft in my GW/PW/9iron, possibly even 8. Its when they start getting longer and I have a longer shot. I want that feel of where's the head because that that leads to feeling where's the head at, am I rotating too early, too late... These irons weren't horrible and there were days we got along well. But there's somedays these snap hooks or 30yd push rights get to be too frustrating and I know its because I can't feel the club. With Flighted irons, I use to be able to hit a 4 iron no problem. As you can see, I've just about given up on having a 5iron and put a hybrid in because I was playing at too many courses that had a 200-210 yard Par 3 and Par 3's are my worst scoring holes.

Original amts were good too. I've had people who play that shaft like the LZs. Here's the LZ 6.5 vs AMT (Original).
