Recoils on eBay

I'm considering buying these New UST RECOIL 95 F3 Regular Flex 8 Piece Iron Shaft Pack (4i - PW, GW) .355 on eBay for $200 w/free shipping because it's the only place I can find them. Price works out to $25ea. The eBay seller, Sticks-N-Stones, is advertising dozens of new shaft sets that appear to be photographed on a dining room table. Nevertheless, the seller seems to get mostly positive reviews from my search of this forum.

 

Is the price too good to be true? On the one hand, GolfWorks used to sell them for $55ea but no longer does. On the other hand, these Recoils are discontinued so perhaps the price drop reflects the current fair market value.

 

So, do you think these are legit? Would asking for and receiving pics of serial numbers help, or do numbers tend to get faked too?

Got my shafts today!  What a great deal!  Thanks to @DB Golf for the hook up!  Deal of the year!  Graphite shafts don't get much better than Recoils!  My gamers have 2x soft stepped 95 F4's.  These shafts have been recycled through at least three different iron sets, yet they solder on.  This time, I bought F3.  Getting older now.  Holding the shafts in reserve, awaiting a new project (soon to come, giving my hoing ways)!

UPDATE: My Recoils arrived today from Texas. Below are my observations, photos, and measurements. Product looks legit to me. I'm a happy customer.

  • Shipping was delayed twice, allegedly due to weather.
  • Packaging was excellent. New box. No damage. Shafts protected in individual sleeves.
  • None of the shafts was perfectly straight but was close enough.
  • The butt end of every shaft had a jagged cut edge. Photo below. Is this normal? If so, what's the point?
  • Additional photos of the factory stickers, labels, and tip ends are attached for your review. Everything looked authentic to me.
  • Measurements are in the table below. Notice the slight differences between spec. and actual weight. Not sure if these are within factory tolerances (especially the F3) but I'm not going to sweat it. I probably wouldn't be able to feel the difference anyway.
  • In case you're curious, contrary to my original post, instead of the F3 I opted for a combination of F3 and F4 to give myself a little flexibility for soft stepping and extra shafts for hybrids and wedges.

Those are legit. I’ve ordered 3 different sets of Recoils from them over the last 2 years. Never had any issues with them or the shafts.

Can get the Recoil 460 ESX shaft on Amazon for around $16/shaft for R flex. I have them in my i230's, excellent deal. The seller is legit, I got my shafts from them.

UST used to "pure" the non-oem/bulk graphite shafts they produced - Lead design engineer at the time was friends with the guy who was president of SST Puring. The pen mark is what we used to mark 12:00 on the shaft, they cut the notch, then aligned paint/graphics around that alignment.  That was back in the ProForce shaft days, before Mamiya entered the picture. It's likely (both for cost savings and shaft consistency issues are essentially non-existent now) that it's now just used for indexing paint/graphic layers.

 

EDIT: Those F3 weights are pushing it, but within tolerance for sure.

Wow—thanks! Just to clarify, you’re saying the notch cut on the butt end of these 95s is likely just for graphics alignment and not for Pure/FLO alignment?

I don't know how their current process works. In the current manufacturing mindset of minimizing costs - they likely do not pure them all off the line. It takes under a minute to find the spine of the shaft - but that minute adds up. No doubt it would automated at this point if it occured.

 

When I was there they where just starting to finalize the iRod line - which evolved into the Recoil line. Every iRod shaft I ever processed was pured - but I was in the engineering department putting together samples for field review. Given the relative lack of sucess with the iRod line - I'm guessing they were small enough quantity that any iRod shafts still out there are probably pured.
