Nickent 4DX Ironwoods

 

Nickent spent over one year to develop the next generation of state-of-the-art hybrids. Three different multi-material combinations were tried to find the best possible performance. In the end, Nickent developed the first hybrid to utilize a patented brazing technology that fuses a titanium crown with a steel body; all while making the crown the thinnest it has ever been on a golf club head.

Love mine so far, think they are some of the best hybrids on the market...I have both the 23 & 20 degree lofts. The trajectory is great...the ball gets up quickly and flattens out with a really nice boring trajectory...wind just doesn't seem to affect the shot that much. These clubs love to go straight, yet they are easy to work left and right. What makes these clubs so good is the design...the way the weight is distributed really makes for a super stable club head at impact. The clubs work great from the fairway and off the tee. Can't comment on how they play out of the rough as I haven't had any cause to hit them from the long stuff yet.

 

Another great club is the cousin to the 4DX Ironwood, and that is the 4DX Utility. I just picked up the 17* as a replacement to my 5-wood. With the shorter shaft than a standard wood, this 1 degree weaker club is comparable in distance to the 5-wood, but the control is so much better. This is a great transition club from a hybrid to a 3-wood.

I gave it a 4 out of 5...but with the proper shaft I would have liked it more. I just could not get the ball up into the air as easily as my 3dx dc hybrid, and I am just not a fan of the lower ball-flight so I am going to the 3dx rc and 3dx dc to complete my bag. The 4dx is extremely forgiving with a deep face...but most would agree that it is a little more of 'players club'.

Great hybrids. Got them in a combo set with 4DX CBs. I can really crush these hybrids straight. I'm only a year into playing, so I can't work the ball with any consistency, thus I can't say much to that point. With the stock UST SR3 stiff shaft (maybe not the best setup for me, but I'm not as knowledgeable as most on the boards here), I hit the 20* a smooth 215-230. I love using it off the tee on short par 4s. I'm looking for a good deal on a 17* or stronger for some more accurate distance off the tee. I have trouble in general hitting hybrids out of the rough, but I've caught a few good ones with these clubs. I'd say trajectory is mid-to-low. I really like the look at address; the all black crown is much easier on the eye IMO than the two tone crowns of say TM Rescues or the like. I also like the stock Nickent grips. I thought I might be looking to replace them soon after getting them, but I found I really like them.

 

I haven't hit the 3DXs so I can't compare. Only other hybrids I've hit were Maltby MHS, and these soar miles above.

 

EDIT: Got a 3DX DC IW in 2/17* with the stock SR2 stiff, and I'm absolutely crushing it. I may be switching all my hybrids to the 3DXs. Can't explain it... I just seem to have an easier time finding the sweetspot on the 3DX DCs.

Got these awhile back with 4dx cb's (nippon shafts on the irons)

Stock stiff shaft on the ironwoods. These are the easiest hybrids I've ever tried to hit, I completely love them.

When you smoke it in the sweet spot all you hear is a little click and the ball is sailing 200+ easy.

Not a very high ball flight for me, very low and piercing, but rolls forever once it touches down.

 

Someone on the thread asked how they compare to the 3dx ironwoods, I have a 3* 3dx hybrid, and could not hit it to save my life, I don't know why.

The general consensus seems to be the 3dx IW is better, but I prefer the 4dx since it is so much easier for me to hit for some reason.

I just shafted my 20* with a Grafalloy Blue shaft. Even though it is lightweight and old technology it incredibly made a difference in the club. I generate a nice mid trajectory yet with a good amount of spin. And I can barely fill the ball on the face, it's awesome. Can't go wrong, I paid a total of $50 including the shaft.
