Sonartec HB-001 Hybrids

From Sonartec, the company that legitimized the hybrid, comes the revolutionary new high-launch, low-spin HB-001.

  • First hybrid to incorporate rail technology for effortless playability from any lie.
  • Optimal launch and low spin for consistent ball flight.
  • Perimeter weighting and deep CG (center of gravity) produce high MOI (moment of inertia) for maximum forgiveness.
  • Neutral face angle promotes a square clubface at address.

This hybrid is OUTSTANDING.

PROS

Incredibly easy to hit, great looks in the bag and at address...

Excellent off the tee, off the deck or out of light to moderate rough.

Penetrating ball flight, very easy to get the ball airborne.

Ball lands soft!

Sonartec-branding on a Royal Collection hybrid!

Gets a lot of interest..."WTF is THAT?"

Can be had for $100 or less nowadays!

CONS

Looks may not be for everyone.

Sonartec out of business, so if you fall in love, you may not be able to replace it later.

Gets a lot of interest..."WTF is THAT?"

As far as "workability" I have heard good things, but I am a straight-ball hitter (or a slight fade) so I'm not a good judge of workability.

Can anyone comment as to how the HB001 stacks up against the older MD if you've played that one too? I'd love to know.

I have a 17º x-stiff stock that hit low bullets. Great for finding fairways, but not hitting greens.

I have both the HB-001 (w/onin2)and the md (w/irod) in 17 degrees.

They are very different clubs. I like the md much better. It has great ball flight/trajectory, looks solid at address, feels solid at impact.

The HB-001 is not distinctive in any way except it has a nice looking headcover.

Just purchase the HB-001 hybrid, finally a hybrid a i can hit.

has the best sound off the face over any hybrid on the market

only about $105, so definetely the best value

great simple headcover, getting a lot of comments on it

great set-up, no offset

goes high and lands soft, also goes further than any hybrid on the market

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

These clubs are amazing!

I've got a 17 and a 21 both with Alidila Hyrbid NVS 105-x shafts. The 17 great for finding the fairways of the tee and the 21 is one of my most versatile clubs in my back. I use it anywhere from 185 to 230 and love it! I replaced both my 3 and 4 irons with it so I'm able to carry 3 wedges. You can pick them up on ebay now for like 50 bucks. Bummer sonartec went out of business.

I don't have allot of comparables but of the hybrids I've tried this is by far the more controllable / playable one out there. Easy to fade when necessary and straight up the middle with just about every other swing, this club is gonna knock some strokes off my index for sure. I picked up a 21* with the stock Omni or whatever it is shaft by GD at a golf shop for $63 and it's gotta be the best value in golf. These have been discontinued so get them while you can!

just bought one...

it's one of the best hybrids i have ever tried..

the shaft it's a couple of inches longer than cally or tm

as lenght, i have bought a 21, i have not yet tried it on the course but my idea is that plays longer than a standard 3 iron.. ..

what do you think about how long it palys? i wanted something in between my 3 wood and 3 iron therefore a 19 but the 21 was a real bargain

OUTSTANDING! I have two. one is 19* the other 21*. very controllable and long for a hybrid. Played in Arizona recently and was hitting the 19* on average of 250 carry. Got rid of a 3 iron in the process with the 21*. caused a bit of a gap in yardages and also dropped my 5 wood. The increase in accuracy over the 5 wood promoted that.

As far as a previous post on the difference between this and the MD, I find it much easier to hit than the MD.

I find the top line of the Sonartec hybrids that I own, LH 17 and 21, the line I use to "line up" to my target line, is not square to the clubface. I know this sounds hard to believe but I've had it tested independently and certainly my anecdotal shot making verifies this (I pull hook these clubs more than 75% of the time and I very rarely pull hook any other club).

Lining up the actual clubface by using only the clubface is difficult so I painted a few of the grooves white to see them better for lining up.

Does anyone else have this problem?

oldt thread....i know......have a hb-001 19 and 21

21 has upgraded 904hb.....best ever hit by me....piercing flight.....seems like no spin....never slices or hooks.....

much better than md as far as my experience goes......

currently trying out a Titleist 910h w\ ilima shaft....seems longer but with more spin....higher and more lateral ball movement.....

both hb-001 and the 910h have maraging faces....

hard to compare but hb-001 seems noticeably more forgiving but lower launch than the Titleist (likely from shaft)

the Titleist might be extra special with the right shaft for a good player but for typical hacker (over 12 handi) probably better with sonartec.....

best part about sonartec is that you can take an ugly scratched up one from ebay, nuke it with spray type paint remover from autoparts store

and it looks great....don't even need a headcover.....sounds good and goes straight......

hb-001 best for me so far....but i am always flirtin with others.....

oh yea, no doubt if you can't hit a hb-001 hybrid like some of these replies on here then you should consider carrying only 6 iron as your longest hitting club

it is stupid easy to hit, play middle stance or little back and you don't have to even swing hard....

I know this is an old thread, but the "nuke it with spray type paint remover from auto parts store and it looks great" got me. Do you have pics? Sounds like a cool way to revive some of my old favorites..

Konichiwa. Couple of years since you posted but I didn't see a reply to your question. I understand commercial grade acetone does the job of cleaning painty bits from club heads. From another post on the subject "Acetone will work, but Lacquer Thinner is the FASTEST and EASIEST way to remove it". Might try it myself on my Sonartec
