I had the opportunity to try out my new DYNAPWR 2-hybrid yesterday as part of a long game fitting at my local Club Champion. 

 

As I covered in a previous post, my biggest goal going into the Wilson Golf Product Testing and Fitting Experience @ Cabot Citrus Farms was to find a solution for a gap in the top end of my bag.  Ever since I got the T-150 irons my TSi3 3-hybrid has been rendered obsolete as my T-150 4-iron produces the same ball speed and carry. To get into the weeds, I really like the ball speed gapping that Titleist started to push with the launch of the T-Series irons in 2023.  Using that philosophy, I was looking to split the difference in ball speed between my T-150 4-iron and GT3 15° fairway wood, ideally around 140-141 mph.

 

My fitting was done indoors using Trackman and Titleist ProV1 RCT golf balls. Once I was loose, my fitter had me hit both my T-150 4-iron and GT3 15° fairway wood to create a baseline. I was asked to give a grade rating (from A to F) for every swing I took. Our typical rule of thumb is anything below a C would be tossed. 

 

 

I consider this to be a very accurate representation of what I see on the course. I typically swing my GT3 15° fairway wood around 99-100 mph resulting in a ball speed of around 146-150mph. Additionally, I typically see ball speeds of of 130-133 mph with my T-150 4-iron.  The goal was to find a hybrid, driving iron, or fairway wood that would produce a ball speed directly in the middle (in this case around 138.6 mph).

 

At the end of my fitting I asked to hit my new Wilson DYNAPWR 2-hybrid with Tensei Black 95S before we made any decisions. For one, I wanted to get some data to report back to this forum with. Additionally, I wanted to see how the recommendations from my fitting with Wilson Golf stacked up to Club Champion’s brand agnostic recommendation.

 

Previously, I mentioned that the fitter asked me to give a grade rating (from A to F) for every swing I took. Anything below a C would be tossed. The below chart depicts the first five swings that I took with the Wilson DYNAPWR 2-hybrid and Tensei Black 95S.

 

 

And below is the dispersion chart by carry.

 

 

As you can see, I hit four really tight shots and one loose shot that ruined my averages. Early takeaways are that, like the DYNAPWR Carbon drivers, the DYNAPWR hybrids have a very traditional look at address. I would rank them right next to the GT2 and ZXI hybrids in term of appearance at address. Another thing I noticed was how much longer the 2-hybrid (41.50") is compared to my TSi3 3-hybrid (40.50"). Keep in mind we are comparing 3-hybrids to 2-hybrids.

 

As for performance, I would attribute part of the distance gain to the loft (17°) and part to the extra inch on the shaft length compared to all the other OEM's 3-hybrids. I would also attribute the wider dispersion to the extra inch in shaft length.  I'm sure if I shortened the shaft, the dispersion would tighten up and the distance would be similar.

 

This was only my first session on Trackman but I wanted to report back as soon as possible. More to come.

I took some pics last night of the new sticks.  I busted out the old photography gear to try and capture how clean these new clubs are.  I don't want to bombard this thread with it, so I posted a WITB thread (I don't think I have ever done that believe it or not).

Also worked on another project.  Still have to sift through them all, but I think once I get them cleaned up, one of these are getting framed and put on the wall at home.

So freaking cool wish I could have gotten picked. I want to play Cabot so bad. I will be trying out all the new Wilson stuff this April when my local Driving range puts on their demo days. I really want the driving iron, CB irons and wedges in my bag.

The swinging the Carbon driver a touch slower has been on my mind. Could just be the triple diamond head is smaller. However, I weighed each and the Carbon is 5g lighter (overall).  Could be something. Looking at the headweights, they have me in a 6 and 9 gram, when stock is 6 and 12. May have to add a little weight and see what it does.

Yep everything else is exactly the same (length, shaft, grip). I think I just want to tinker as well, haha.

Those carbon fairway woods look INCREDIBLE!

Wanted to throw up some wedge comparisons.  I don't think the wedges get enough love!   I tired to highlight the grinds, but couldn't get a consistent angle between shots.


SM9 50 F grind vs.  48*     I said in a prior post, IMO the Wilson is a better version of the Vokey in these 46-50* range with the F grind.  (ignore the higher toe ball marks, I think the standard spinner shaft isn't right for me in the 48* + you know, the whole I suck factor 😄 )





Ping Glide Pro Forged Raw 54* S grind  Vs.  Wilson 54*         I haven't loved the Ping here.  The S grind in the Ping doesn't have enough trail edge relief for me and I feel it kind of catch in the bunker and in the turf.  It's hard to tell on the Wilson because the light and the softer lines, but it has more trail edge relief.  It's a way better version of the S grind than the Ping.   Again, I'd put it right up there with the Vokey, but better feel.






Finally:   Ping Tour Gorge 58* TS vs.  Wilson 58* 10.     I have loved my Ping,  but you can see how drastic that forward bounce vs. the trailing edge is.  I haven't had as much confidence with it from the bunker.   If I had it my way, I'd like to see the Wilson with just a touch more trail relief and have the leading edge sit just a little closer to the ground -  but as is I have found it way more forgiving in the bunker and I haven't had much trouble on tight lies around the greens.  Given that I play in generally softer and fluffier conditions compared to Cabot - I think it'll be ideal.

I ended up with some extra time on my hands this weekend. A rarity but I may try to capitalize on it and hit up the closest foresight LM I can rent tonight. 
 

I want to get comparisons of the top end clubs and try to figure out which options gap the best up there. 
 

I will be starting with the Staff MB 5i to get a baseline. Then I will go into the 4i comparing the Staff CB to the P7CB and P770 4i. Then into comparing the Dynapwr 7w to the Callaway Ai Smoke TD 7w. Then I will be putting the Dynapwr Carbon 13.5° against the BRNR 13.5° off the deck and off the tee. Off the deck isn’t as important as I rarely hit a club that long off the ground. I either don’t need it or dont want to take the risk from that distance. Off the tee, I want to see how far behind driver they are. I don’t want that club to be on the heels of my big dog. 
 

Then it’s the big show. Dynapwr LS vs Qi10 Core with a surprise contender making an appearance. The Qi35 LS is out for delivery today. It was ordered before I found out about the trip to Cabot and I didn’t cancel because I wanted to see how the Dynapwr LS stacked up against TM’s latest LS driver. 
 

The only hiccup is that it won’t be apples to apples. The two TM drivers will have a Ventus Blue+ 6x tipped 1” and an AD VF 6X tipped 1”. The Wilson will have the Lin-Q Red M40X 6F5 straight in. I ordered a Diamana WB 73TX to test in the Wilson. But it arrived with a tire track over the tube and the shaft was crushed. Waiting on a replacement. 
 

Wildly different shaft profiles. I really wish I had a universal adapter setup haha. 
 

This should serve to determine what the 3w and 7w spots look like. Depending on results I may have to run through it again. But we’ll see. In regards to driver, it will be a starting point and I will likely run it again with tweaks. But I should be able to eliminate one of the TM drivers from the equation.

Yeah,  I really don't like that Ping wedge, lol. 

 

Funny enough, my buddy brought over a 50* Callaway Opus and I didn't love that either. 

 

I'd say I am pretty picky about how clubs look/set up at address and it's nice that all the Wilson stuff suits my eye so well.

Got the Qi35 LS I ordered pre-Cabot in today. Figured I’d at least compare the two LS models. Dynapwr is more rounded and shorted heel to toe. Deeper face as well. 
 

The AD VF from the TM driver was destined for the Dynapwr. So, while the two clubs play identical in length, it looks like I’ll lose about a quarter of an inch if not a little more switching it to the Wilson adapter.

It was a late evening getting numbers. The place is an hour away and by the time I was ready to book, the earliest I could do was 10:45. Ended up walking out at 1am and making sure I had my screenshots all in order before driving home.

Ok, so I will start by saying the main purpose for this session was not only to compare the new Wilson Dynapwr woods to what I already had, but to figure out what the top end of my bag looked like for gapping purposes.  

 

I have been struggling the past couple of seasons with a left miss that can be a two way miss when things are bad.  I used to hit a pretty reliable fade and just haven't been able to put in as much work into my game as I used to.  Last off season I was able to really dedicate some time to my swing.  I have been lifting religiously for two years now and I think I am faster than I have ever been.  But, I still struggle with the left miss.  I want to line up left of the target and just be able to swing away knowing the ball will only fall to the right.  It's easier to control and it's easier to plan for missing further right.  The low spin left shot is a nightmare.  

 

For the session, I was on a Foresight GC Hawk only measuring ball data.  I wanted 5 solid shots for each club/situation to compare good for good.  I got rid of bad outliers and focused on shot shape, spin, ball speed, and launch.  

 

I started with setting a baseline with my Staff MB 5i.  That would be the golden number that I wanted to gap off of.  4 different spots above the 5i that needed to be sorted out.  

 

4i: P770, P7CB, and Wilson Staff CB 

7w: Ai Smoke TD 7w (AD IZ 8X), Wilson Dynapwr Carbon (Diamana RB 83TX)

3w/mini dr: BRNR 13.5 (OG Ventus Blue 7X), Wilson Dynapwr Carbon 13.5 (Diamana RB 73TX)

Driver: TM Qi10 9* (Ventus Blue+ 6X), Qi35LS 10.5 set to 9* (AD VF 6X), Wilson Dynapwr LS 10.5 set to 9.5* (Lin-Q Red M40X 6F5)

 

All testing done with a TP5X

So, the 5i set the golden number that I needed to gap off of.  225-230y was what I was expecting.  235 wasn't shocking as I was hitting it pretty well.  I was really hoping to see a bit of a fade with it but was hitting a little push draw.  It was acceptable and set a good pace for the rest of the testing.

With that set, I then grabbed the first 4i up on the list.  The P770.  I ordered it to combo with my P7CB looking for something easier to hit at the top.  In the limited time I had with it, I felt it was too long.  Wasn't going to gap well with my 5i and that was proven correct last night.  It's just too hot.  Leaving about 30 yards between my it and my 5i.  It also wanted to turn over which I absolutely didn't want to see.  I will give it credit, it was pretty consistent with its carry.  

 

P770 4i

 

Next up was the P7CB.  I knew the P770 was going to eliminate itself before I started.  Once I realized the P770 was kind of ridiculously long, I ordered myself a CB 4i just in case.  I expected the P7CB to be a lot closer in numbers to the Staff CB or MB.  It proved to be a very worthy gapping club to he Staff MB 5i.  Around 12 yards more carry than the 5i, I was happy with the results. Definitely harder to hit than the P770 and I did have to remove a couple of outliers that were pretty poor. 

 

P7CB

 

I mean, let's be honest, there was no way I was going to play a P7CB 4i with my Wilson MB's haha.  I guess I could have but really I just wanted to compare the P7CB I had been using to the Staff CB I was going to play.  The numbers were extremely similar to the two.  I found the Staff CB to be easier to hit and I didn't have outliers to really contend with.  Plus, if you look at the dispersion, it wanted to go right.  Exactly what I want to see.  One shot where the face was closed a bit into impact.  

 

 

WINNER: Wilson Staff Model CB

 

No surprise that it would gap well with it's MB counterpart.  I found it to feel slightly less muted than the P7CB and the MB 5i I hit before it.  It feels extremely soft mind you, but just a slightly higher pitched sound at impact I think.  Nothing to be concerned about and I can easily say that I have zero intention of replacing it with a hybrid or driving iron.  

 

And, this one was less of a battle and more or less just a way to get some comparison numbers.  

Next up is the 7w.  But that will be later.  I have some running around to do today.

I’ve seen enough to commit to the irons at this point. What I’m seeing for numbers and having them perform just like Ed said they would and that has me super confident in them.
