UPDATE:

I was finally able to make it to my local PGA TOUR Superstore and rent some time on Trackman last night. My goal was to collect data comparing my Wilson DYNAPWR hybrid and Dynapower Forged irons to my gamer Titleist GT2 hybrid and T-150 irons.

 

I would have liked to also get some data with my Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon Driver and DYNAPWR Carbon 3 & 5 Fairway Woods but by this point I was starting to get fatigued. I felt that any extra data I gathered from this point on would be an inaccurate representation of the Wilson Golf products which led me to call it quits for the evening. I'm planning on renting additional hours the next two weeks to gather data on:

 

1) My Wilson DYNAPWR Carbon Driver and DYNAPWR Carbon 3 & 5 Fairway Woods vs my gamer Titleist GT3 Driver and Fairway Wood

2) Yardage chart for full, 3/4, and 1/2 swings for my 48/08, 54/08, 60/12 and 60/06 Staff Model ZM Wedges.

 

Once I do I will update this thread with a separate post for each session.  In the meantime, here is the first set of data from last night.

 

The Process

It's important to note this was done indoors using Trackman and my own Titleist ProV1 golf balls (Not RCT). Once I was loose, I hit every iron sequentially and gave a grade rating (from A to F) for every swing I took. Anything below a C would be tossed. My goal was to gather four "C or better" shots for each club.

 

First up, my gamer Titleist GT2 hybrid and T-150 irons:

This was my first time renting some time on Trackman at my local PGA TOUR Superstore. For some reason, they disabled the "Upload Report" feature.  The best work around I could think of was to take pictures on my phone and then recreate the charts on Excel. 

 

Lastly, my Wilson DYNAPWR hybrid and Dynapower Forged irons:

 

I haven't had the time yet to sit down and really sift through this data.  I'm hoping to do that tonight and compare the data with my on-course experience at Cabot Citrus Farms. Until then, feel free to fire away with questions and I'll answer them as soon as I can.

I did a little dispersion/gap testing yesterday. This is three shots each club. I think through the whole thing I took a total two mulligans. Numbers are really really good. Might have to dial back the 16.5.

 

 

I keep going back and forth with my AI Smoke TD and the Dynapower Carbon drivers. I keep seeing somewhat of a trend. The Dynapower has the freak ball in it, producing the highest peak BS and distance, but on average the Smoke is a little more consistent, regarding  BS and spin.

Not to hijack with my own experience with my new Wilson clubs (thanks to this thread) but I played my first round with my new MBs, wedges, and Staff Model ball today and am blown away by performance. Quite literally the best feeling irons I’ve ever had. Paired with a high performing but soft ball like the Staff Model - it was a dream. Had a bad day with my Ping driver so I’m tempted to say eff it and grab a Dynapower Carbon to give a run with. Unreal stuff Wilson crew. So so good.

I'm just saying...

I have used the G425 Max, LST and the 430 LST.  I like the Dynapwr LS better.

Any advantage of the LS over the Carbon for you? Other than lower spin I’m assuming. FWIW - I swing it about 112-115 and like playing a pull cut when I’m swinging well 😂

Unfortunately I didn't hit the other drivers.   I just know the LS is more fade biased and more forgiving for the high toe miss, so it was pretty ideal for me.  

A little slight pull fade is ideal for me.

Alright, so even though the weather is awful and we just got buried in snow again, I am still trying to keep the spirits high and keep working on getting the hang of the new stuff ahead of the season. 
 

I have the driver pretty well set at this point. After working out some kinks, I finally got my path a lot more neutral and am now sitting in my ideal spin window of 2300-2500. I have found that I have better success with heavier shafts. And now that I’ve gotten a lot more neutral, I have been testing a Diamana WB 73TX no tipping. It’s got a ton of feel and I’m not having to overwork to get the most out of it. 
 

The 3w is still a club I’m not all that consistent with off the deck. I’m really focusing on it for whatever reason. Even though I’ll rarely need it, I’m concerned about the low launch of the 13.5 so I’ve been just working on getting comfortable with it. 
 

I think it’s coming along very nicely. Pay no attention to the club data as it’s not measured without stickers, which I do not have. That’s some decent launch for this guy, especially with a 13.5°. 
 

 

It was a nice little fade to the right which is exactly what I want.

For the guys who got a 3 wood - did you also test the 4 wood during your fitting at all? Looking at the specs the 3 and 4 wood are identical in size and I have a tendency of hooking/pulling a 3 wood, so getting the 4 and opening it up by dropping the loft might be good. Just curious to hear if anyone had any experience testing the 4!

That's probably what I should have done. I have the same tendency.  These fairways are hot and fairly low spin. I think the 4 wood turned down to 15.5 would be really nice.

I have the 3 wood turned down to 14*. It's maybe a touch too low/low for me,  but that could also be the Denali black that's in there, or it's too light for me. Using a swing weight calculator, the driver is D8,  irons around D5 (I've since added some lead tape)  but the 3wd was D1.  I've thrown on some lead towards that back to bring it up do the D5 range - but haven't been able to get out and test.

I have the 4 wood. Ive been raving about it. Its been so good, I may need to adjust the bag. Here are some recent numbers for context. Kinda hard to post all in one, but, from top to bottom is 3 shots each with 21 rb utility, 16.5, and 13.5. 

 

the numbers from left to right are altitude, chs, bs, carry, and total.

 

 

here is smash, launch angle and peak height (same, 3 for each)

and finally spin:

 

They are no doubt a lower launching lower spin “hotter” fairway, so a 16.5 may be perfect if you maybe struggle with 15* 3 woods.

For those who attended - does anyone know what makes the LS driver head fade biased? Is it internally weighted towards the toe, flat lie angle, or open face? Teetering with the thought of buying a driver head that I can jam the weight in the toe and hit pull cuts, but if the LS head has that built in and I can control the spin profile with the front/rear weights, I might go that route instead.

They haven't mentioned anything, and I haven't read anything about internal weighting.   I think it's a combo of open face + bulge and roll,  but they classify the LS as the "don't go left" driver.

I can put a bad swing on anything -  but over 3 rounds so far, the most left I have been was the left side of the fairway.   Seems like when I make a worse swing, it's mostly just a straight pull vs. a pull hook.   But again, if I swing bad enough I can certain pull hook anything, lol.

I asked Harry this exact question, as I was thinking it was cog more toeside. But he told me not so much, but rather it just has a more aggressive bulge and roll, especially on the toe side.

All other things being equal, a draw flight spins more than a fade flight, so any attempt to bring down spin usually leads designers into decisions that favor a fade.

The driver is estimated at D8 with a swing weight calculator, but the 3wd was coming in at D1. Which confirmed my initial hunch that it was feeling a little light for me.  

 

I have noticed with a higher swing weight it really helps curb my flippy pull hook.   So figured I would add some weight and see if I can get it to perform a bit more like the driver has.

Well, I have enjoyed this thread so much, and kind of living vicariously through the experience of the testers that I bought a new bag full of Wilson stuff. Irons, driver, woods, hybrids and wedges. Even ordered some balls and gloves. Now, I'm pretty pathetic for a WRX member, but I'm pretty old (62). No way I could compare to the numbers the testers are posting as far as distances and swing speed. I had a multi disc neck fusion a few years ago and surgery to remove a cancerous tumor fairly recently, so I have gotten really short. Hoping the new gear will help recover some lost distance. Anyway, the excitement of the thread was kind of contagious - so well done to all concerned. You made it look really awesome.

So far in all my testing, the AI Smoke had a small lead on the Dynapower Carbon,  and in my last two rounds it was in the bag. Did another head to head today, and I think the Dynapower won this round, especially dispersion.  I think its earned a spot for my next round, at a minimum.

Here is the data, just hit 8 shots with each after my warmup. I later got a 170 bs and 300 carry with the dynapower, the fastest the smoke got was 168.

Sooooooo sick of Winter already.  Masters week is upon us and my desire to touch grass is at an all time high.  Still limited to simulator golf here.  Hoping that changes this weekend or next week.  

Really finding my groove with the Carbon 3+.  Getting my launch up and it's absolutely filthy long.  It's been mentioned above.  They are fast and on the lower spin side.  At least the 3w.  My 7w hasn't been terribly low.  

 

Been working on my driver swing since February and strides have been made.  Path is much much better and the numbers are starting to fall in my ideal range.  I have been using a Diamana WB 73TX the past few weeks.  It's been so consistent and stable.  Absolutely love the shaft.  Last night, I put the LinQ Red back in that Wilson fit me into.  I really like how active it feels through impact.  Like you're absolutely murdering the ball.  If I am not careful I can definitely get my launch a bit higher than ideal.  

 

Lord knows what 180ft peak height would look like in real life.  

 

After that first one, I did move the heavy weight forward and really enjoyed the feel.  It definitely drops in forgiveness.  Anything towards the heel would spin up quite a bit and I would lose it a lot further right than I would typically expect. But I suspect that could just be the shaft getting away from me a bit.  

This next one was #2 at GS Pro's version of Augusta National.  My only goal was to launch hit it hard and draw it a bit.  Closed the face just a touch at address so spin was down but not super unreasonable for the shot shape.  Then the benefit of all of that extra carry from hitting down hill ha.  

 

I don't know what to say at this point.  I f*cking love the woods.  The driver is an absolute blast to hit.  I love the feel.  The adjustability makes it extremely versatile.  Just look at the two shots from above.  It's not a hard data set, but it's indicative of what I saw through the round. But I am sick of hitting them into a screen though and really want to be able to get out on my course to see if my scores trend lower with the new gear.
